If I hadn't seen a lot of Georgiev this season, the phrase "upgrading with McKenzie Blackwood" would make me guffaw.

Don't look now, but Blackwood and the Avs are on a tear.

apparently all they needed was average goaltending and not abysmal

Love this. BBC article. Won't embed video. Or I am dumb. Maybe both.

A world record 102,343 stuffed toys hit the ice rink in a moment of "sweet, cuddly mayhem", according to an American Hockey League team.

At the game in Hershey, Pennsylvania, footage shows stuffed toys flying over the glass after the Hershey Bears scored against the Providence Bruins.

The annual teddy bear toss has been held by the Hershey Bears hockey club since 2001, with this year's event beating the previous record of 74,599 collected in 2024.

The stuffed toys will be distributed across a total of 35 local charities, according to the club.

Interesting strategy:

Quote

PHILADELPHIA -- The driver charged with killing NHL hockey player Johnny Gaudreau and his brother, Matthew, as they cycled on a rural New Jersey road pleaded not guilty to the indictment Tuesday after turning down a prosecution offer of 35 years in prison.

Sean M. Higgins, 44, appeared briefly in court in Salem County, New Jersey, and entered a formal plea to the recent indictment in the Aug. 29 deaths. The case will now move toward trial.

Defense lawyers, in a statement, said they hope to prove that the deaths stemmed not from any "malfeasance" but from "a combination of uniquely unfortunate circumstances unlikely to ever occur again."

They described Higgins as a combat veteran who has faith in the legal system.

Prosecutors say the married father of two -- who worked for an addiction treatment company -- had a history of road rage and was impaired that day after drinking five or six beers. He said he had been driving around for two hours, sometimes talking by phone with a friend, after an upsetting conversation with his mother.

Johnny Gaudreau, 31, and Matthew Gaudreau, 29, were killed near their childhood home in South Jersey on the eve of their sister's wedding.

A driver in front of Higgins told police that he had been driving aggressively. When she and another driver slowed down and moved left to go around the cyclists, Higgins sped up and veered right, striking the Gaudreaus, she said.

Higgins had a blood-alcohol level of .087, which is above the state's .08 legal limit, and failed a field sobriety test, police said.

He is being held on charges that include two counts each of aggravated manslaughter and vehicular homicide, along with evidence tampering and leaving the scene of an accident.

Defense lawyer Matthew Portella has called Higgins a loving father and a good person who "made a horrible decision that night."

Both Portella and county prosecutors confirmed the terms of the proposed deal.

$26M worth?  Lulz.

Avs are 8-1-1 with Blackwood in net and he's posted a .940 save % and 1.61 GAA since the trade.  On the season he's got the 3rd best save % in the league at .920.

No fucking idea how the Bruins are currently in a playoff position but here we are. Also, good on Pastrnak for scoring the OT winner against the Cats after those dumb fucking comments from the radio host saying he’s a locker room cancer. Not sure where that shit bag pulled that thought from but Pastrnak is literally loved by everyone in the organization.

No different than calling a middle of the pack contract too rich the moment it's signed.

cool, take that up with the person who said it. 10 games is a pretty small sample size to be riding such a high horse, but you do you. let's talk when he's played 100 (with the avs)

Blackwood has the 4th best save % in the league this season.  And he had the same save % as Swayman and Oettinger for all of last season.  I'm not just looking at his time with the Avs. He's a solid tender and definitely a step up for the Avs in net.

again, a super myopic lens to be analyzing things with. he has been mega-mid for most of his career. he was about league average with the sharks. he's had a good 10-game run (oops, since you bragged on him he lost a game. lol). we'll see if he can keep it up. so far he's 0-1 since your post.

And his contract is league average, too.  That's the whole point.  If he's average the contract is fine.  And he's been much better than average this year.

Otter was mid last year and you guys gave him $66 million this offseason.  Which goalie is overpaid again?

TIL b2b Western Conference appearances constitutes mid. Whatever, man. You can care about stats all you want. Wins and losses is all I care about. So, good luck with whatever this crusade is because it no longer involves me.

Im Okay Chicago Fire GIF by One Chicago

Look at Otter's stats.  Very mid.  But f you're satisfied with WC Finals appearances I guess he's probably fine.

97 needs to be careful because if he continues doing this shit someone much bigger and stronger than him will eventually put his head through the boards. You can’t pretend to be a tough guy and not face tough guy consequences.
