Lifelong Astros diehard here, but I might have to find a new team with a less annoying fanbase.

I'd have been much more pissed at keeping Tucker and letting him walk for nothing this offseason than actually getting value for him now.

Sometimes it’s nice to remember that fan is short for fanatic….so same shit everywhere.

I'm glad we have an owner who won't sign players to long term deals. They rarely work out.

Plenty work out.  You just have to realize you're paying for production on the front end.  Instead Crane just skips the productive years and pays for the 3 shitty years at the end.

red sox reporter making the case to go all in and trade for framber ….

https://nesn.com/2024/12/red-sox-should-absolutely-make-this-call-to-astros-in-pitching-frenzy/

His Game 5 gem put Houston up 3-2 in the series when he tossed eight brilliant innings of one-run ball at Fenway Park. The Astros proceeded to eliminate Boston in six games.

0% chance the opening day OF is McCormick/Meyers/Dubon.  Anyone who listens to anything Dana Brown says in an interview is a fool.  Dude has proven that nothing he says should be taken seriously.

You think Framber is getting traded?
If you did an OF there it makes sense to call goldy and see if he wants to come home on a 1 year deal. Or a 1/1 with some vesting stuff. Smith to 3rd in 26 or 27 and Paredes to 1st. Personally Walker makes the most sense but if they wanted to sign Santander and then trade Framber for an above average OF and a prospect or 2 and did the Goldy deal I would be absolutely ecstatic.

This is a trade that was a necessity. We are having to clean up the mess that Bagwell and Reggie Jackson made. The Red Sox had to do the same thing with Mookie. Tucker was not signing in Houston, glad he got moved to the NL. Also calling Tucker a Hall of Famer is really over valuing him as a player.

He’s like a bunch of guys at 27- if they have a really great prime (which he was on his way to last year) and then a decent tail where they are productive until 35 or 36 he can get in. Always bet against HoF guy but if the standard is 70 or so WAR to get in that means he needs 45 or 50 over the balance of his career- a couple 7 or 8 war seasons in his 28 and 29 year seasons and then all of a sudden the math looks like 5 war from 30-34 and play until he’s 37 or 38, which is doable. Bet against, but bet against every 27 year old not named Mike Trout or Griffey junior or the like.

The Stros info I get is hit or miss lately but the pivot internally is trying to convince Arenado to waive his NTC and one of Santander or Kepler

Arenado I mentioned in October and was my prediction on this pod for “1 move that’s a little surprising”. Santander and Walker would be my dream moves.

If you replace Bregman/ Tucker and Singelton with Paredes/ Santander and Arenado.

Your WAR is 9.1 to 8.1 but you are getting more power

If St. Louis pays half of his salary (either cash or taking back bad contracts for us) that’s a net push money wise. And more reasonable time commitments (not too much- Bregman and too little- Tucker) in line with the rest of the overall roster.

If you trade for Arenado, how does the 50 million in deferred money work? Is that part of the trade? His contract for the next 3 years is already steep, but that deferred money makes it untouchable.

I would imagine him waving his NTC will have a restructure aspect attached to it. I could see Montero being part of the deal as part of the money offset as well. Hearing his name was surprising to me because of the deferred money as well

Supercontracts are dumb. Signing supercontracts is dumb. Their 'hit rate' is insanely low. Supercontracts remind me so much of NFL GMs drafting guys bc they looked amazing with their shirt off at the combine and lifted 90 billion deadthrusts instead of drafting good football players - you've seen the mistake play out over and over and over again for decades now, but no one seems to learn from it and in fact end up supporting it angrily..(?!)

We're paying Grienkes so yes. But everything is negotiable

I still contend it should try to be Press to STL for Arenado and then work out the money.

I am not sure if Framber is getting traded, I’d probably put the odds at about 20%.  But regardless, there are too many OF better than Dubon, both internally and externally.  They’re not running those 3 guys out as their opening day OF unless there’s been an absolute epidemic of injuries.
