LAL has won 11 straight against teams that are over .500. jj redick is probably the coach of the year at this point.

Yeah. Doing a great job tbh. I hate it. But I can't look away. It's the most interesting story in the NBA.

I remember one poster here saying they were good when Beal joined them. Good times, good times. I don’t know how to say it other than anytime Devin Booker is supposed to be your leader, well, you’re screwed. Chris Paul carried him to the finals and I say that as someone that does not like CP3.

I've always hated the Lakers but damn it if I'm not interested in the Luka/Bron combo.

It’s a rarity to put two of the smartest guys in the league on one team, but then also have each of them be among the best 5 or so players in the league. This stuff doesn’t happen often. It was fun watching Jordan and Pippen, but more of that came from how they could annihilate backcourts on defense almost at will. Magic and Cap for me is still my favorite combo, but I am biased on that.

adding beal to booker and durant was one of the all time stupidest moves in nba history, because there wasn’t a single person outside of the people who made the trade who thought that it was anything other than a terrible idea that was 100% doomed to fail. you took a team that needed a front court star and a few role players to become a contender, and instead you added the exact skill set that you already had too much of, for an insane price, for a player who has never been a winning player in the nba. it would be like denver signing joel embiid to a huge contract this offseason. just the most inexplicably bargain dead move possible.

I, for one, am absolutely shocked by @Aqua Buddha being a bit low on Houston's long term success. Almost (but not quite) as shocking as his bombshell that "I still think OKC is the favorite for the finals, depending on injuries" posted way back in (checks notes) February of 2025.

That said, I'd take Amen 100% over Fox and I suspect Spurs fans would also. Sengun is a conversation and I'd take Fox over Green.

Wemby not withstanding, Amen and Green, Alpi all have higher ceilings than Fox. Multiple Rockets have higher ceilings than Castle.

No one close to Wemby though.

I tuned in last night to watch the Rockets play OKC and was a bit disappointed to see everyone was hurt except Green.  "We'll see if Green can score when he's the #1 option," said to my miniature dachshund who seemed unconcerned.  (Especially with OKC being on the back end of a back to back and it being their third game in four days.)

Green then offered up....6-14 (42%) and 1-5 from 3.  If that 42% sounds familiar, it's because that's his % in every single year he's been in the league.    Green's ceiling is basically what Fox is right now.  Career 47% shooter with one season at 51%.  Yes, he's older but by his 4th year, he was at 48%.  Good three point shooter (not great) but for Green to improve to 48% would be a whole other tier.  Maybe he can do it but don't pretend his ceiling is a tier above Fox.  He's just not a good shooter.

Little Reed Sheppard finally got to play, though.  He put up some decent numbers but on defense, showed why he can't be on the court with another 6'0" PG, which is why he doesn't play.  SGA's face lit up like it was Bronny James.  51 points in 36 minutes.

Houston's problem is the best players are still B guys without any A's.  The shooting isn't great and they're undersized at some positions.  Despite the injuries, last night they had a #2 pick and two #3's and two of them aren't starters on a title team.  One barely plays.  Thompson seems like he has some upside in the future, though.

I will give them credit for all playing hard, though.  Coach seems legit.  They have enough assets that they can maybe deal for Durant or someone next season.  Package Sheppard, Smith, and some picks and the Suns may bite.

Punch to the balls after a punch to the gut.  In theory, they were still going to the playoffs with a (maybe) healthy AD.

Now they likely fall out if Phoenix gets their shit together.  (Even if the Suns do that, they're not winning the play in games.)  Kings playing well, too, and no one saw that coming.  Races seem to be tween the Lakers and Nuggets for the 2/3 and the 6-10 for the order and if they can avoid the play in.

Portland is half a game back of Phoenix right now.

Mavs could easily lose the 10 now to one of them - likely Portland, ironically.

Someone pretty good is missing the playoffs between SAC, Minny and the Clips. If I'm OKC I'm hoping that MIN takes the 7 because that's a brutal 8 seed to play. West is brutal, again.

