So, meh, I moved on.

Fair enough. I too am somewhat surprised by our fans lack of super cowardly behavior. Maybe we've turned a corner as a fan base.

The internet is going to speculate he'll announce Arch Manning is entering the transfer portal.

"My cousin knows someone some one who delivers energy drinks to the locker room, and they saw the locker room clearly divided between Arch and Ewers with some angry words being said...now you didn't hear from me, and i'm not saying it will happen, but he heard that Arch wasn't gonna play another down and save his season to go play for Oklahoma next year.  Said his Dad Cooper really liked the atmosphere and was making inroads with the coaches.  Texas is doomed soon...gig 'em!"

-some aggy...probably.

One of the Texas papers did an interview with Craig, felt bad. This one play royally fucked him up. Turns out coaches and teammates point to a half dozen other mistakes like Orr dropping a TD pass and the immaculate Jeff Ward missing two FG (had missed only one all year). Curry wasn’t even supposed to be in the game the safety punt team had another guy who actually practiced catching punts. The punt was short and terrible, the deep return man yelled “you you you” and curry tried to catch it. Yeah he never should have, but damn if in retrospect this wasn’t a team loss consistent with the truism if you let your opponent hang around bad shit can happen. Georgia had no business winning that game. And now 40 years later I think I’m going to lay the blame at everyone - probably as much the coaches as the players and certainly not just Mr. Curry. I hope he finds more peace with that moment in his life.

It's like Gideon or Buckner.  There was a lot of stuff that happened before that which could have made things turn out different but we only remember the cherry on top of the shit sundae.

Gerry Hamilton made a great point (as he so often does) that the Georgia game is less of a threat in certain ways because the players are going to be so amped up for it. It's the Vanderbilt game in Nashville the next week that he's pointing to for a potential Texas letdown. But we have to get there, first.

Presuming Texas gets there, I’d like to thank Alabama for being the canary in that coal mine. I don’t think there’s any way in hell Texas allows itself to be the second #1 team to lose there this season.

Gideon's play was worse but again...all Mack had to have done was burn some more clock on the drive that Texas took the lead and Tech never has the chance on that last drive. And that was no Monday-morning QBing. It seemed like everybody in the game thread was going nuts that we were scoring too fast.

Took me a second. I was like what the fuck did Dan Buckner do?

I feel like he contributed to an interception that nearly lost Texas the 2009 Big 12 title game.

But yeah, Bill Buckner. As a Texas fan I am kind of glad they shifted to Buckner instead of all of New England blaming Calvin Schiraldi.

Totally, 100%. Georgia is getting a lot of trust based on their previous dominance when this team is not any where near that neighborhood.

They are still a very talented team. Has anyone recruited better than Georgia for the last 5 years or more? It's pretty much been Ohio State, Georgia and Bama as the top 3 recruiting teams typically and we've started breaking into that arena of late. Georgia hasn't played to their potential for complete football games yet, but they are battle tested if for no other reason than not taking care of business in the first half of games. They will be galvanized for this game and may play their best football yet. Not hard to see the potential for a real barnburner in this game. Who knows how it actually will play out. Likewise, this will be our first test against a good offense. It's absolutely valid to acknowledge that.

So yeah, we're rightfully favored, but totally understandable why not by a substantial margin.

Bama managed to get Beck out of sorts in the first half, but he came out having regained his composure in the second and darn near pulled off the comeback.

Will be interesting to see if our pass rush can get home to Beck or disrupt him. Also interested to see if Georgia can have success running the ball up the middle. We've been somewhat susceptible to that.

Yes.. You can say they played to the 2 best halves of the year vs Clemson and Bama. They have ton of potential. If they play to their talent level and disciplined, they probably win. The only issue is they have not played like that all year. It why most Texas fans are predicting Texas to win, but none are going to bet their mortgage on a Texas win.

No way dude. We have a higher ceiling.  We have more talent.  Both teams play to their capability Texas wins 7-10 point game in Austin.  Quinn is better, our OL is better, our WR's are better, our TE is better. They are better at TB.  They are better at specialist (I think).  Front 7 is probably pretty close to a push.  We are lots better in the secondary.  We are better on the headsets. I'm not saying they are untalented- I'm just saying that the guys they have are not as talented as the guys we have- some of it is they've got some pretty injured dudes.  But yeah- best v best bet on Texas. I bet if you were talking the 44 starters and turning that into 1 team Texas would have 15 or 16 of the 22.

