Team is an absolute mess right now.  Clinched home ice at least not that it seems worth much at the moment.   Obviously no Miro is a huge chunk of the problem but not getting near enough out of our top forwards.  Maybe Seguin can be a spark.  Start working that rust off beginning Saturday.

They look mind fucked. You don’t necessarily want to enter the playoffs on a 20 game heater, but you also don’t want to go in getting brutalized in multiple ways. 3 games to get the stink off.

First shutout in almost 80 games. Hellebuyck is having a great season, but he didn't need to be dominant. The Stars managed maybe 4 or 5 valid scoring chances all game. None of those caused him to break stride.

Dallas has a lot of talent out with injuries that are expected back, but frankly, they've been winning and playing spectacular hockey for months without that talent. They're not playing disastrously bad, but the passes that go just behind a player, a moment of indecision about when to attack or defend, or a brief misunderstanding about who's got who add up to a team that isn't measuring up the desperation that the playoff hungry clubs are leveraging. WPG played sold on defense, attacked when they could, and waited for the Stars to get out of position. Like a confident contender would.

Any realistic shot of winning the Central is gone now. If the Stars either earn one point, or the Avs lose one point, over the remaining 3 games, Dallas hosts the first round. Long suffering Rangers fans will remember the "Seven games up with seven to play" disaster, so nothing's assured. Really, I need the Stars to play their full roster over the next 3, and just focus on playing their position. They weren't overachieving during their win streak. Remembering who they are will go a long way.

Avs lost last night so that's done.   Stars host Avs first round unless somehow Stars win last 3 in regulation and Winnipeg loses last 3 in regulation which is never going to happen.

really? you're gonna break out 'never' when we all witnessed what did two games ago? I'm not saying we're gonna get there, but it ain't over till it's over. anyway, like gucci said above, use these last three to unfuck things and get ready to throw down when it matters

I mean I don't know what we're going to do but can't really fathom the team I saw choke us out last night could lose 3 straight in regulation including games against Chicago and Anaheim.   So yeah, I guess not far from the same odds from when we went up 5-2 on Tuesday with 2 left to play.  Next 3 game for Stars should be 100% focused on doing whatever we need to do to get ready for the playoffs including load management across the board IMO.  Results don't matter.  Schedule has been brutal recently.   We need to be fresh game 1 as Colorado will be rested.

fuck, you're not kidding. three days off and we play two games while they rest. any chance in hell the league starts us on Sunday instead of Friday? does Nill get no say in that?

I don't think Nill gets any say.  There are numerous regular season games involving playoff teams on Thurs so thought is they will try to let those teams rest to Sunday if they can.  Sean Shapiro broke down his "best guess" a few days ago based on expected matchups and how TV's have historically selected and predicted Dallas/Avs Saturday night puck drop.

wtf, COL is the first team done as of Sunday. everyone else in the league plays at least one more. how the fuck does that happen?

Weird schedule this year.  Avs were 1 or 2 games ahead of seemingly the entire league all season.

A little off topic but do the players say much about AAC ice? Seems like the puck was bouncing a lot last night and guys were over-skating the puck. Curious if the ice is just crap. Sort of felt like the building was getting colder last night.

I noticed some shitty ice in the Vancouver game as well.  Thought it was weird.

Last couple of weeks are concerning but the rest of the regular season is meaningless after Thurs.  You could tell energy was ramped down last night comparatively.  I fully expect us to continue sitting multiple starters this week (like yesterday) and shift minutes to 4th line.  Hopefully Seguin is ready to go tomorrow and can work some rust off.

yeah, I see no reason to try too hard these last two. Keep guys fresh, especially since the avs are kicking back and waiting for us as of yesterday. hopefully we'll start sunday, but seems like conventional wisdom says saturday

So if I had to be any sort of optimist, it would be that the Stars didn't suffer any of those inexplicable multi-game losing streaks this season until obviously this current crapfest. They didn't lose more than two games, in any fashion, in a row. Over 82 games, it was bound to happen, so I guess it's good to check that box.

Detroit and Nashville are both de-motivated to win their games. All they can do is goof up their lottery prospects at this point. Sure, Dallas needs to prioritize rest, but getting off the 0'fer is important.

What's the salary cap situation look like? During the playoffs, it doesn't apply (yep, anyone on your roster under contract can play), but we couldn't bring a player back from injury (like Seguin) for the last two if it put us over the limit. We'd have to send someone down.

I gotta think we have some cap room considering how long both Seguin and Heiskanen have been out. Am I not correct that cap hit is proportional to games played? In other words, if, for instance (I'm making this scenario up for easy math), Sequin played 41 games instead of 82, his cap hit would be $4,925,000 instead of the full $9.85M. Similarly, if Landeskog played the last Avs game only, his cap hit would be 1/82nd of his salary. I could totally have that wrong, though
