Jose Altuve will play "most of his games" in left field this season, Joe Espada said today. He left the door open for things to change — injuries, good performances in the minor leagues — but made it clear that Altuve will open the season as the Astros' primary left fielder.

daikin roof stays closed, he won't have many shadow to sun fly balls
Hopefully they can fit it in the carry on for 81 away games

Thats also not the reason he is missing these. He sucks as an OF is why he is missing these. Roof open/closed isn't gonna matter

Cam Smith continues to mash everything in sight during the Grapefruit League 🔥

The @astros' No. 1 prospect ups his spring slash line to .419/.500/.871 with his fourth homer of camp:

RiP ....

Luis Garcia will not throw a scheduled live BP today because his elbow is sore, Joe Espada said. Garcia’s throwing will be stopped while he is evaluated, a setback in his attempt to return from Tommy John surgery.

Luis Garcia faced hitters in October and, almost all winter, was considered ahead of Lance McCullers Jr. in their rehab schedules. It's unclear how things have derailed. The Astros reiterated this week they will not make any member of their medical staff available for interviews

The most incompetent medical staff in all of professional sports.

What could Cam possibly do better to make the case? Dude is gonna be in the Rookie of the Year running at this point, assuming he gets a shot at it.

And I’ll be livid if he gets called up a month in to the season, wins the award, and we miss out on the draft pick

Didn't the Pirates do that with Skenes last year?

Seems like teams are overthinking this kind of stuff. Just let them play, and let their performance speak for them. There's room for Cam to start on this team, and they could use someone new to hype them up. Maybe him, Yainer and Pena can be start of the new wave of all stars for the next 10 years.

Likely because he's out of shape, but the Astros medical team has to be one of the worst in baseball, so I am sure that doesn't help.

If you are worried about service time, fucking sign him to a long term deal today that buys out the 1st two years of FA along with his 6 years of control. Brown was with the Braves when they signed Acuna to a 8-$100M deal. Something similar could be done today, but the Acuna deal was done after his 1st two seasons with the Braves, so it was even better. If you want to wait a season, that is fine as well, but you should be looking to have Smith until he's 30.
