NBA 2024-25 Season Thread

Western Conference playoffs are shaping up to be interesting.

I haven't been paying attention but I didn't realize Memphis leap frogged Houston for #2.  With the new trades, I think we'll see some shifting in the standings.  Kings likely slip and don't make the playoffs/play in.  Spurs likely take their place.  Dallas still there on the cusp but I actually like their roster to make it the rest of the year.  Golden State could bump Phoenix.  (Phoenix not even making the play in is insane.)  Denver could catch Houston for #3.  I could see the Lakers slipping but they're in front of the Clipper and Minny and I don't see them making up ground.  It'll be close either way.

I still think OKC is the favorite for the finals, depending on injuries.  Chet should be back after the ASB and that's a great roster.  I liked the Caruso signing but that dude is glass.  Hurt all the time and he's out for weeks with seemingly minor injuries.  I didn't realize he's been like that his entire career.  With the rest of the teams, depending on seeding, anyone could beat anyone and I think Dallas would give OKC problems, especially with PJ Washington playing like a Hall of Famer when he plays them.

Compare that to the East where the borderline teams are basically .400 teams...

Milwaukee started:

Taurean Prince (7.5 ppg)
Chris Livingston (0.4 ppg)
AJ Green (7.9 ppg)
Andre Jackson Jr (3.9 ppg)
Ryan Rollins (4.6 ppg)

against the best team in the league.

I know they were on the back end of a back to back but they need to be fined for that shit.   Sitting half their team in their only visit to OKC is fucked for fans.

Scattershotting on the Luka Trade:

- LeBron was unaware of the trade my ass. Rich Paul engineered the whole thing, so LeBron knew. I get staying friends with AD and all that, but this is the disingenuous shit that makes people hate LeBron.

- Michael Finley allegedly hates Luka. The VP of Basketball Personnel pushed out their best player. That is absentee ownership to allow that to happen.

- Nico Harrison defended the trade by saying defense wins championship. The most cliche bullshit phrase in all of sports is Mavs fans’ only solace. Just say you didn’t want to give Luka the max.

- I don’t think there’s enough time for LeBron to “fix” Luka’s conditioning. The Lakers will just have to hope and give him the max. I wonder if they’ll give Luka a no-trade clause. It would insane if they did, but the Suns inexplicably gave Beal one.

- I’ve never cared for the Harden-Luka comparisons. Sure their games are similar, but Luka shows up in the playoffs.

Beal's NTC came in Washington when he signed his last deal.   He waived it to go to PHX but it still remains in effect until his contract is up.

Can’t expect world class athletes in top peak condition with state of the art training team to play a game, travel and play a game the following night.

That game was part of my ticket package.  I couldn't make it but I sold them for like $250/ticket.  (Seats are good.)  They sold in just a few hours.

I legitimately felt bad for whoever bought those.  That was a legitimately good game on the schedule, especially after the in season tournament and MIL then offers up a G League lineup.

[Charania] The Philadelphia 76ers are trading Caleb Martin to the Dallas Mavericks, sources tell ESPN. Dallas is sending Quentin Grimes and Philadelphia's 2025 second-round pick back to the 76ers for Martin, sources tell ESPN.
