LOL GS

Nobody wants that 6 seed I guess. Minnesota @ Memphis tomorrow will probably settle who the first play in team of.

Minny wins = very likely 49 wins with Utah and Brooklyn coming up at home. A Minnesota loss almost cements us as a play in with 48 max wins

Memphis with loss plays at Denver next night-probable loss which puts them at 48 max wins

Clippers have 2 tough games left, at Sacramento and the big one at GS.

I’m gonna predict this is how it’ll play out
1) OKC 2)HOU 3)LAL 4)DEN 5)LAC 6)MIN 7)GS 8)MEM

I think MN wins post Milwaukee debacle game vs Memphis and Denver beats grizz the next game. And then LAC win the do or die game vs GS.

If GS wins their next game at Portland & LAC wins at sac, GS beats LAC we could have a 3 way tiebreaker @49 wins decided by head to head. Min 4-3, GS 4-4, LAC 3-4

First domino falls tomorrow night

Denver and clippers get huge break with Houston probably resting their team from here on out. Maybe Houston’s starters play a quarter or two in their final game against nuggs.

GSW in the playoffs in is pretty damned funny.

They could, in theory, miss the playoffs altogether.  I still think them and Memphis win for the 7 and 8 seeds.

OKC was a real winner here.  They'll get Memphis, SAC, or Dallas in the first (likely Memphis) and then Denver or LAC in the second.  They push off the Lakers, GS, and Minny into the other bracket.  Those all were a lot more worrisome in a 7 game series.  I think the Lakers come out of that half.

You don't get that good unless you love the game. The talent can be natural. But the work ethic, conditioning, knowledge is what happens when you love the game.

There have been so many talented guys come through the NBA who did not love the game. And they are now footnotes in history.

Now he may not love the NBA life and politics,  but he absolutely loves the game.

I concede that my thoughts are only my own personal opinion. You could also be right and that’s fine.

I do not believe though that every great athlete that thoroughly excels at the sport also loves the game. We as fans use this quite a lot. Being a professional athlete is a profession. It’s a highly paid one, but a profession nonetheless. Nick Kyrgios is one example, perhaps an extreme one, of someone who has a rare skill set, but does not totally love the sport he has excelled at.

If I were to look at people who excel as accountants for example I am going to put forth that the best of those in that profession do not all love what they do. They are well compensated and money is more important than love of the work for many I would posit. I won’t go much further than that at the moment because it’s a longer discussion about human beings and how we all operate.

I think if someone in Serbia told him tomorrow that he could earn as much racing horses as his next extension will pay him (212 over 3 years I believe) he would exit stage right and head home to hangout with his family, friends and horses. The NBA makes that lifestyle possible though back home. I do think he enjoys playing basketball and I enjoy watching him. It’ll be more fun when he is wearing a Purple and Gold uniform as part of a two man game with Luka. 😊

Nuggets -144 series bet against the Clippers 10 unit play. Will cross post on the Gambloor thread.

I think Denver wins this series. This is still the Clips and they still employ Not Big Game James. Counting on him to deliver in clutch moments is humorous.

There are four teams in the west that I think potentially could fall off the deeper they go into the playoffs because of age, injury issues, depth, or being scared of the moment (Harden). The NBA playoffs can be a war of attrition, especially starting in the 2nd round where there's only one day between games

The obvious one is the Clippers, given that Kawhi could randomly get injured at any moment, and the deeper they get into the playoffs, the more likely Harden will turn into a corncobb

Next is Golden State, given that their three best players are old and have a ton of playoff mileage on their bodies

Then there's the Nuggets, primarily due to Jamal Murray. We saw last year how their offense can struggle to keep up deep in the playoffs when he's not 100% right. And more than any other "contender", they can't afford to lose any of their top five guys or the whole thing starts to fall apart

The 4th is the Lakers with 40 year old Lebron. We've seen how he's benefited physically with Luka and to a lesser extent Reaves carrying the load on offense for the first 80% of the game, but I really struggle to see him staying fresh deep into the playoffs, and their defense really falls when he's not fully energetic on that end

He was hired in May of '24  a couple of weeks after the Suns were eliminated from the playoffs. How do you get 2 seasons out of that?

