The Phoenix Suns are trading their 2031 first-rounder to the Utah Jazz for three first-round picks, sources told ESPN on Tuesday.

The trade gives the Suns the ability to triple their allotted first-round draft capital as the franchise pursues upgrades to the roster -- such as Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler. Butler, who requested a trade from the Heat earlier this month, has the Suns among his preferred trade destinations, sources said.

The Suns are acquiring the least favorable firsts in 2025 of Cleveland/Minnesota, 2027 of Cleveland/Minnesota/Utah and 2029 of Cleveland/Minnesota/Utah, sources said.

I guess every NBA player is a loser head case because I've seen most of them get into it with fans at some point.
I mean Jokic had an incident a few years back.

That was with Matt Ishbia, the Suns owner, who thought he bought a WWE franchise.

LOL forgot it was Ishbia.

That was hysterical.

Are those 3 firsts really better trade bait than a Suns 2031?  They are all just about guaranteed to be in the last 5 picks of the 1st round.  I guess if it gets rid of Bradley Beals contract it's worth it, but I don't know why Miami would want them.

It’s going to be a 3-4 teamer. The picks will go to the team who takes Beal.

I haven’t done a deep dive on that trade, but unless I’m grossly mistaken, that’s a disingenuous take. Utah has a ton of young players and they can’t fit three first round picks per year on their roster. They don’t have the developmental throughput. The 2025 Cavs pick is going to be among the worst frp clearly.  Going forward though, it’s not just the Cavs pick, it’s the worst frp among the Cavs, Jazz or Twolves picks. If the Cavs have a bad year, Utah will still use their pick.

That’s a great trade for Utah. They can’t use them all and they take a flyer on the Suns being really bad a few years down the road. Which based on their current ownership seems like a pretty good bet. It’s a good thing their owner is in the mortgage business because he’s mortgaged the hell out of their future.

You’re going to see more and more of these types of trades from the teams like SA, OKC, Utah and Brooklyn that have stockpiled so many future picks. They have to keep pushing them down the road.

I have no fucking clue what the point of this comparison is.

This. I mean, Jokic's numbers are going to look impressive when put next to literally anyone who's ever lived, but why choose MJ's weakest MVP season, when he had clearly lost a step and was primarily a mid-range jump shooter?

Sexton has been OK, but hasn't really lived up to that contract.

Agbaji is still TBD (was a 1st round pick)

Lauri has been good for them, but ultimately came down to earth this season and lost a lot of trade value. He got that huge extension, which may become a negative in the future. He's a good player, a fringe all-star, but I think he's just a good player on a bad team and won't have nearly the same impact on a team with more options.

The 3 firsts don't look to be the potential lottery tickets they did when Mitchell has the chance to leave. He signed an extension, and the other 3 guys are under contract for years. Barring a couple of major injuries, none of those picks will be in the lottery, and the swaps will be very late firsts, which won't convey. Seems like the Cavs gamble paid off with about 4/5 years of peak Mitchell at least.

I don't know if that's great value for Utah overall. I think the Knicks were offering about the same in picks, but not players. Maybe their FRPs would have been more valuable, but it's hard to say given they are 3rd in the East.  The Knicks would probably be a whole lot better with Mitchell instead of Bridges though. Not sure if they make the KAT trade too in that scenario.

Mavs are going to get the 8 seed and get healthy just in time for the playoffs and beat the Thunder, aren’t they? Worst matchup in the league for the Thunder. Those games would be must watch.

Likely and yes, that's a terrible matchup for them.  However, I don't think either team has been fully healthy when they've played this year.
