42 minutes of actual basketball was played in the 3 hour All-Star game.

Image

I actually enjoyed the format. It was a massive improvement. The players played actual basketball and it was fun... but the show itself was fucking terrible. 80 minutes of ads. 20 minutes of unwatchable, unrelated, boring content that interrupted actual basketball. Just 42 minutes of hoops. Kevin Hart made me want to claw my ears off of my head. I understand having a little interlude to give the team that just played a break to catch their breath so they aren't at a disadvantage, but it shouldn't be any longer than a regular halftime.

The best basketball product is the opening weekend of March Madness, which also has its fair share of ads.

We need like 85% less pageantry. I mean for god's sake all of Hollywood was at 30 Rock at the same time for a 50 year anniversary and that was still noticeably less of an autofellatio exhibition in comparison to whatever the fuck was happening in San Francisco.

I would do these rules:

Opening Round

  • First to 50, but a team must also win by four or more points or have the lead at the end of 24 minutes of game time.
  • If the score is tied at the expiration of 24 minutes, the team who was first to reach 50 points wins by default.
  • Nobody on the roster can log more than three minutes of playing time until all other players have logged two minutes, 50 seconds
  • Nobody on the roster can log more than five minutes of playing time until all other players have logged more than four minutes, 50 seconds
  • The team not in possession of the ball can hockey substitute (without the need for a dead ball or a stoppage of play)
  • If a team exceeds a playing time limit, the player whose time limit was exceeded is disqualified for two minutes of game time (penalty box) and assessed a technical foul (loss of possession and the opposing team selects a player to shoot two free throws)

Draft

  • In each of two rounds of drafting, each advancing team can select one player from among the combined rosters of the teams that have been eliminated
  • If both advancing teams (Team A and Team B) select the same player (Player P) in the same round, and Team A is the team responsible for eliminating the team from which Player P is being drafted, Team A will get Player P and Team B must select another player in the current round.

Championship Round

I like these a lot.

I hope the players today aren't totally incapacitated and lame from having to play a few minutes of LA Fitness level basketball.

Jesting aside - I'm guessing the players enjoyed it and some were probably like - "oh yeah - this whole thing is more fun when we play real ball".

Also Giannis is a bitch for not playing.

80 out of 180 min for ads is absolutely crazy

I'd give Giannis a pass.  He is one of the very few that you never had to worry about playing hard in ASGs.  If he didnt play its cause he legit couldnt go.   He missed the last few games before the break so its not like its a surprise.   LBJ scratching right before the game is worse.   No chance to give someone else the opportunity to be there and live their all star dream.

I think that was intentional on Lebron's part, he didn't want to be left out and subbed for some other guy. He was in the pictures with the trophy and the team.

I dont know about that.   Guys that dont play are almost always still there and participate in everything else too.

Good point from a guy that used to do contests.   This is the reality of the situation.   If you are going to have NBA players do the contests you wont have the best dunkers and invariably there will be some that will claim the contest is boring or that they've seen better dunks/dunkers.

Then don't go and let someone take your place.

Trae was there as Giannis' replacement.   It doesnt mean Giannis cant even be in the building.

Oh okay lol. They had him listed on the roster is why I was confused and were giving him DNPs.

Carry on.

Tried watching some of the all star weekend festivities in between the 4 Nations games. It was fucking brutal. The NBA just kind of sucks overall. The fact that the NBA tries to distract you from the horrible basketball being played by shoving Kevin Hart bullshit down your throat constantly tells me this league is cooked.

Yeah that's why I saw LBJ was different.   Giannis said he couldnt go a week ago and Trae was able to go, play, and be a part of the weekend.   Previously, I've seen some scratch and day or two before and they fly in a guy for a last minute replacement but they couldnt even do that with LBJ scratching a few hrs before tip.

What a contrast between what the NHL has done and what the NBA's ASG has become.

I meant to add that to my manifesto I posted about the ASG. There are caveats. I understand that in many cases it's not the players decision as to whether to play or not. I understand that there may be some extenuating circumstances that we are not privy to. But aside from all of that, I'm very disappointed in Bron and Ant for sitting out, or not having the foresight to realize you may need to sit out and give up your spot to someone else. Bron especially has to know how that looks. It is shameful that they haven't found a way to get Domas into this game the past couple of years.

I am watching the All Star "games" for first time right now. The amount of times fucking shitty ass Bol Bol is mentioned in first 10 mins is how many times Shaq needs to be kicked in the dick

yep. on episode 3 right now.  IDK probably could do without the Serbia team story line and focus more on Canada/USA

Nah I am enjoying that storyline.

Spoiler

Funniest part so far might have been the Serbian Assistant HC suggesting to the HC that they have a nice team dinner out to break up the monotony and the HC responds by saying that if they want to break up the monotony they can go run laps in the gym.

theres no characters lol. IDK, guess id rather see more familiar players and what they do off of the court than Boban Bojandonivic. they dont even talk to Joker. plus subtitles for the 80YO coach who cant speak a lick of english? i just check out when they flash to that team. maybe itll get good for the gold medal game

that second tech was a terrible call. he screams, “call the fucking foul!” amd gesticulates all wildly and deservedly gets t’d up. then as he’s walking away he says one more word, probably “bullshit” ot something of that nature. that’s happened a million times before, and a million times the ref has let the guy say his little final word and walk away. and this isn’t draymond green here, this is austin reaves. just a dumb, overly sensitive second tech call.

also, recent photos of luka’s face look fat as shit, and there’s really no explanation for that. is he popping ambiens and then binge eating everything in his kitchen every night? he hasn’t been particularly svelte in years, but he straight up looks fat in some of these recent lakers photos i’m seeing.

The 2nd half for Charlotte was screening and getting the Lakers to switch Luka on the ball and have that guy blow by Luka like a middle schooler.

He was 1 for 9 from three.  Everyone has bad shooting nights, but him in that offense is having one guy in the mud killing the flow and bogging everyone down. You cannot build the offense around that style like in Dallas when you already have LeBron James on your team.

And you can't do it anyway when you are blatantly out of shape.  His minutes need to be very limited right now.  His birthday is next week, I propose Ozempic and a Peloton.

Not even steroids. Its pain meds
An assistant mixed up toradol and tramadol
Both are pain meds but one was recently banned.