I guess I didn't realize the Suns had the highest payroll in league history.  Jeez.  I don 't see where they go from here, either.  They've completely ruined Booker's career up to this point.

Kuminga with the DNP in the Cippers game.  At what point do we talk about how bad GS has been on drafting and development over the years?  They either can't play of Draymond doesn't get along with them so they ship them out.  He should take more heat for this, actually.  Had they not won the title in '22 (which was kind of a fluke), they'd have wasted the back half of Steph's career.  They had the draft picks, too.

The Clippers won some games down the stretch but with the exception of yesterday, they were beating bad teams or good teams resting people.  They lost to OKC who was without Chet and Jalen Williams.  Yes, Harden is a fat sloppy mess but he's still rarely hurt at 35 and putting up very solid numbers.  One of the better stat sheet careers in history.  He'll shit the bed in the playoffs, as always, though.

Ishbia said they won’t rebuild whatever the hell that means. Agreed they’ve ruined Booker. He’s 29 and needs to get out immediately.

They'll end up buying out Beall.

I mean I would think the highest payroll every season would quite often be the highest ever or at least top 3-5?

Its funny, that chart had me look at the generic nba stats page, and I was surprised to see Giannis was only averaging .9 3P attempts per game this year. I thought that seemed low, he used to heave up a bunch. Sure enough '22 - 3.6 per game, '23 -2.7 per, '24 - 1.7 per, '25 - .9 per. He sucks and he's not getting any better, but at least they figured out a way to get him to quit f'n launching them.

I assume that the poster you are replying to was responding to the post I left. I have had that poster on ignore since last year around this time so if it wasn’t about something I wrote then I apologize in advance.

I do not talk just to talk or send out a reply to two posters just to write something for no reason. I try to articulate my thoughts like I figure most folks would when responding to a post where my opinion differs from theirs. I stray away from posting something like “You’re a moron and wrong.” when responding to someone with a different view or thoughts.

First - he said he was leaning Dort for DPOY and does have JDub on an all-nba team as of now.

Second - who are Jokic's teammates that are even in discussion for those awards? Or any awards?

It’ll come down to if Jokic is MVP putting up 30/5/5 on a 64 win team or Shai averaging a triple double on a 50 win team

Clearly Shai has the better system/ teammates to thrive off of

From an individual talent point joker is just insane. I’d have no problem with either just because of the win total difference…best player best team.

I think jokic is more valuable as Denver becomes a 20 win team ceiling if he gets hurt. OKC still wins 40-50 games

Jok would never go 30/5/5 with OKC's roster.  He'd be 25/12/15, though.

Wasn't long ago where Jokic won a championship and everyone loved their role players of Murray/MPJ/Gordon. I like OKC's roster too but we need to see them go further than the second round of the playoffs before we start saying they are clearly better, imo.

It’s a hypothetical taking jokic out of jokic stats and putting him on the best team but not as dialed up stats like Shai.

Yea jokic with OKCs fleet would be batshit crazy. Instead he’s stuck with Russ, hobbled Murray and MPJ who both he and Jamal look like a max busts

In this scenario, we're saying you should never win MVP if you're on a good team.  If you're on a good team, of course you have a good roster.

SGA could average 50 if he wanted to.  Then again, so would Jokic.

Christian Braun is on a short-ish list for Most Improved Player. Otherwise none.

We don't need to see them do anything. Gordon missed 30 games this season, Murray was meh when he played, and they had KCP and Bruce Brown when they won the title.

SGA's cast is clearly better.

OKC was the team that lobbied for the "BEST STATS EVAR!!!" MVP when Russ won it for stat padding like a motherfucker on a 7 seed. So I think it's only fitting that their guy SGA loses it to a guy who isn't stat padding and had a much more impressive season that anything Russ has done.

Jokic is the best player in the league, and has been for about 5 years now, and should have beaten Embiid that one year, but voters are dumb. He needs this one, since Luka on the Lakers is gonna start getting all that West Coast love and he's probably going to net a few thanks to all their media hype.

The Spurs own a bunch of their picks, so it's not really all that attractive to tank. Unless they want to send him to the Spurs for their picks back, which has become a bit of a theme with some teams lately in trade speculations.
