San Antonio Spurs 2024-25 - Taking it in the pooper for Cooper

Start Wemby, Castle and Sochan. Those are your untouchables. That's your three. Those are your fucking gangsters capable of developing and winning playoff games.

Strip everything else. Burn it the fuck down. Get a real coach. Put some fucking dogs around those guys. I want Keldon gone. I want DV gone.

Then go win a bunch.

I have little faith that they'll do that - but -  that's what they need to do. Imo.

Came to post that.

In a season where Pop has a stroke, trade for Fox, Wemby out with a deep vein thrombosis, and a likely 2nd straight Spurs ROY winner ...

next on the Bingo card for this year was "25-year-old overlooked Georgian-American power forward sets an all-time scoring record with Flavor Flav in the post-game interview hyping him to the crowd."

Yeah, of course.

3rd straight win. When was the last time that happened?

2008?

Keldon in a 40 point win managed to shoot 2/10 in 19 mins.

Cooper Flag is gonna look good in silver and black

I know we're not going to get him but how amazing would that be.  Beat the odds for another generational talent?  Such a huge drop-off after the first five or so in this draft.  Who are we realistically hoping to add to the nucleus of wemby/fox/castle/sochan?

First time I got to see the Spurs. Of course, against my Celtics.

No aggie bs. Cool crowd. Lots of Celtics fans.

You all have a good young team, but the Celtics relaxed tonight. Celtics passing is smooth like butter.

Fun time with a few good friends.

Giannis is more than likely going to ask out in the off-season.

The Spurs could offer Kelvin, Vassell and Barnes with 3-4 1st round picks (bucks would have to send back Connaughton to make money work).

Fox / Giannis / Wemby would probably be the greatest big 3 ever.

I'm not going to be too upset if we jump Portland (which I don't think we will).

It would mean we got close to .500 on the season and at some point you need to start winning basketball games.

I think this has been a nice stretch for Mitch, too - to maybe get a better handle on some shit in low-leverage games and not have as many moving parts with Wemby and Fox out. I have my doubts that he's the guy long term but if they hire him going into next season I guess we'll see what the fuck happens.

I'd like if they threw CP another year or two as long as he's cool with coming off the bench going forward.

The schedule coming up is absolutely atrocious, with a chance to out-tank Portland and lose one to Toronto. Let’s see if some of these G-League guys get a call up, especially with CP3 getting his bonus.

So...... what about this next year?

PG - Fox

SG - Castle

SF - Kevin Durant

PF - Sochan

C - Wemby

Bench:  Vassell, Champagnie, Rookie, Rookie, UFA, UFA, UFA

Trade:  KD (51m in) for Barnes, Keldon, Branham & Wesley + draft filler (1st and a swap probably)  (19m + 17.5m + 5m + 4.7m = 46.2m + filler if needed)

The only way this works is if KD was adamant about going to the Spurs and wouldn't play ball unless he gets there..... which is what guys who are under contract do these days.

One of the UFAs would have to be a shooter, because we're a shitty shooting team.  Another would be a rotational interior defender/tough guy muscle.  That would allow the Spurs to be aggressive and go BPA in the draft.  If Castle is as good as I think he can be and brings the defense along with Sochan and Wemby, can that squad challenge in the West?  I do admit the KD trade isn't likely, but there is a path.

If we draft 8 or 9, who do you take or hope for?  Knueppel?  Egor?  Fears?  Tre?

Not a lot of good shooters are being mocked around that slot. Kneuppel is a good shooter, but there's no way he's actually taller than 6'5" and spurs don't need another SG. I'd rather pick a big that can rebound and play D, like Sorber. Who knows. The spurs never pick the guys I want them to. Sometimes that turns out well and sometimes that turns out poorly. If Tre falls that far, we would be blessed by the incompetence of NBA GMs.
