San Antonio Spurs 2024-25 - Alien: Resurrection

Vic was plus 43 last night and had really good chemistry with CP3, who was +37. That dickhead had 19, 10 and 7, with 1 TO while shooting 8-13 from the field and 3-7 from distance. Not bad for a 39 year old on the second night of a back to back.

Also kudos to Utah for finally picking a lane and leaning all the way into the tank. They've been in purgatory since the Mitchell and Gobert trades, and then they saw that there was a white guy at the top of the 2025 draft and just said fuck it all let's see if we can go 0-82. And double kudos to Lauri Markkannan for cashing in that paycheck while probably missing 70 games this year with injuries such as dandruff and gingivitis. Best gig, ever.

Through 5 we're 29th in offense and 11th in defense. I think we could be a very legit team on D.

The O needs help. I thought we looked better with Sochan on the bench in the 2H but he also had a few really nice plays. I don't know what the fuck he did with his shot but it looks worse from 3.

The Branham shit is embarassing at this point and a stain on this team. Pop should be ashamed with his resume for continuing to play that asshole.

Keldon is still unreliable from 3.

I'm hoping that they figure some shit out and develop more chemistry on O as the season progresses. We really need Vassell back to keep teams honest. A lineup of CP, Wemby, Sochan, DV and whoever you want for the 5th should be better than anything we've rolled out so far.

I like Mamu. Collins seems like he's even worse somehow.

Idk. Still early. I said that last night would tell us a lot and I think it did - insofar as we aren't a bottom-dweller and dont appear to be taking our pride lightly or interested in tanking again.

All of that said - something I really like is our energy, grit, and mentality. We play like shit for stretches at a time but it never feels like these guys don't care or don't want it (or get down when adversity pops up).

Not loving the volume of 3's from Vic to start this season. Teams want him shooting from out there and he seems to be misunderstanding all of the open looks as some sort of invitation. Dude needs more discipline when it comes to shot selection.

Should've gone to the game tonight, was debating a quick day trip from Austin up until yesterday. They played hard and the defense showed. Vic with a few highlights tonight and Keldon with his best game of the season. Through 6 games this might be Sochan's team though.

Best win of the early season, with the caveat that it was a rough back to back for the wolves. Still, this team continues to play hard on defense and if they take care of the ball like they did last night, they are going to be in a lot of games.

Fucking Chris Paul man. 15 and 13 with 1 turnover. I’m not sure how he’s doing it at his age but he was fantastic.

And Sochan is evolving into a very unique piece as a chaos agent, instigator, garbage man, defender, and occasional playmaker. The archetype for him was always Draymond with some bounce. When the spurs start winning, he’s going to be one of the most reviled players in the league.

His advanced numbers aren't great but he stuffs the stat sheet and it feels like there are multiple individual plays each game that move the needle more than their immediate worth. He makes a lot of chicken salad out there and is a tone and culture setter.

His 3 ball and FT have gone in the wrong direction this season but maybe they bounce back. Can't complain about 17.3/8.5 (2.7 offensive - I mean God damn)/3.3 and he's our minutes leader so far.

If he cleans up some of his efficiency stuff he could be a really nice player.

So.....how's Pop?

I don't know but our head assistant still treated Branham as our 8th man which was concerning. (I didn't catch who was acting last game - Brett Brown?)

Definitely not Brett. Mitch Johnson.

What a rough 2nd half watch. Sometimes Wemby looks like he's just playing rec-league hero ball throwing up 3s like a YMCA Steph Curry. The silver lining for me is the built in excuse that we were missing our 2nd best player of 2024 (and obvs 2nd best player on the team as well).

I mean yes, but is it that bad?

I'm not quite ready to fully commit the tank 7 games into the season, but this really sucks for Sochan. He's been fantastic so far. Disregarding the scoring and rebounding, he's been a monster perimeter defender.

If we're looking for silver linings beyond ping pong ball accumulation... the injury is to his non-shooting hand so maybe it forces him to actually fix his shot and not have that left hand interfere so much with his release. That would be the best thing to ever happen to his game.

He’s had some really, really bad games for the Spurs, but he’s kinda signing the masterpiece tonight with his own feces. Just an incredibly awful performance.

Speaking of fecal masterpieces, Victor is once again painting his Mona Lisa from the three point line. So blessed to witness.

If the election didn’t already kill Pop, watching this game probably will.

That last three by Bricktor… that’s the one when you’re playing pickup ball and you decide you never want to be on the same team as the dude that shoots that. Like why did I even bother running down the court?
