Probably can defend and rebound a few stints a game.

He doesn't do anything at an NBA level anymore. He's fucking 39 and played 200 mins last season.

Maybe he's a good locker room guy?

Russ will probably be fine against the middling and tanking teams. Maybe.

Not really Denver's big picture, yeah? Agree though that that is Russ's use case for the past few years: eat up meaningless minutes in February, hopefully find/develop better options for May.

For playoffs, Gordon is the backup 5. Their position on the Russ signing is more juice in the second unit and to lessen Murray’s burden there. Also Jokic wanted the signing and it’s not some crazy contract. If Russ is playing crunch time in the spring the Nuggets are fucked. They may be fucked anyway.

Only real piece to move is MPJ and at this point, he is what he is and won’t get much return even if they can find a trade partner.

That means Braun, Watson, and Strawther all have to take a big step forward this year. Braun looks to be on the proper trajectory. Watson is a total wildcard. Strawther hasn’t played nearly enough minutes to even give a preliminary eval.

Damn he’s 39? Time flies. Deandre Jordan still cashed a check and he played about 20 min last year so

We all know Thibs will trade for him at the deadline, and he’ll be playing 30 minutes a night for the knicks and have no business being in the game.

I should be looking at that picture and say, “hey, that’s Cam, Gilbert Johnson’s boy. I’ve known Cam since he was a kid playing at Our Lady of Sacred Heart High School.

But, I’m not because something is distracting me.

A funny thing about Cam Johnson is that his senior year in high school the neighbor kid across the street played against OLSH in the playoffs and my neighbor held Cam, who spent a couple days in the hospital earlier in the week with a mild pneumonia, to 28 points in a half.

The Warriors aren't going to be "good"--a good Warriors team with Steph Curry on it should be competing for titles, which they obviously won't be--but I think they're going to be pretty fun.

They seem to enjoy collecting all of the league's combo guards and undersized wings.

Buddy Hield has 24 points in 14 minutes.

Jerami Grant has attempted 17 threes with 6 minutes to go in the 4th quarter. He's made 8 of them in all fairness, but this does not help my case when I try to defend the current state of NBA basketball.

this guy has repeatedly said some amazingly dumb things over the years, but he gets a whole lot of this one right:

and no doubt he still says some really stupid shit in there too, but he’s saying a lot of things that i think most of us agree with.

They really have looked a lot better, small sample size notwithstanding. They were running some actions with LeBron as a screener that I can’t remember seeing before. It’s not exactly rocket surgery, but he’s so big and so smart, I can’t believe we haven’t seen it more in his career.

The Thunder are so good. Haven’t shot it well yet and have two double digit wins on the road against playoff teams. Their defense is scary good, and they still have Hartenstein coming.

Chet looks a lot more aggressive and confident in year two.  He's figured out that he can score on most anyone.  He can either shoot over them or blow by them.  He has handles like a SF.

Defensively, they're really good.  They have elite level wing defenders in Dort, Caruso, Cason Wallace, and SGA, and then have Chet as a shot blocker.  Jalen Williams is also very good on that end.  When the opposing team needs the final shot to win, their 5 on the floor will be close to impossible.

Jabari Smith over Chet may go down as an all-timer.

I think Paolo will be good enough for the Magic to not feel terrible but I think it's pretty obvious by now that HOU royally fucked up.

Edit: I'm retarded.

Did any serious basketball person think Jabari was going to be better long term?

Chet had some serious injury concerns and Jabari projected well as an NBA stretch 4.  It wasn't a terrible pick by HOU at the time - but it's going to look worse as long as Chet stays healthy and as long as Jabari doesn't pan out.

Houston took Jabari at 3.  OKC took Chet at 2.

OKC at the time said they would have taken Chet #1 over all of them.

LOL. My bad.

I was thinking they went the other way around.

There was some debate at the time, though.  Chet didn’t really pop in college because of the system but I was surprised how athletic he is and his handling.  I just thought he could shoot and block shots.

Yeah I think the debate between all three and all of the pre-draft shit that had Jabari 1 or 2 made me remember it wrong.

Or the decade of varied mental-health and alcohol and substance abuse.
