San Antonio Spurs 2024-25 - Alien: Resurrection

I went last night for the first time this year. It was ugly other than their third quarter run. Credit Minnesota’s defense I guess, but there were a ton of careless turnovers and lots of unforced errors.

That’s the worst I’ve ever seen Castle play. Really rough night for the rookie. I like him better with the starters than coming off the bench.

Weird statline of the night: Naz Reid 1-10, 3 points but +26. Also, it would absolutely drive me crazy if Gobert played for the Spurs. I can’t imagine how frustrating it must be to watch him botch easy play after easy play, and then all of a sudden he starts making them.

We probably should've won by 30 with the 8 bunnies we missed in the 2nd half. If Goberts not dunking it(which he missed about 3 of those last night) its a wild experience. then suddenly the wolves start making their lay ups while going at Wemby.  weird

when i saw Keldon Johnson was out, I knew our chances were good. DIdnt think anyone coming off the spurs  bench going 7-11 with 6 3 pointers

Meanwhile, rival executives are monitoring the Fox situation closely and league sources say one team in particular — the San Antonio Spurs — is positioning itself to pursue the Houston native as a possible partner for Victor Wembanyama, should Fox become available. Barring a significant Kings turnaround, others are surely close behind.

Not sure I want that.

I'd rather have the picks

Nah, our picks are about to start sucking, and Fox is a tremendous player. I don’t think we would do better than him in a draft, unless we decide to tank out the year (those days are finally over). All of our other picks this year probably won’5 convey in a way we want. If Sacramento wants to trade him, we should be all over that shit. I love Castle, but I’d help him pack. It’s going to be expensive, but great players always are.

Some Wemby stats I saw in Reddit:

12th 30/10 game ever. (8 of which were by Hakeem or the Admiral)

First time anyone's ever had 30/10 with a three pointer.

First time anyone's ever blocked 10 shots and hit 4 threes in the same game.

Just the 3rd game ever with 10 blocks and 2 threes (Victor has one of the other two)

12th game ever with 8 blocks and 2 threes (Victor has 5 of the 12)

They didn’t win game 15 last year until March 17. They’ve had a home heavy schedule so far so maybe it’s a little inflated but they haven’t played many east teams either. But this is more fun than those ridiculous losing streaks they had last year.

Re: Fox. I absolutely love him. He would be amazing next to Vic. They have the assets to make it happen, but I’d be more concerned with his contract and the fact that he’s repped by Klutch. Rich Paul isn’t going to give out a discount so he can play for a winner. And if the spurs deplete the war chest for him, it completely guts their long term plans for sustainability. So unless Sacramento wants to give him away for peanuts and/or he wants to sign for less than market value, I don’t see it happening.

Thoughts:

- Wemby is a freak. The sophomore jump is a real thing and while he hasn't made a dramatic one yet his ppg is up 3.3 and he's taken a BIG TS% jump going from .565 to .606. He's going to keep getting better and (knock on wood) it seems like his body is holding up okay so far.

- The guys that we've put around him are kind of retarded sometimes. I'm glad we aren't paying KJ or DV any more than we are. I can live with those 2 being under $50M combined for the time being but not sure either of them is the future.

- Steph Castle, meanwhile, is a fucking pimp. Can't believe Mitch didn't put him in at all in the 4th. Bad lineup management.

- CP has been unbelievably icy in the 4Q this season. Not sure it's sustainable but it's been fun.

We'll be okay. That was a shitty loss but they'll learn from it. The Champagne turnovers were bad but he had some big 3s for us to keep us in it. This was a team loss full-stop and everyone should have some stuff on film to clean up - including Mitch (who I think has been doing a very nice job the past couple weeks).

Julien Cham whatever the fuck your stupid ass name is… you stupid fucking idiot. I hope they make your dumbass ride the clown car all the way to New York.

That being said, they’re not even in the game without your shooting. Idiot.

Blonde ref can get it but she shouldn't be allowed within 100 yards of officiating a D1 or NBA game ever again.

Shit I don't even want her with the whistle in the W.

Dude, I’ve never seen them rescind a tech before. Ever. And they rescinded two! What in the absolute fuck was that officiating tonight? I’m so pissed right now. At Julien, at Mitch, at Julien. How in the fuck did they lose that game in the way that they lost it??? Where the fuck was the veteran leadership on that one??? What a shitty fucking loss.

I totally agree we wouldn't have been in the game towards the end without Julian's clutch threes, but two turnovers in a row at the end were just dumb.

CP3 has continued to impress, and Castle was a stud tonight. Sucks to lose that one because Wemby has a great game and they had every opportunity to pull out the win.

It'd really be nice if they could play a game where they don't go cold in the 2nd or 3rd, forcing them to have to come back from a 15+ point deficit.

Let's get Jimmy Butler in here and he can start choking bitches out in the locker room while CP kicks them in the balls.

We take too many 3s.

At least - we take too many bad 3s.

I was beside myself when he turned the ball over and then it hit me. I care again. I care because i know we are a good team now that can and should win these games. Made me feel a little better. I'm with you, Mitch needed to have Castle in the game. But Julian was feeling it and had just made like 4 3's in a row.

Every time I see "Mitch" in a post, I think you guys are talking to/about me. It's taking some getting used to.

Fun game last night. Definitely a tough loss with mostly self-inflicted wounds at crunch time, but you have to give credit to Maxey and Yabusele. Those two were great for Philly. I'm glad we only see Maxey twice a year. He's murdered us every time we've played them. Lots of missed wide open threes all game, but that 18-2 3rd quarter run was a killer. Vic is getting much better at punishing those small ball lineups setting up shop at the nail, but he's still got a ways to go.

Castle was so good last night. He deserved 4th quarter minutes. The pairing with he and Sochan is definitely problematic from a spacing perspective, but it would be nice to have their two best defenders on the court together.

How they fare from here to the end of January is going to tell us about the rest of the season, if they are a legitimate play-in/playoff team. Lots of road games and lots of games against good teams. Brooklyn is the only outright tanker of the bunch.
