Twitter was cool when I followed a bunch of historians and museums to keep up with historiographical trends. That kind of curated experience is really what it was best at doing for people. When that kind of thing ended due to algorithm changes and people leaving the platform it made it pointless.

Never had one.

Ditto.

But I can't say I didn't appreciate those who did posting some of the more interesting stuff here.  Glad to see its slowly migrating to other formats.

Twitter was the worst, least user friendly social media platform even prior to Elon taking over.  It’s just gotten much worse with him at the helm.  I’m sure I have a profile out there I should have probably deleted years ago, but I can’t remember the last time I’ve logged in.  I never used Twitter regularly.

I find it to be the opposite, which is really funny to me. I still have it bc it's the only platform I have that still shows me what I want, not what they want. if you stay on "Following" instead of "For You" you will mostly (maybe completely?) only see people you have chosen to follow. It can get a little repetitive at times if you don't have a deep pool. My hope is that elmo will get ousted or he'll see after the election. he'll probably have to bc I think something is coming down the pike that has him scared shitless. he's said multiple times he's fucked if trump loses. I can't wait to see what that means.

Pollution fines; crashing companies, crippling drug addiction, no friends, to begin with.

Gotta be some illicit sex shit. Maybe Trump has something on him like he does with lady bugs

it's all so dumb bc had he chosen to align a different way he'd likely be the most popular person on the planet - exactly what he wants. instead he's a sad villain

Bro got outside and turn the news off.

I get the sentiment and agree most of the time with say doomscrolling the news but must be nice at this moment in time to be this laissez-faire about what's going on. Apologies of course if that's a gross assumption on my part.

Come to Threads,  a lot of historians there (“history threads”), having some cool conversations without porn bots jumping in.

I just don't understand what deleting your twitter account is supposed to do. Elon didn't buy it to make money or increase the user count.

For me it's less about "sticking it to Elon", and far more about simply removing myself from the negativity and inhumanity.  Beyond that, it's just a personal acknowledgement that it's become a bad product.

BW3 was my favorite restaurant 30ish years ago.  Sure, it deeply offends me that they pretend that there's something called a "boneless wing", but mostly I don't go anymore because the wings are tiny, it costs too much, and all the sauces are made from high fructose corn syrup.

It's hurts his wallet.  They already have hemorrhaged a lot of advertisers, so much so that he's actually trying to sue them for not advertising on his platform.  If he loses his user base, they'll lose even more ad revenue.  Why advertise on a dead\dying platform?  His financial empire could really collapse if the right dominoes fall into place.  A bottoming out of the twitter user base and a boycott of Telsa cars would be devastating.  He leveraged an insane amount of debt to take over twitter.   We could really hurt him if we were coordinated about it.  If the government stopped subsidizing space X perhaps...

It would be better if their embeds weren't trash.

Also X has been incredibly horribly slow for me as of late. I only use it to post on the surly account and don't really read anything.

No porn bots?
So I’m the only guy who sees “do you guys think a 40 yr old mom with a natural body is sexy?” posts?
I mean, I always answer “yes,” so MAYBE that’s why I keep seeing them….

I dumped it the day he bought it and haven't missed it.  If it's news that's really important, I'll find out about it soon enough.  I don't need to know anything before everyone else.

I have an account, don't use it anymore, but not bothering to delete it.

I prefer to leave it like a junked car up on blocks in X's weed-choked yard.

I still keep it to follow all the Ukraine stuff.  Julia Davis and such.

Yeah, I've managed to replace all of the college football stuff with r/cfb (and of course Surly).

I still have a few "professional" accounts, but I'm posting everything I do on those accounts on all the other major services and have made it clear on my profile that if you want to interact, find me elsewhere. I could probably stop posting on those accounts (or only post really important stuff) and things would be fine.

Ukraine is the one that's truly holding me back.

Just did mine as well. Ive been thinking about it for a while.

Never tweeted anything. It became such a drain on my mental health.

Ive improved my sleep habits over the last month or so and am on pace for about 400k steps in October.

I'm making an effort to clear out the needless and trim my life to focus on the good and sweet and important.

Also Fuck Elon.

You are a better man than me.

I'm not knocking what you believe in. I'm very open politically but I'm also jaded and cynical.

On a more micro level, getting off of social media and the screen in general is almost assuredly good for your health. So while I think it might be silly from the point of sticking it to Elon I'll count it as a win against social media contributing to the downfall of society. Hence my cunty "go outside and turn off the news" comment.

Don’t visit xitter or hiptok, so embeds, and the folks who sift through those xit sites, allow me to see what might be interesting to see. Interesting the only poster who advocates for blocking those type posts also shits on our system of government.
