I think health is so important. It’s been ignored as this Astros team has been ~90 win team the last couple years just how snakebit we have been from a health perspective. Fuck gamblers fallacy- we gonna be healthy now because we haven’t been the last two years. Science!

Have we been snakebit any worse than an average team?

I’m going to try to apply this logic with my insurance company - “sure my wife rear-ended someone each of the last two years, so you should drop my 2025 rates because because there’s no way it’ll happen again.”

Exactly.

Javier, Garcia, LMJ, Urquidy, France, JV all missed basically the majority of at least one year of not 2 in the last 2 years. I would say having 6 of the top 10 guys on your organization chart as of 2023 have season/career ending injuries go down is much worse than average injury luck but maybe not.
it’s worse than we’ve ever had happen in a 2 year period that I’ve been following the Astros for, I think.

That’s fair.

i believe the dodgers could say the same on arms .
but maybe the two of us are in our own class

They for sure are.  I’d argue harder hit than us even. Nobody pays attention because both teams chug along and make the playoffs. We aren’t uniquely hard hit but way worse than average is suspect.

What if I told you that that injuries to (1) a guy who has thrown more than 128 innings exactly once in his 10-year career and (2) a guy north of 40 years old should have been considered neither surprising nor particularly “unlucky”?

You seem like a real good time. It doesn’t change the fact that they still were injured and would be top of the rotation if they were healthy. Verlander also pitched 175 and 162 innings the previous two years

I don’t consider the LmJ injury unlucky to your point. JV could go either way as absent TJ which he was fully and CY young caliber recovered from he’d always been a workhorse. Call it 4.5 out of 6 that wouldn’t be considered to be expected.

It's spring, and I expect 250 innings from McCullers, but only because he is starting the season too late to reach 300.

You may say he has thrown only 718 in 10 yrs/7 seasons.

Shut up.  Spring!

cam smith is him

he needs to be out in RF on opening day

He’s played exclusively 3rd base in his college and brief minor league career except for 3 games in LF in the Cape Cod league.

With the focus on shorter max effort outings, it should be assumed that all pitchers are TJs waiting to happen.  We may have had an abnormal number but I'm not so sure it's that egregious.  It feels like our guys are having more "setbacks" and not recovering as quickly as the norm but I haven't tried to find any data.  That may point to our medical staff being subpar.

Yordan's glass knees at such a young age make me sad and will likely keep him from being an all-time great.  We should expect him to miss some time every year.

Tucker's non-fractured shin last year was a freak thing combined with typical Astros lying about severity/timeline.

I wouldn't say we've been snake bit necessarily.  Older guys also tend to get hurt more.

Decided to go to Opening Day this year. Skipped the last 3 or 4 cause you can go to game 2 for way cheaper, but fuck it.

Went and saw what face was for a crawford box seat....$304 lmao....yeah ok

Episode 93 of breathing orange fire is out. First half is talking about what’s the point of a farm system and how the Astros have done the last 5 years as they’ve been ranked so poorly. Last half is Astros actual prospects.

Plus everyone is essentially working on an extra season beyond whatever their service time is based on the number of playoff games over the past decade.

Those aren’t exactly it but the front has Stros on it in big font with some rainbow accents

The hats and undershirts (if they make those available for purchase) are going to big sellers though
