What would it take for Joker to seriously enter GOAT conversations? The dude owns some crazy records already. I don't think the average fan entertains the notion as a possibility because he's not "as fun" (read: athletically high flying) to watch as Kareem, Jordan, Kobe, or LeBron in their primes. However, he's insanely skilled in most facets of the game - especially for a center. And seemingly, when current NBA players are asked about the best player in the league, most say it's Joker.

SGA also leads the league in drives so yeah, he's going to get fouled more.

I don't get the hate for any of these guys.  People bitch and moan about teams taking too many three's and here comes SGA with a three level, nuanced game similar to Kobe and people bitch.  BS was going through how he's having one of the best statistical seasons ever for a guard and they have a 12 game lead on Jokic's team.

I was surprised how good Hartenstein was.  Legit great at everything except shooting, which is fine.  Perfect complement to Chet.

The Giddey/Caruso trade seems to have worked for everyone.  Giddey is doing OK in Chicago where he's more on ball.  Caruso is a great defender and serviceable shooter.  Gets injured a lot, though.  Both him and Hartenstein have been great chemistry fits, too,

On the SGA being a "free throw merchant," can you tell me any great players that don't do that?  It's been a part of the game for as long as I can remember.  He just seems better at it because of his herky jerky style.

His pace, length, and length make him so hard to guard. Leads the league in drives, naturally you are going to get fouled a lot. They still shoot the 3rd least amount of free throws a game and foul the second most. All these people talking about free throw merchants conveniently don’t get that. There was a great article on the Athletic about his offseason regimen: practices against 8 dudes every morning at 6 or 5 if the gym at his high school is being used and he goes to the YMCA. Always has 2-4 people swarming at him. Has a 6’8” guy to work on his post moves. Goes to the gym before lunch. Back to the gym for shooting from 2-5. That’s insane work. Makes sense how he splits doubles so well, though. Journals every drill, piece of advice, and results and then reads that at night.

The much more egregious (no) call yesterday was not calling Chet for his 6th when he popped Russ in the face on a drive with 9 minutes to go.  That was an immediate 5 point swing (OKC immediately scored a fast break dunk by Chet, no less, and then Malone was called for a tech for protesting the no call) in what was a 5 point game at the time.

I don't have high hopes for tonight's game.  Gordon injured his calf again yesterday and is out tonight.  Not having your best defender available against OKC is a bad combo.

Probably 4 rings minimum. Or something like 3 rings and 6 MVPs.

He's nowhere close yet imo.

I mean - the only guys who I think have a legit argument are MJ, Bron, KAJ and maybe Russell (but his era was so different that it's impossible to debate imo). 6 titles 5 MVPs, 4 titles 4 MVPs, 6 titles 6 MVPs in that order. And all three were completely transformational on both ends of the floor (at least in their prime). Jokic isn't that but he's probably as good as any of them on O.

Nuggets/Thunder playing again tonight on NBA TV btw. Just tipped.

(Like - not a replay - playing game 4)

Denver fighting but OKC is just so damn good. Jok and SGA have exchanged a couple blows - Jokic especially playing his fucking ass off.

73-67 Thunder at half.

Bro maybe he's just injured. How many conspiracies do we need about a 2-4 week groin injury for a 40 year old.

Denver with a great 3Q. Anyone not watching this one is missing out. 101-99 Nugs headed to the 4th.

Also - the idea that OKC just hums along without SGA and Denver falls apart without Jokic is ridiculous. Nuggets double teamed SGA the entire 3rd quarter and kept hanging around and then finally made a little mini-run to take the lead back when SGA went to the bench for a couple mins.

OKC's offense is TOTALLY different without him on the floor - and all of the advanced plus/minus shit bears that out. Dunks and Threes EPM (which is maybe my favorite all-encompassing advanced metric right now) has SGA and Jokic virtually tied right now on the season with a big gap between them and the rest of the top 5.

Nuggets can't miss from 3. Up 14 now - 125-111.

Game is too big for Isaiah Joe right now. He's fucking killing OKC.

Hartenstein with more FGA than SGA .

Yeah well they aren't doubling Hartenstein.

I'll buy OKC in the Finals when I see it. The idea that no one can take them to 6 or 7 games is silly. They don't have a ton of "fuck you" energy - and J Dub going out at half messed them up on O.

But some of this is just the current NBA and the inherent variance in how many 3s everyone takes. Denver had a bunch of role guys that just couldn't miss from 3 there for a bit.