I think we win if we get peak Ewers. If he starts out like he did against OU -- trouble. But having that game out of the way, I'm optimistic he won't regress, or if he does start slow, that he'll adjust more quickly this time. Looking forward to see how the defense and the PK/Nansen duo handle the chess game too. Will we see more Lafau in this game? He really popped against OU. And how will the secondary handle an offense that poses a true passing threat with an elite QB and WRs? To what degree can our pass rush mitigate stress on the secondary?

I am not an expert on Georgia, but from what I have seen they are not disciplined and might have an OC problem. Talent is not their issue. Texas secondary communicates and plays together better, than Georgia. Physical talent, Georgia is better in the secondary. This is insane to say after the last 10 years of mostly walking in the desert of mediocrity, but Texas is the better coached and more disciplined team. Dont twist this into me saying the talent is vastly different and this similar to Texas vs Kansas in Sark's first year.

UGA’s handler seems dumber than Uga

Seiler: Baylor used to bring out a bear cub. Uga walked up to sniff the bear's butt, and he spun around and, damn if he didn't spin Uga like a top. I don't think they can possibly bring a cub anymore.

I feel confident about beating Georgia, but not overly so.
The more remarkable thing is that if, even two years ago, you showed us a schedule that had Georgia coming to Austin, I doubt many of us would say, "Yeah, I think we can beat them."  Just shows how Sark's tenure has produced a complete attitude change among our fanbase and a confidence in our team we haven't felt since 2009.

This right here.

I don’t know what’s going to happen. But I’m more excited about this game than I have been for a game in a looong time. Because it will be a great measuring stick to see where we really stack up.

Lots of talk for a long time leading up to this one. I told a couple of Ohio state guys on the plane to Columbus in 2005 that of course I wasn’t sure what would happen but I would have rather gone into that game with the team we had that year over any team we’d had in the past decade or more. They seemed a little surprised to hear that. Turned out ok.

That’s the way I feel about this team and this game too.

Can’t wait for Saturday to find out what’s what.

LFG.

Ehhh maybe. They're looking very beatable and still have to play at Tennessee and at LSU, plus the Iron Bowl at the end of the season. They could pretty easily end the year with 2-3 losses in conference. Assuming we beat UGA, Bama at LSU and LSU at A&M are the two games that will determine who makes the conference title game. LSU and A&M have 0 losses in conference. A&M has been gifted an unbelievably easy schedule. They don't have to play Bama, UGA, Ole Miss, or Tenn and they get LSU and Texas at home. The toughest road game they play all year will be at South Carolina.

Same.  It's stupid to do a cheer for your conference, especially when its not even a game against an opponent from another conference.  A bunch of dorks at Woodrow's did this last Saturday toward the end of the OU game.

LOL we are going to fuck up Georgia and it won't be that close.  Feeling as confident as I did against Michigan and OU

Georgia will score some, but Beck hero ball his way to some interceptions.  Georgia defense is extremely susceptible.

Texas wins by 10 after a garbage time TD by Georgia in the final few minutes

That SoCar vs A&M game could get interesting. 2 legit DLs in that game. SC edges are excellent. Kennard is an absolute beast. If SoCar gets a couple explosives on offense and they have a chance. Would like them more if their OL was not happy to imitate a well-worn speed bump.

So, meh, I moved on.

Neuheisal is the first national expert I've heard that picked Georgia (this AM on Sirius XM).  His premise was our secondary just hasn't been tested at all (fair) and that he thinks Beck will be able to put up points on us.  He also said he wouldn't be surprised if Texas wins or even if Texas wins comfortably and generally thinks it's going to be a great chess match/game, but that was where he was leaning (also noting Georgia is a bit more desperate and Kirby will have them amped up).  I thought it was fair take I thought.  I tend to agree if we lose it will resemble something similar to OU or UW game last year where we make some mistakes on offense and run into a hot QB.   Our secondary and defense generally played poorly against OU but Penix Jr. was just on fire against us.  Beck playing at an elite level he hasn't really showed yet this season with no turnovers is how we lose.

This whole notion of Georgia has their back against the wall so it means they will play better is bullshit. Texas has had this game circled on their calendar for the past year, it's not our fault Georgia has looked average in a lot of their games so far. Sarkisian is likely approaching this game like we have our backs against the wall as well. He lit up Smart's defense in 2020, and that Georgia team was much better defensively than this one, and Texas is simiarly talented to that Alabama offense.

“Every game is the SEC championship game.” I know it sounds like bullshit, but it really does seem like they’ve fully bought in.

Even with the turnovers and drops against Mississippi State, Texas has come to play every game so far.

