San Antonio Spurs 2024-25 - Alien: Resurrection

Castle is great. He'll get better at those free throws. We really need Sochan back ASAP. I know there's probably still like 5 weeks until that happens, but we really miss his defense.

Someone other than Wemby and Castle need to get going. We have a shot, but we need stops on the defensive end and some more shots to fall.

Also, fuck the Lakers. There are way too many Lakers fans in the building tonight.

That foul on Paul was terrible. But they made a lot of mistakes regardless that cost them the game. Lots of teachable moments.

Overall though, they are playing winning basketball. I don’t know where the record ends up, but they are on the right track.

And I’ve been saying it since before the Spurs even picked him, but Castle was the best player in the draft. He’s such a winner.

Yeah, watching that dude play at Uconn, he just seemed like one of those naturals. If I had the #1 pick in last years draft  I would have traded down and taken Castle. Or said fuck it and taken him #1 if I couldnt work a trade where I felt confident I could scoop him up a few picks later.

It's both Wemby and just the NBA, but 13 threes and no free throw attempts from a center is something.

He's still too skinny but at the same time he needs to be careful with his frame. I think he needs another 20 pounds and some more conditioning/grown man strength. AD was so much more assertive tonight.

Not much you can do without three of your best players and especially on a tough back to back. Next to zero chance of winning that game before it even tipped.

I’m so sick and tired of watching Keldon play basketball. He’s a one-trick pony, and that trick does not help the team.

I didn’t watch any of last night but he actually seems to be finishing better overall. When he gets into the paint I’m legitimately thinking something good may actually happen vs oh shit here we go again.

Not last night. Dallas baited him into repeatedly driving into the paint, and because he can’t do anything else, it resulted in a contested or blocked stupid shot. Since he left his rainbow shot in Oz this season, he has no redeeming basketball qualities left other than “me force my way to hoop, me shoot, me hope it goes in while yelling.” I remember him as having some defensive qualities, but those memories have faded with time.

Castle is going to be harassing SGA for about the next decade. Pretty awesome to see him step up to the challenge in his 10th or whatever game of his career. My expectations are completely out of wack for him.

He's shooting poorly enough and turning it over often enough to keep my expectations somewhat in check.

He's already so fucking good on D, though. And hasn't shown anything to think his decision-making and shotmaking won't improve.

On the game as a whole (I don't have a ton - I was multitasking the first half and some of the 3Q):

- Collins was quietly kind of good. The clutch 3 obviously but he had 12/7 plus 3 dimes a swipe and a block. Turned it over once. Only had one foul. Shot 5/7.

which brings me to my next point...

- If BASSEY can take some pressure off of him and get a backup 5 competition going I think situationally they could both give us good mins going forward.

-Barnes and CP dragged us to this W. But they can't do this all season. We need to both get healthy and get better around them.

- Champagnie shouldn't be starting for a playoff team but he's played his way into 7-8 years in the league I think. He's long and plays hard and can shoot - and doesn't make terrible decisions.

I'm done with going on harangs about Branham for now. There's no point in getting worked up about it. Apparently the staff has felt over the past two years that he unimpeachably deserves 15 minutes a game despite every metric out there saying he's one of the worst 5 players in the league. I appreciate that he can at least hit an open 3 now. Maybe Treway being back will eat into his minutes but I am expecting to see him get 12 minutes rain or shine and will try and limit the bitching about it in every game thread.

7-8. Not bad.

Hell of a game from KJ tonight. The crowd in the arena was pretty dead until KJ broke his defender's ankles and slammed it down.

Like Kermit, I also feel conflicted cheering for Chris Paul, but he's won me over. Great game from him tonight.

Bassey showed up big tonight too. I was surprised by how well he played.

Castle is special, he just needs to continue to learn and gain experience... and cut down on those turnovers.

GSG!

I went into the fourth quarter fully expecting the team to collapse and the lead to evaporate. I know it's a cliche, but OKC didn't lose they just ran out of time.

This is on coach more than Castle, but I really wish he hadn't pushed the action so much when the lead had grown to like 21. Run out the clock, slow the pace of the game. Crisp passes, draw fouls, take only high percentage open looks.

We're very lucky OKC missed so many layups and wide open shots down the stretch. I really love Castle.

Seriously, this.

Both teams were feverishly trying to give the game away.

I'll take the ones we can get.
