He's not technically lying.  Of course the contract he would have signed would have had to have been for 400 or 500 million.  Tucker is and has been out of the Astros' price range unfortunately.  That's just reality.

Why did we trade for Kikuchi at the trade deadline last year if we are trading Tucker and not signing Bregman? Why would you give up prospects if you plan to tear it down? Those guys we gave up would be nice to have now. Brown has no process or long term plan or process in place clearly. He is so clearly outclassed and outwitted by the other GMs in the league. Second rate owner and GM.

We overpay for a series of relievers and old guys?

This trade is fine. It's even better because of the Macklemore/Astros twitter meltdown.

Enjoy the shitty team we will be putting out and end of playoff runs. You need to expect more out of your teams

If they knew this was the last season with Tuck/Breg, then going all-in with the Kikuchi trade actually makes more sense… and this is coming from someone who absolutely hated that deal when it happened.

Find another team to root for.

Lighten up, Francis. This move doesn't mean they are tearing it down. It means they are trying to keep the window open and also have good players in the future.  We need one more good bat and we'll be fine.

This is why I am against Bregman, you can get two good bats for his projected price point.

Sad to see Tuck go, but I understand. Build for the future and hope your talent pipeline continues to pull diamonds out of the rough. The Astros farm system has gotten little respect from the people who evaluate Mlb prospects, despite producing a lot of good pitchers.

The NL next year is going to be an interesting MVP race with Ohtani, Soto and Tucker over there.

As a Cubs fan, I've got mixed feelings about this trade.  On one hand, it's great to get a player who immediately becomes the best player on the team (assuming the Cubs move Bellinger as rumored).  And Chicago needed lefty power if they do, in fact, trade Bellinger.

OTOH, unless they can extend Tucker, it's probably a one-year rental.  I also think Cam Smith is going to be a good player at some point.  But to get someone like Tucker, it was going to take a prospect like Smith.

Don't be shocked if Paredes, a dead pull hitter, goes for 30+ dingers with that short leftfield distance in Minute Maid.

I'd say this one is TBD

Do you mean before or after the good bat we just traded for a bag of marbles? Because we needed more than one before this bullshit

A bag of marbles might have been more productive than Kyle Tucker was during the last two postseasons.

I think you're right -- just meant that Bellinger was probably the only other player on the roster even potentially in that conversation.

To think we had Tucker's replacement lined up only for our shitty manager at the time to talk the owner out of the solid acquisition of Contreras for Urquidy. Then we scrambled and gave up W. Abreu for a player that Dusty refused to play. This is why you don't let fucking managers and owners dictate personnel moves.

Tucker in Copperstown without an Astro hat pisses me off.

Sell the team if you can’t keep one home grown player like Tucker. We will be chasing the Mariners for a wild card spot.

Owner just confirmed we are a second class team. Will be fine when Yordan is wearing Yankee pin stripes.

Was talking about Crane today with a friend and he mentioned how we have one of the poor billionaire owners.

He's so poor he can't even defer a few hundred million dollars for 20-30 years.

Losing the #2 and  #5 draft picks from the 2015 draft in the matter of days definitely marks a turning point…

But miss the days when we had 2 top 5 first round picks (but not the days that it took to “earn” those picks).

I also miss the days when we had two picks in the first 5 rounds…

Lifelong Astros diehard here, but I might have to find a new team with a less annoying fanbase.

I'd have been much more pissed at keeping Tucker and letting him walk for nothing this offseason than actually getting value for him now.

People really don't understand that we were never going to sign Kyle Tucker.