I didn't take it that way at all. I'm just saying that you don't worry about anything other than us playing well. If we play at our best we are the best team in the country, and I don't think, maybe outside of Ohio State playing at their apex, that anyone else is particularly close.  Play a poor game and you could obviously lose to 10 or 20 different teams.

Both being SEC teams makes it irrelevant. Thus sarcasm.

Exactly. I expect the ratings for this game to reflect it too. Hot take, I know, but interested to see how it stacks up to the Ohio State vs Oregon viewership.

Spoiler

Big audience for top-three matchup of Ohio State, Oregon

Saturday’s Ohio State-Oregon college football game averaged a combined 10.2 million viewers across NBC and Peacock, per Nielsen fast-nationals and Adobe Analytics — trailing only Georgia-Alabama on ABC two weeks earlier (11.99M per Nielsen) as the most-watched game of the college football season. A Nielsen-only figure was not immediately available.

Viewership was in range of NBC’s similarly-hyped Ohio State-Notre Dame primetime game last season, which averaged a combined audience of 10.6 million.

The combined audience — which peaked at 13.4 million in the 10:45 PM ET quarter-hour — is the largest for a primetime Big Ten regular season game since Penn State-Ohio State in 2008 (10.4M). Keep in mind the standard caveats regarding out-of-home viewing (which was not included in Nielsen estimates until 2020) and the combined Nielsen-Adobe figures (most other figures will be Nielsen-only).

Ohio State-Oregon was just the latest newly-created matchup borne of the recent wave of college realignment. Of the five most-watched intra-conference games this season, three are due to realignment — Saturday’s game, USC-Michigan on CBS September 21 (6.32M) and Tennessee-Oklahoma on ABC that same day (6.27M). The two exceptions are the Georgia-Alabama game and Georgia’s narrow win over Kentucky on ABC September 14 (6.60M).

The last time Ohio State played Oregon — a non-conference matchup three years ago — the game drew shy of eight million in the FOX “Big Noon Saturday” window. The teams’ previous meeting was in the 2015 national championship, which of course was a much bigger draw with more than 30 million.

Columbus, Ohio, led all markets Saturday night with a 27.0 rating and 64 share, followed by Cleveland at a 20.1/52. There was no competition from Saturday’s Tigers-Guardians MLB Postseason game, which was moved up from 8 PM ET to 1 PM to avoid weather. Portland placed third with a 12.4/48, and Cincinnati fourth with a 10.1/30. Detroit was the top market outside of Ohio or Oregon with a 9.3/29, followed by Indianapolis at a 7.6/25. Austin, Texas, was the top market outside of a Big Ten state with a 5.8/22.

If we win this game, I will officially move past the ptsd I have from the Herman and Strong eras and will start thinking we’re going to drag our nuts across everyone we play.

That said, people here are underestimating Beck. The kid is a damn good qb. Has he thrown some bad picks? Yep. So has Quinn. But Beck works the middle of the field well and unquestionably throws a better deep ball. If Quinn could hit the deep ball I would feel that he’s the better QB, but he can’t, so it seems hubris to say without question that he’s better.

Lastly, Georgia has a legit FG kicker and we have….Bert. Let’s hope it doesn’t come down to a field goal.

Yeah, that won't be an easy win for them, but SCar's weak OL against A&M's DL will be a problem. Sellers will have to make a lot of off schedule plays. Still though, SoCar being your toughest road opponent all season is a joke. A&M is probably the 6th or 7th best team in the conference, but they have a good shot at making the title game because they have the easiest SEC conference schedule when you take into account opponent strength and home vs. road games.

The script is already written. It's really more of an outline than a script, in that the outcomes are dependent on each other, but it's done.

There will be three meetings of Georgia and Texas this season. In this first one, it is anticipated that Texas will prevail, but the Dawgs might win if their QB has a stellar day against our DBs. Either way, it likely will be reffed to a one-possession final margin.

The second meeting, of course, will be in the CCG. In it, the loser of the first game will win. The preferred, although not required, is that Georgia wins the CCG, simply because the members are quite adamant about not having Texas walk into the conference and snatch the trophy. This, of course, means that we win the first game, but if we don't, we will be rewarded with the conference crown instead.

Both teams will be in the playoffs - the CCG winner of course being in the top four, and the loser in the other eight. It makes things more comfortable if two-loss Georgia is the top four team, as a one-loss Texas is inarguably included in the playoffs. This makes me think the refs either allow or assist us in the first game.

The third meeting is in the playoffs. Ideally in the Grand Finale, but the politicking required to insure that may be beyond Commissioner Stankey's reach.

We shall see.
