I don't know, SGA is having a statistical season for a guard on par with anything MJ and Kobe ever did and leads Jokic's team by literally almost 16 games in the standings.
They are 2-2 head to head. SGA has a much better supporting cast, though.

Well, let's just change it to the Most Impressive Stats (MIS) category, then.  If these two team were close, then I'd go Jokic.  Denver is a distant 3rd and literally 16 games behind OKC.

If the Suns lose tonight, it’s over right? Their next 5 games: Bucks, Celtics, Knicks, Warriors, and Thunder.

They’re currently a game back of the 10 seed.

Stick fork in the Suns- they are done.

And not just for this year - probably for the rest of the decade.

Next year they control their picks?

Nope.  It'll be 2032 before they control their first round pick.  But at least they are old, bad, and expensive in the meantime, so there's that.

Where are the Suns slated to pick in future drafts?

  • 2025: Least favorable first-round pick between Cleveland Cavaliers and Minnesota Timberwolves (projected to be No. 29); least favorable second-round pick between Denver Nuggets and Philadelphia 76ers (projected to land at No. 54)
  • 2026: Least favorable first-round pick between Phoenix, Orlando Magic, Memphis Grizzlies and Washington Wizards; least favorable second-round pick between Golden State and Denver (via Charlotte)
  • 2027: Least favorable first-round pick between Cleveland, Minnesota and Utah Jazz; no second-round pick
  • 2028: Least favorable first-round pick between Phoenix, Washington, Brooklyn Nets and Philadelphia 76ers; second-round pick via Boston Celtics (if it lands between Nos. 46-60)
  • 2029: Least favorable first-round pick between Cleveland, Minnesota and Utah; no second-round pick
  • 2030: Least favorable first-round pick between Phoenix, Washington and Memphis; no second-round pick
  • 2031: No first-round pick (traded to Utah Jazz for 2025, 2027, 2029 first-round picks); no second-round pick.

Anybody familiar with the Suns ownership/front office? Not shutting down their only trade chip, Durant, is some wild shit.

Their only chip is Booker. They’ll be lucky to get nickels on the dollar for Durant at this stage.

Even Booker would have to be thought about how much a team would really want to give up for him

I assume the Rockets would have to send FVV back to match salary on Durant plus give the Suns all their picks back. I think FVV is very limited, but this team falls apart without him.

This is awful, and the writer should be imprisoned.

how many times have you seen the graph that shows that the nuggets are the best offense in the league when jokic is on the floor and the worst offense *of all time* whenever he’s not on the floor? because it’s been posted a bunch. if your argument is going to be all about the word “valuable” then jokic wins it unanimously.

This. Jokic is unquestionably the most valuable player this season.
SGA has made the most free throws on the best team, though.

It's funny how the criteria for MVP can change year after year. Sometimes it is best stats. This year apparently it's best player on best team.

So it's basically the Heisman

The only time it has really changed is when Westbrook won while averaging a triple double on the 10th best team in the league. Otherwise it has always been the top player of a team with a top 5 record overall.

In SGA's defense, his on/off numbers  aren't THAT far removed from Jokic. Currently +12.2 to Jokic's +17.7. OKC would be a pretty meh, very limited team without him.

But the best player in the world is having his best season ever. C'mon now.

17.7 is 45% better than 12.2. That's close in your mind?

Three different players in MVP seasons.  Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryan, SGA.  Tell me which one is which.

31.5 ppg, 52% FG, 27% 3P%, 6.0 reb, 5.5 AST, 2.7 STL

28.3 pig, 46% FG, 36% 3P%, 6.3 reb, 5.4 AST, 1.8 STL

32.9 ppg, 52% FG, 37% 3P%, 5.1 reb, 6.3 AST, 1.7 STL

So, yeah, SGA is on par with Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant at this point and he'll only be 27 this summer and he has his team literally 16 games better than Jokic.  Sure, give it to Jokic.  Whatever.

Any more details yet on Memphis situation?

Seems pretty fishy...

The Ringer’s NBA guy is for some reason based in Memphis. He said on Simmons’ show today it was performance based. Memphis hasn’t been playing well for a long time/they were concerned everybody perceived them as an easy out in the playoffs.

Well, they are an easy out.  Ja Morant has also only played 44 games this season.  He's only 25 and he's hurt all the time when he's not trying to be some wanna be gangster piece of shit.

And he can’t shoot… again. 2022 could be an outlier.

What's your point again?

this is why there needs to be an MOP and an MVP as different awards. this goes for every sport. MOP goes to the guy who you think was the best player that year, while the MVP will more involve storylines, playoff seeding, etc. sometimes the same guy will win both awards, but at least we could stop arguing about defines the mvp.

Both are having great seasons.  One is 16 games ahead of the other.

It's not a Most Impressive Stats award.

i want to know what jokic’s 3P% is when you subtract his league leading number of heaves.

One is having a categorically better season at every possible measure. The other has a much better team around him.

But voters get bored of voting for the same guy, so congrats to SGA. He's not necessarily undeserving.

That's fair.

SGA is having an all time season, too.  If any talking head put him on par with Kobe or Jordan, the Internet would implode but it's accurate.

Don't recall seeing this posted here, but...

Zach Lowe Hired By The Ringer!!!

Wonderful news, I have missed having his articles to read this season. Dude is probably gonna do a bunch of pods with Simmons and friends, and he's getting his own podcast with the Ringer.

"Lowe’s podcast launches next week with episodes released every Monday and Thursday. Simmons announced that he would have Lowe a guest on his podcast on Tuesday to catch up on all things basketball and talk more about the move."
