Three-time Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis is ending his retirement from acting to star in his son’s directorial debut.

The 67-year-old British actor quit acting after starring in Paul Thomas Anderson’s 2017 film Phantom Thread, and has largely stayed out of public life since. But he is now set to star in a film titled Anemone, directed by his son Ronan Day-Lewis, US independent production company Focus Features confirmed on Tuesday.

The film will feature actors including Sean Bean, Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley and Safia Oakley-Green, and is currently shooting in Manchester.

Was Phantom Thread good? Gangs of New York is my favorite of his (with a strong runner up nod to Last of the Mohicans), and I loved There Will Be Blood, but the subject matter of PM looks kinda boring.

PT, not PM

I have downloaded it multiple times to watch on a flight and just can't seem to ever even start it.  I love me some DDL but there is nothing interesting to me about that film.

I think his most amazing acting was in My Left Foot. Maybe it’s not as impressive if you haven’t interacted with people with athetoid CP, but he absolutely nails it

DDL supposedly had the crew carry him around between takes during My Left Foot because he wouldn't stop pretending he didn't have the disease and they were getting really, really annoyed with him. Nobody was aware of his commitment to method acting just yet.

Not that he is the same caliber, but IIRC, Shia LaBeouf refused to shower during the filming of Fury so that he could look and feel the part.  Not everyone was thrilled with it.   Sacha Baron Cohen also does method acting, because he feels like he cannot enter and exit characters like more seasoned actors.

I heard he also took his son to a train station and abandoned him for "There Will Be Blood". Doing this movie to make up for it.
