The problem with that is that Paredes projects to have more value playing his home games in Houston than anywhere else in the league. I don't think the Astros can possibly win that trade.

I'm warming to the idea of Altuve in LF, as crazy as it seems on the surface. It does not make the outfield any worse defensively, but sliding Paredes to 2nd and putting Bregman back at 3rd significantly improves the infield defense. And when your two best pitchers are known for groundballs, maybe that's more important at this point.

I'm fairly certain we will never see Altuve playing a position in the OF.

If lmj has to shut it down due to arm issues this season, what should the Astros do?

File the insurance claim.

I think there's too much smoke to the signing Bregman fire. Now it also may be a bait and switch and Paredes plays there.

In the 4 years that Ryan Pressly was the closer for Houston, his postseason numbers looked like this

34 IP
3 ER
0.79 ERA
0.794 WHIP
14 saves
0 blown saves

Saying Goodbye Will Smith GIF by MOODMAN

Didn’t he blow a save in game 2 of the Detroit series before Hader came in and lost it?  Or did he just give up insurance runs to make it the game out of reach before Hader did the same?

He did....but he wasn't the "closer".

They are using Helobious logic so it fits their narrative.

They are only using 2020-2023 seasons

The Chicago Cubs will pay $8.5 million of Ryan Pressly’s $14 million contract

What does that do to the current salary/luxury cap numbers? Guessing this was more of a move to get us under that number moreso than a play to bring Bregman back

We were already like 2-6M under. Now we are 10-14 or something like that under. If Alex is coming back at 26 that would mean we have to trade Montero (11.5) and Caratini or something like that.
And before anyone tells me that nobody wants Montero the answer to that is no fucking shit- but you could trade him to a team like the Marlins who have to spend some money to get to the salary floor necessary to collect their revenue sharing and attach 2 or 3 interesting prospects with it to make it worth their while. Also- since any team buying prospects from us by taking on Montero  will likely suck they could trot him out there for 3 months- hope he pitches well and then becomes a guy they could move at the trade deadline.
with how volatile relievers are stranger things have happened.

Na they already said they would be willing to go over.

Sure. And I think they should be willing to go up to 40M over (the money hit gets a little worse moving from tier 1 to tier 2 but you don’t get hit with any more competitive disadvantages like draft pick or the like) because it should be so easy to duck back under next year when you lose  57M in salary between Framber, Caratini, Jose Abreu and Montero.

If you signed Bregman you would not have a single offensive guy leave in FA after the 25 season, almost no big arb raises exist, and you’d still have plenty of guys I project to be between average and awesome as starters for 26.

Signing Bregman would mean this team either needs a Chas bounce back or one of Melton or Dezenzo to be a good bat and we are awesome offensively. Thats entirely plausible. Maybe we can get through the season without 3 Tommy John’s. That would be helpful.

What if two of the TJs are each of LMJ's arms?

Never is a long time. I’d say regardless of Bregman, it’s not unlikely for him to play a good bit of LF before his career is done. His defense is only going to get worse, and that’s the easiest place to hide him (other than DH, but there’s already a guy there in basically the same boat).
