Why wouldn't Tennessee factor into the 2 losses 4 way tie? What would the tie breakers be?

What @Hermanator said about Tennessee instead of aggy???

Wow, 3 big sec losses today -- all 3 teams now have 3 losses for the season:

  • ole miss
  • bama
  • aggy

Ole Miss and Alabama both losing today was a massive boon to A&M. Otherwise ags would have been eliminated with the loss to Auburn tonight. Now their path is still the same as before even.

So we’re now in the playoff for sure, right?

I hate the idea of losing to A&M, but yeah I think Texas is in. If Georgia wins the SEC, A&M has 4 losses. Then it is us and Tennessee for a 2nd SEC spot, likely both get in for 3.

Not quite the same as before. I think they have to win the SEC to get in now. If they beat us and lose to Georgia, I find it hard to believe they get in

Sankey has repeatedly emphasized that the losers of conference title games should not be punished. We'll have to see.

But they aren’t being punished for the 4th loss. They’re being punished for the 3rd loss. If they beat us next week and the season stopped, they still wouldn’t get in.

But of course you are right, who knows what the committee will actually do

Exactly - all that quote means is if both teams are slotted into the playoff before a championship game then they shouldn’t be punished for losing.

I feel like it’s still possible for a 3 loss sec team to get into the playoffs

4 spots to conference champs plus one at large right? So 5 secured spots. So 7 spots left.

Let’s just say the champs are Texas, Ohio state, Miami/acc, roll dice for big xii, Boise.

I feel like Ohio state and Oregon get in regardless unless Ohio state loses to Michigan.

So that’s 8 spots secured if we include Oregon getting in regardless. 9 spots if Texas loses now between sec championship. So 3 spots left. Note dame gets one. Penn state and Indiana will only have one loss if they don’t play in the championship game. So do they both get in? So one spot. Tennessee is getting in. They lucked out imo. So I’m wrong lol. Just thinking out loud. With the scenario of Texas losing out, that would mean we beat UGA and they aren’t getting in with 3.

So yeah will be hard for a 3 loss team to get in. Unless someone in the big 10 loses next week.

Georgia won't get punished for losing the SEC championship game unless it's a blowout.

Oregon, Ohio State, Texas, Big 12 winner, Acc winner, Boise, Indiana, Penn State, Tennessee, ACC loser, Notre Dame. That leaves one more. It would be Georgia.

I think it’s just as likely the SEC gets only 2 teams in the playoffs as they get 4.   The only path to 4 is Aggies win out.  Total chaos if we win out, and UGA and Tennessee lose next week, we could be the only team in the playoffs so that’s what I’m rooting for.

Meanwhile B1G is almost certainly getting 4 teams in withe the 1, 5 and possibly 6 spots which is a joke. Outside their top 4 is a bunch of bad to really bad so it’s hard to say just how good they might be.   OSU played all 3 but none of the other 3 played each other, and OOC collectively they played 2 teams from P4, Oregon State and WVU.

What teams would you pick PSU to beat straight up on a neutral field from the SEC?   MSU and who else?   Yet they probably get the sweet spot #5.

UT being the only SEC playoff representative will be borderline erotic for me.

Make it so

Georgia is going to get one more regular season loss.

Would be hilarious for Georgia to lose to tech and then beat aggy, so that both of them have 4 losses. One being the sec champ.  Meanwhile Texas and Tennessee have 2 losses.

eta: nm got caught up in the frenzy of which sec teams took a third loss already.  Still, two 3 loss teams playing in Atlanta while two 2 loss teams do not.

If sec doesn’t get 4, how do you get to 12?  Colorado and byu? 3 ACC teams?

This is what I'm thinking the playoff scenarios are for us:

Best case: beat agy and jawja = 1st round bye and 2 seed
Mid case: lose agy = likely play indiana or something in the first round @ indiana
Worst case: beat agy, but lose to jawja = extra game + lower seed likely playing indiana or something in first round

I applaud the amount of alcohol you must have ingested last night to still be drunk enough at 10am to imply that there’s a realistic scenario where the SEC only gets 1/12 playoff spots.
Regardless of records, there is no universe where SEC gets less than 3 teams. Period.

We win out and South Carolina, Alabama, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Georgia lose next weekend.

Not really. They now have zero shot to make CFP unless they win out. It was a massive boon to UGA, Tenn and us.

SEC is getting four teams in. 2 is a laughable notion. Loser of OSU/Ducks will be 5 seed. PSU will be behind, and PSU would beat most SEC teams on a neutral field with exception of Texas, UGA, Bama, Ole Miss and Tenn.

Yeah 4 loss Aggy isn’t getting in.

Only if they’re sorta playoff bound before. Shouldn’t be hurt for losing the SEC title game if you’re already in before it.

Yep. The Auburn loss will kill them.

No just 2 ACC teams does it with ND.

4 big 10

3  SEC

2 ACC

ND

Big 12 winner

not with so many 3 loss teams.  Indiana would have to lose to Purdue. And 2 of Clemson/Miami/SMU to lose this weekend so only one ACC teams gets in.
