Logan VanWey this spring:

10 G | 0.71 ERA | 12.2 IP | 8 H | 1 ER | 12 K

first guy out of the BP 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Just a note....not on the 40 man roster....and neither is Okert

Also we are strapped at position players Diaz, Caratini, Walker, Altuve, Dubon, Pena, Paredes, Chas, Yordan, Meyers Dezenzo, Cam Smith, Singleton, Gamel, Rodgers is 15.   Yes there is fat to trim, but will they actually do it or they just going to send Cam and Dezenzo to AAA

If you are worried about service time, fucking sign him to a long term deal today that buys out the 1st two years of FA along with his 6 years of control. Brown was with the Braves when they signed Acuna to a 8-$100M deal. Something similar could be done today, but the Acuna deal was done after his 1st two seasons with the Braves, so it was even better. If you want to wait a season, that is fine as well, but you should be looking to have Smith until he's 30.

Less risky to sign a 34 yo.  They only want 3 years. /Crane

Per beat writers: Walker is not going to travel home with the team on Sunday, but will stay in Florida taking AB's in minor-league games Saturday through Tuesday before returning to Houston. Should be available on Opening Day.

We’re making some tough decisions. We want to put our best team forward. We’re having these conversations about Cam Smith,” general manager Dana Brown told Sports Talk 790. “We think he’s really good and we think he has really good upside. We have to make a decision: are we going to start him in the major leagues, or is he going to the minor leagues? … Make no mistake, I’m not afraid to put this guy in the big leagues. We’re having these discussions right now. This guy is really good.

Astros GM Dana Brown said on Astroline he does not think relievers Kaleb Ort (oblique) or Forrest Whitley (knee) will be on the opening day roster but believes both could return "inside the month of April."

Hey y'all, we're getting a ton of posts for opening day and weekend. There's way more supply than demand, so please use the designated post under the feature tab. You can find posts there for each home stand as the season progresses.

Man/ I feel exactly the opposite here.
if you are worried about: Altuve, Yordan, Paredes, Walker, Pena or Diaz you are doing it wrong. None of their spring matters, those guys are all at worst above average and at best awesome. That leaves 3 spots we weren’t sure about. Dezenzo and Smith look great, and Meyers even at his worst with the bat is about a league average regular when looking at his glove.
the bullpen has looked awesome, the young guys look interesting- I mean- this feels like 21 to me where we’ve cycled through some important guys leaving and we have the next wave coming up and taking us back to upper 90’s and World Series contention in wins.
Most exciting spring training in years to me.

Dana said the same shit 2 weeks ago verbatim so at least he is consistent.

Still fully expect him to run his mouth....Cam to continue to produce....and then end up at AAA with Dana crawfishing the fuck out of the media session after that.

If smith becomes a star and Dezenzo is good the window is wide open until the end of yordans contract.

If Hunter Pence becomes a star and Brett Wallace is good the window is wide open until the end of Lance’s contract.

(and yeah, I know my years are all fucked up here)

Not even close. This is a good roster. That never was. The reason those guys open the window is because they are additive to a quality core.

I'm an optimist by nature but even being objective I'm closer to Wulaw's take here. This spring training has been about what should have been expected. I don't see any reason to downgrade expectations based on it. Of course mine were about 90 wins and a playoff berth, nothing like upper 90s wins and a potential 1 seed or anything like that.

If things break right on the cam and Dezenzo (and maybe melton) front end pitching stays healthy this team could win high 90’s, low 100’s. Of things play out normal in health on the mound and guys play to their average in the field it’s 90 and a playoff berth. Of the arms get decimated for a 3rd year in a row and the rookies don’t break out and Yordan gets hurt, well, that won’t be a fun watch for the year.

I've said we'll win the division somewhere between solidly and in a runaway every year since 2017.  This year fangraphs has it a 3-way tossup which feels about right to me.

Altuve and Walker are solidly in the decline phase actuarially, so there's some worry there.  There's always injury worry with Yordan.

Paredes's low exit velo scares me but maybe he can continue to make it work with an obscene amount of fly balls just down the lf line.  The profile reminds me some of Bregman - he would probably also benefit if the 2019 bouncy balls came back but it's not happening.  Bregman walked roughly as much as he struck out until last year.  Paredes walks a good deal but not as much as he Ks.

Pena is a good defensive SS but his bat fits with the bottom 3 not the top 5.

And our bottom 3 look like they're going to be bad again.  We appear set to roll with Dubon, McCormick, and Meyers playing most days vs last year when it was 2 of that 3 with Abreu/Singleton.  Probably about a push.  I'd feel better if you could guarantee me 2022-2023 Chas.  And maybe Dezenzo and/or Smith end up starting.  That would help too.

Dah. That’s literally basically shitting on everything in the organization. I see you hacked Andrews phone and listened to the pod we recorded today.
