FWIW, Gretzky had 1963 assists. Ovechkin has 724. Nsiap.

Yeah but one got to pass to messier and kurri a lot and one didn’t, and the 80s were higher scoring in general

Agree.  That said, it is even more amazing that he amassed that many goals with scores like Messier, Kurri, Nicholls, LaFontaine, McTavish, Robataille, etc. with him.  Gretzky's goals per year dropped notably when he left Edmonton, but he remained as prolific in getting his teammates involved.  And, the focus on defense increased dramatically in the early 2000s to present.

Ovechkin had the likes of Backstrom, Semin, and Kuznetov with him over the years, but none of those guys are household names like the ones Gretzky got to collaborate with.

Also - Ovechkin has a lifetime +/- of 63, or 3 per 82 game season.  Gretzky was 520; 29 per 82 game season.

hopefully, the low of the season

Are the Stars gonna blow it out trying to catch Winnipeg or will they just settle down, take the #2 seed and get ready for the Avs?  Avs clinched the 3 seed last night so they're locked in.

Probably depends on what happens tonight.  WIR and I bet they keep pressing.

Frozen Four today!

St. Louis was a brutally bad choice.  So many empty seats.  Feel bad for the players.

All in on BU over WMU.  Time for a Hockey East team to win it again!

If my experience with folks from St Louis still holds, they might still be making their way to the seats. but yeah, kinda terrible location

Well, the regionals were in Fargo, Allentown, Manchester, and Toledo.

Whoever is in charge of NCAA hockey is a fucking idiot.

The Frozen Four is in Vegas next year and we do have regionals in the Denver area the next two years, but they're of course in a minor league rink in one of the northern suburbs.