The rockets have exactly 2 guys that you could consider undersized. They employ as much defensive length on the wings as just about anyone.

The rest of it is within a standard deviation of reality.

Jalen Green is borderline undersized and FVV and Reed Shepard are wildly undersized to the point you can't play them at the same time.  God forbid you play them at the same time with Green at the 3.

For Green to be a 6'4" (if that SG, he needs to be offensively elite.  He is not elite.  He's a PG body playing SG.

I guess Smith is tall enough but he's 6'10" and getting 6 rebounds per game so I'm not sure what the height does.

I think they should trade James Harden.

Wait - I mean - trade Jalen Green.

First one was sarcasm. They were down 25 and looking like they could not be bothered to give any effort on defense. Second one was self own.

I figured your first one was sarcasm.

Why you would count out this fucking dogshit, uninspiring, selfish, shitass Suns team is on you. Do you even watch basketball?

I'm afraid to turn it on because I'll start sort of caring about KD again and then they'll blow it in stupid fashion.

It's fucking dumb how good Durant still is at 36 or whatever. Just hit this white kid nobody for a 3 to go up 5 on a sick pass.

I think you said it in the thread last year or the year before. But man I am going to miss watching KD, Bron and Steph hoop.

Zion put up 37 tonight, but man this guy just cannot rebound for his size. Luka, supposedly overweight and out of shape, puts up 30/15/8 and he doubles up Willliamson in rebounds. How can you be 6’6” 280 and you get four rebounds? You almost have to intentionally not try at that size to be that bad at rebounding. This guy’s entire six years have been an exercise in wasted time for New Orleans.

You were already an annoying dickhead but I like how post Luka-trade you are really sending this thing into overdrive.

It was just, well, it made zero sense and for the exact reasons you mentioned. I know there was one poster here that supported it, but outside of that I believe it was roundly derided here and in the media for the most part. Beal played 53 games last year and is on pace to possibly get to 60 this year. Respectable game totals for him, but you don't trade for Beal knowing you already have two guys that can do what he does better. Since Ishbia takes advice from Isiah Thomas, I wonder how much his voice influenced that trade. Doesn't matter now I guess as the trade went about like you thought it might. I would guess Dan Gilbert is probably the person enjoying seeing Phoenix be mediocre the most.

You do realize that the Rockets lead the NBA in rebounding right?  It's a miracle they rebound at all, being so undersized...

It's a little bit of being young and idiotic mixed with hanging out with what are basically professional hoes that are like 10 years older than him that know exactly how to play him. Not absolving him of being irresponsible but theres a lot of women that use the babies as meal tickets.

When it happens once it's understandable and it's a mistake to learn from, but he's had it happen multiple times now.....it's on him at this point, he's been around long enough to know better than to fall in that trap.

I went to MSG last night to catch the Steph (and Jimmy) show. The guy is just so fun to watch even if you are rooting against him. Incredible how the three guys you named continue to thrive.

The West seeding is kind of fascinating right now - and it's looking like OKC's stranglehold on the 1 seed could prove absolutely massive. I would argue that GS and MIN are both more dangerous than Memphis or Houston - BUT it is rather unlikely that Memphis falls out of the 4 spot.

It is somewhat likely that Houston could get caught by the Warriors or Wolves - but for now - let's just imagine that 1-8 stays the way it is.

OKC would get the Clippers in round 1, then the MEM/HOU winner in round 2. Meanwhile - Denver and LA get either GS or Minny and in round 2 have to play whoever wins the opposite series. That's a HUGE fucking difference.

If I'm Denver or LA I'm praying that Houston falls out of the 5 to send GS to the opposite side of the bracket - and then, I think I might consider jockeying to avoid Minny in the 1st round (or vice-versa).

Regardless - it seems to be setting up for some absolutely money first round matchups. Imagine Lakers/Ws and Nuggets/Wolves in the FIRST ROUND.

We'll also see who stays healthy. An injury or two could turn all of this upside down.
