I mean yes, but is it that bad?

He's projected to be out for 6 weeks.

Yes - this will cost us a lot of games. Even if it's just something like 3 or 4 wins he could have helped move the needle for that's a lot with how tight the West will be.

No doubt. What I’m saying is that it seems like the team doesn’t want to win very much if they continue to play Collins and Branham a significant amount and Sochan’s injury will assist with the goal if losing more than they win. Especially if they continue to press Victor to shoot more threes.

VICTOR: STOP CHUCKING 3s!!! YOU ARE NOT STEPH CURRY!

I love Wemby, but 45 percent of his shots this season have been from deep. He's converting 22.6 percent of those, versus 56 percent from inside the arc. Even if he made 35 percent of his 3s--which he might by season's end--he's rewarding the defense.

Seriously, I dunno how the coaches can handle it. It's probably what put Pop in the hospital.

He has great form on his shot and hits FTs at a high rate. If he is open for 3 he needs to fire without hesitation. It's unfortunately how you have to play in this 3 point chucking league. We don't have good enough shooting to make people pay for collapsing on him in the paint and it fucking suuuuuucks. He also isn't quite up to the right speed on anticipating where double teams are coming from and making the right play.

Pulling up from 30 feet needs to be cut out those just aren't good shots right now. Or just random dribble pull up with like 18 seconds left on the shot clock.....just no. If he is on fire or it's the end of the shot clock fine. But he needs to cut out those "heat check" 3 point shots and save them for when he's actually..... heated up.

All this. I have zero problem with him taking threes. He needs to take them. It's the shot selection that is so disgusting. He needs to get his looks in the rhythm of the game. Maybe don't launch 30 footers with hand in your face with 20 seconds on the clock after zero passes? If he makes a couple in the flow of the offense and then wants to take a heat check, sure. But otherwise work for a better shot.

Overall, though, he's been very rough. I wonder about his conditioning. I get that he needed rest after the Olympics, but I didn't think it would be this bad. He gets winded really quickly and I think it also contributes to his shot selection. It's a lot easier to jack up a three from the logo and only have to run halfway back down the court than go fight for position against a turd like Dillon Brooks on the block. But fuck, how out of shape could a 20 year old with zero body fat get in a few weeks? He looked like a monster in the Olympics.

I'll continue to offer the best solution on this. I feel like anywhere from 30-40 3s in a game is fine strategy. Pick a number somewhere in there. Once you hit your allotment, the 3pt line goes away. You have to strategize on when you shoot your 3s and who is shooting them. In the final 5 minutes of the game and overtime, the 3pt line is unlimited so the end can still be exciting.

Another game I was in the building for, another win! GSG

Bring a sleeping bag and find yourself a nice cozy spot in Frost Bank Center.

We'll see how that goes, but you may need to go on a couple road trips.

Tell the wife/GF/whomever that you are on a mission from God.

2025 NBA champs.

We appreciate it.

Next game I have tickets for is Friday, so we'll see if my streak continues then.

And not to look ahead but speaking of Frost Bank Center, "The NBA Cup In-Season Tournament Now Sponsored by Emirates®" begins here Friday at home against the "Unsponsored NBA Cup" defending champ Lakers.

Sadly, Bronny probably won't be there. So check those secondary markets because there will be a flood of tickets from disappointed fans who were hoping to catch him in action.

What won't be disappointing is Wemby. He's heating up.

On to the most important part. Here's the Spurs court this year:

Then it's to Dallas, who put the St. Louis Arch on their floor in a nice tribute to the old St. Louis Hawks (I know. It's their spirograph bridge. Whatever.)

I'm certainly not happy he had a stroke and wish it didn't happen this way but if we're all being honest it was time (or is time) for him to hang it up. He deserved to ride it out to the end and like you said - it appears he may have done just that.

It's a brutal job - let alone for a dude on the wrong side of 70 - and there are a ton of younger guys with really sharp minds for the game and more energy.

I still think his input on the roster is valuable. I haven't loved all of our FO moves over the past few seasons but on the level we've done a good job rebuilding and have cobbled a competitive little roster together. Let him keep his office and set him up with a cushy FO job and let him do as much (or as little) as he wants.

Completely disagree. Pop IS Spurs culture. He's critical to bridging the past and the future.

Why? The past of basketball and pops philosophies don't translate to the game in 2024. Assign him to some executive role within the franchise but it 100% should have been replaced sooner than now due to a stroke.

He's the reason Wemby was excited we got the first pick. Absolutely need him back. He should retire soon, but not too soon.

Absolutely this. We were drafting Wemby no matter what but he could very easily have said, "Yeah, I'm not feeling it with the Spurs" and stayed in Europe a few years while the draft rights ran out or force the Spurs into making a trade.

Pop definitely has earned the chance to go out on his terms. I wouldn't be surprised if he comes back and finishes this season and then calls it quits, though.

Damn. I was just thinking earlier today before the news came out that he probably had a stroke. Thankfully it was mild. But yeah, coaching at 75+ is something.

If it is truly "mild" even that can vary widely by person though. But hopefully he can actually finish the season and maybe just take games off or something while turning things over to Mitch. Seems like he'd be great as the heir to it. Young, connects well with Wemby by all accounts, and able to continue the Spurs culture for a long time.

Pop

That seems like an insane bet to make. I'm not sure I'd put money down that he even comes back this season. I could see him picking a game once he feels well enough to "retire" after.

Also - we don't seem to have skipped a beat from a coaching perspective on the bench. Obviously that could go downhill at any given moment but how many well-coached games would he have to watch from home before he starts thinking "you know what - they look like they're going to be fine without me"?

He's 75 and had a stroke. Unless it's on the extremely minor end then that's a big deal.

It is a big deal, and he needs to adjust his life accordingly. His body just gave him a warning shot across his bow and for himself he needs to stop.

What's best for the Spurs is secondary at this point.
