What's the addage Sark used for building a program?

First you lose big, then you lose small.

Then you start to win small, then win big.

This young team is right now hoping to take the next step to lose small. Still a ways to go to get to winning small.

I'm watching Atlanta because 1) I'm a sicko and 2) I'm interested in where that pick is going to convey... and if game 1 is any indication, they are going to have a tough time staying out of the lottery. They play terrible defense. Brooklyn is the biggest tanker in the league with few playmakers, and they are getting one wide open three after another.

This is great. I don't get bally anymore because they seem to be in a feud with every cable provider on earth and generally out of money.

He had another tweet with some details.  Most are on FanDuel which has acquired Bally.

Wemby and threes, a match made in hell.

My biggest criticism would be this--he settles for 3s much too often.

I get it. They are easy. No need to bang inside, and nobody is going to block that shot, either.

Even Giannis is excessively and extensively guilty of this. It's a win for the other team whenever Giannis or Wemby jack up a 3, even if they make it ... cuz making it means they'll just chuck up three or four more and likely brick those and not be in a position to rebound or defend the ensuing break.

Vic had a bad night. He looked very out of sorts. They aren’t winning many games when he plays like that.

Castle needs starters minutes now.  He’s so impactful on defense and he can get to rim and the line.

i thought Dallas was really physical. They pushed the spurs around. And they got way too many open looks. They have really put a nice roster around Doncic after fucking around for the first few years of his career. But I can’t stand how the style of play has evolved league wide into teams playing 5 out and jacking 40 threes a game. It’s just not fun to watch.

I hate watching it too. Just too many 3s. Somewhere around 30-35 is probably good. More than that just sucks to watch as a product. Boston shot 60 in their first game. 60 fucking 3 pointers. That's not what basketball was meant to be.

There's a short, modest obit in the paper this morning for Alfred "Al" Sturchio.  If you're old enough to remember games at Hemisfair, you'll remember his band playing live from the stands.  RIP Al.

Those games were just the best, and Al Sturchio and the Sound of the Spurs were in the middle of it. The game ops and production were so bush league and organic, and always puro San Antonio. The interplay between the band and the baseline bums made the whole atmosphere. How could you not fall in love when Al and the band started cranking out Volver, and they shined a spotlight on some drunk vato slow dancing with a lone star as if the beer was his dancing partner.

Nobody owned “charge” on a trumpet like Al. Somewhere in heaven he and the boys are cranking out his ode to Larry Kenon to the tune of Bad Leroy Brown. “Bad, bad Mr. K. Baddest man in the NBA. Badder than old Swen Nater. Meaner than a swap alligator.”

RIP Al. Thanks for the memories.

Castle closing out the game was great to see. It took Pop all of one game (and maybe a Tre Jones injury) to figure out that he’s one of their five best players. He is getting the rookie treatment from the refs but still shining. He’s going to be so good.

Also, as much I dislike having to root for Chris Paul, at least I don’t have to pretend Dillon Brooks isn’t the biggest piece of shit in the league. And fwiw, CP’s play toward the end of the game maybe was the difference between winning and losing last night.

I think he may kill Sochan.

Which should be good for Jeremy.

I wish Sochan's finishing would improve but God damn he's been a monster on the glass in preseason and to start the year.

KJ figuratively and literally looks like a different player. It keeps taking me a few seconds to realize that it's him after he makes a play.

This team should make the play-in barring crazy injuries. Castle was a massive add and Barnes and CP help us hide our lack of depth a bit better.