Like - let me pose this Q to the board - going into the playoffs in the Western Conference - would you rather have SGA or Ant? Everything else on your team equal.

SGA is far more consistent.

Yeah on offense I guess. In a 7 game series you don't have to be super consistent though.

I'd like to see OKC make the Finals I'm just curious to see how it plays out. There are some fucking dogs lurking out there.

Five more years at his current statistical pace and two more titles?  He’d probably end up with 5 MVPs (Russell, Jordan; only behind Kareem) in that scenario.

Hard to see him as the GOAT because of his personality/team market. But at his current pace he may be considered the best offensive player ever, and I think he’s already in the conversation as the best offensive big man ever.

Good to know the Mavs can still beat the sorry Spurs, even running the rec league line-up out there.

Well we aren't to win games, so, thanks?

It's funny for the dumpster-fire Suns, though.

Right now?  SGA.  Still think Ant has the potential for a higher ceiling (which is insane).

It's not like either one is great on D, though. Offense is the only way to compare the two.

Yeah I'm going to disagree. I think Ant is a much better man defender and plays with more intensity and passion which is what you need in the playoffs.

Advanced stats don't like Ant just like they didn't like Kobe because they are messy, megalomaniac players.

SGA is a pretty-stats player and while he is fantastic all-around I still want to see him prove it when shit bogs down and gets messy and the regular season advanced stuff goes out the window. He hasn't done that yet in his career.

I think he can do it this year and he has a phenomenal supporting cast. Excited to watch it play out.

Hate having the Kroenke’s fuck us Nuggs fans over with Altitude not being picked up by any major provider. Went to watch the game on NBA TV and was blacked out. That many minutes for Jokic is not gonna bode well for playoffs. We need AG healthy and Strawther back.

Excited for Wednesday night. We have the Timberwolves and Ant man in town for a late 8PM local tip. Will be at it and paying for it the next day.

Think tonight’s Nuggets game was on basic cable in Denver metro (Channel 2?) but the Altitude bit for the last several years has been some prime bullshit

Damn - you missed a fun one. Y'all looked great and OKC looked slightly vulnerable but DEN hit a bunch of 3s late that won't always go in and J Will left at half which maybe made the 2nd half adjustments messy (for OKC).

Still - overall - not feeling like OKC can't be beat in the playoffs.

I'll probably be watching that MIN tilt Wednesday.

*Also Chet wasn't good. If he can find some form and be a real 2nd option at times in the playoffs it could push OKC over the edge.

Dammit! If I had known that I would have switched to antenna. 9News has like 4 different stations, of which only 9 comes across on YTV and didn’t see it there. Forget which ones are on KTDV 20 or whatever. I usually just stream on sportsurge.

I’d also say his play style is not very exciting and his personality is kind of meh.

I think to be considered the GOAT you need to draw eyeballs and be a competitive leader. He is funny but he doesn’t seem to do either of those things.

nobody has come close to Jordan and Kobe. LeBron’s longevity is pretty crazy though. Fucking KD could’ve been all time but he just got stuck on the wrong teams too much.

Was at the game and yeah, Chet wasn't very good.  Jalen Williams also went out hurt.  Denver just played really well and shot lights out, especially in the second half.  I don't know the splits by half but Denver shot 60% for the game and 56% from three.  Even Westbrook shot it well.  No one is going to beat anyone when they shoot like that.  Can Denver do that 4 times over 7 games?  Prolly not.

A cool moment, though, right before tip.  Westbrook started and ran down towards the baseline for the tip.  He went over and hugged Clay Bennett (principal owner) and his wife.

One way or another, he'll retire if nothing else but a ceremonial last contract.

LOLWUT?

You might not like his personality but he's the best player in the world and he's an incredibly competitive leader.  He dragged Serbia to the bronze medal and almost upset the US in the Olympics.

I love watching him play.  He's one of a kind and we'll never see anyone like him when he's gone.

I go to a lot of Thunder games and Holmgren is the one player that consistently drives me crazy. He looked sick last night. (as in 'ill')

I'd agree with both of those.  Should be noted that this was his first back to back since the injury.

It's like he really hasn't gotten into a rhythm since he's come back, which is understandable.  He was having a pretty decent offensively before that.  What is frustrating to me is he's good enough to score on most anyone but doesn't seem to realize it.  He can shoot over smaller players and blow by bigger ones.  Just seems like of passive.
