Looking at our schedule the rest of the way, it’s hard to see how Colorado could catch us.

its also hard to see how we could catch Winepeg.

The Saturday outcomes gave us some nice cushion with Colorado.  And yes, we really needed Winnipeg to lose that game yesterday.   Rolling with DeSmith tonight which makes sense to get Otter some extra rest down the stretch.  A W sure would be nice to close out this road trip.

4 point game with Winnipeg coming up. That's going to be pretty crucial.

Big fan of Duchene as the spiritual successor to Pavs. Can he just sign like 4 more 1 year deals?

Love Duchene.

So the Stars could have four 30-goal scorers on the roster this year. I can’t remember a season when they did that last time. Robertson (33) and Johnston (30, counting tonight). Duchene is at 29’with tonight’s tally. Roope has 27. (Rantanen has 31 with his three teams.

We have four guys at 15+ — Mush (19), Benn and Dadonov with 16 each and Harley at 15.

EDIT: Granlund now has 20 with two teams after that EN.

Winnipeg’s final eight:

@ LAK
@ VGK
@ UTAH
vs STL
@ DAL
@ CHI
vs EDM
vs ANA

Stars’ final eight:

vs NSH
vs PIT
@ MIN
vs VAN
vs WIN
vs UTAH
@ DET
@ NSH

Those last three games for both teams are pretty soft.  If there's ground to be made up, it'll be made up in the next ten days.

Meanwhile, we only need seven points in our last eight games to secure home-ice over Colorado.  With that schedule, that looks . . . doable.

When the season gets down to the end like this, weird stuff can happen. Eliminated teams bring up prospects eager to impress. Sometimes they dazzle, some days the tactics fizzle. Winnipeg's path is by no means assured.

Of course, neither is the Stars'. While it'll take something truly awful to fall below the Avs, there's a big difference between a 1st round vs the Blues/Wild or Colorado.

Yep. Beat them straight-up in the head-to-head and you're effectively tied. The Stars have more home games down the stretch compared to the Jets but I don't think that matters all that much this time of year. Jets have four road games remaining, the Stars have three. Again, it all hinges on the Dallas-Winnipeg meeting in Dallas. Win that and the Stars can do this. Lose and it's almost impossible barring a Jets' implosion.

Are we at a point to know who gets the 1 seed of points are tied?  Or does that change depending on the result of the last head to head?

eta: started answering my own question

regulation wins and then total wins are the first two.

both clubs have 40 RW right now and win has two more wins than Dallas. One game in hand, but reg wins may be important because I’d assume if we end up with more total wins, we wouldn’t be tied in points.

Stars need to take care of business and see if VGK/SL can stay hot against the Jets.  If so could set up a really big game next week.    If not, we 'should' have enough cushion against the Avs at this point to treat our last 2 road games as exhibitions and send Bischel down to get Seguin some ice time before playoffs (I think I read that is the only move we could make pre-playoffs to clear enough space).   Avs will have a rest advantage if that is the matchup as we play 2 road games (Mon/Wed) after their last game (Sun) so would think we want to either in a position to clinch the 1 seed by winning or have the 2 seed locked in and rest guys.

the jets are paper tigers - i don't want vegas on our side of the bracket so whatever results make that happen are my preference

ignoring their time in the wha before the '79 merger, and not counting any results related to atlanta or phoenix seasons......

from 79/80 to 95/96 the jets made the playoffs 11 times, missed 5, and won a total of 1 playoff series

from 11/12 through 23/24 the FA18s made the playoffs 7 times, missed 6, and have fared better winning 3 playoff series

in 29 nhl seasons in manitoba they have 1 conference final appearance - i would not bet on them to advance - they've gone out 1-4 1-4 the past 2 years after not qualifying 3 years ago

i don't know how hockey betting works but i would put some money on the 8 seed to advance

If we end up tied on points (the obvious first determinant), then there's practically no way that the Stars would have fewer regulation wins at this point.

As I see it, I'm concerned obviously with the head-to-head game against WPG. At the same time, leaking points to MIN on the travel game of a back to back would be tough. The Wild will likely be playing for seeding by that point.

This is very strongly my feeling.

I'm not looking back to what happened in 19 Diggity 5.  I just know that it's really tough to go wire-to-wire as the best team in the league.  And when you do that, it takes something out of you.  Just look at Boston last year (or was it two years ago?).  When you do that, it just feels like you're delaying the inevitable cold stretch to the playoffs.

Everyone has that run of ten games or so where they play shitty hockey.  Everyone.  Best to get that out of the way in December or January.  But time after time, we see Winnipeg hit that stretch in May.

Vegas is in the other division. There’s no scenario where the Stars play Vegas before the conference finals in today’s format unless either team is a WC.

Boston’s historic season was two seasons ago. They got a terrible first-round opponent in Florida, which went to the Finals that season and won it all last year.
