StubHub Experience- RRS

Recommended Posts

I thought I would share my lessons here, on the chance it might help someone who didn’t know this already. Mods, feel free to another forum if it’s more suited there.

I bought a pair of tickets to the RRS on StubHub two weeks ago. Good price for pair in sect 117 (direct Ctr of NEZ upper deck). After I bought them, I realized that they were in that small sliver of OU seats in that section. I figured that would be ok; there would be plenty of orange around.

With the game approaching, the tix had not been transferred. I called StubHub; they said to not worry until game day. Friday, they sent a message- the seller notified them he could not deliver the mobile tix. I was offered a replacement pair that was in the SEZ. I talked with my buddy, and after reviewing prices for tickets on the Texas side, decided we’d go for it.

Those tickets weren’t delivered either. Day of game, determined to get in, we were preparing to bribe a ticket scanner to get in (I am far too old and square to be entertaining such notions, but really wanted to be at the game). Called StubHub again, tried a new ticket pair, and these were actually sent by the seller with an hour to spare. Yea! Spent the game among the Sooners in the SEZ (probably about 5% Texas fans).

Lesson 1. A friend told me later that SeatGeek is better for these games than StubHub, that the ticket transfers work better. Also, for big games, he buys two pairs to increase the chance of receiving at least one pair (assume he sells or otherwise dispositions the extra if it comes).

Lesson 2. Why did two pairs of OU tix, out of three contracted, not arrive? I have a theory. I suspect the seller puts the tickets on StubHub at a low (certain) price and on SeatGeek at a high (aspirational) price. He doesn’t have to deliver until game day, so when someone like me “buys” the value price, he has a bird in the hand and is happy to wait to see if the two in the bush will come through.

Lesson 3. Don’t enter into a commercial agreement with an Okie if they can profit by not fulfilling their side of the deal.

The easiest method is to purchase from whichever third party resale site has the relationship with the team  As the tix can be put up for sale via your ticketholder site and presumably transferred automatically upon purchase.  For Texas games that is Seatgeak.  For Stars/Mavs games, that is Ticketmaster for example.

Yup I had a rough experience with Stubhub maybe 5 years ago with tickets to a football game (not a UT game).  Bought them 2 weeks in advance but gameday arrived and the seller still hadn't transferred.  I called their Customer Service about 2 hours before kickoff and was told the seller wasn't required to transfer the tickets until something like 30 minutes before the event, despite the fact that Stubhub had accepted my money 2 weeks prior.  I didn't recall that policy from the purchase page but it's entirely possible that I just overlooked it.  Regardless it's a terrible policy because my plan was to get there an hour early, enter the stadium, and leisurely enjoy the club-level amenities that came with the tickets I'd already paid for.  Obviously  it didn't quite work out as I'd hoped.

The customer service rep was trying to be as helpful as possible, had given me her direct extension so I could call if the transfer didn't occur within 30 minutes of kickoff.  And, it didn't.  She offered me a comp of $150 on my account for my trouble and dissatisfaction but told me there was nothing she could do to get the seller to transfer.  Finally about 15 minutes before kickoff, the tickets finally transferred.  We entered and got to our seats and just missed kickoff, so no great harm done but plenty of unnecessary anxiety for an experience that should have been a lot smoother.

Let the buyer beware, of course.  Suffice to say I've never done business with Stubhub since.

I stopped using stubhub. They don’t seem to give a shit about the buyer so fuck’em.

Seatgeek has been better, plus I enjoy that I can see the price with the fees included. That really helps especially when you’re buying ticket for a group of people and trying to talk about prices, having the full face value is extremely convenient.

Yeah…it’s gotten pretty bad on that site and their support is horrendous imo. I’m a big aisle seat person and prefer themfor almost any game/event.

I bought tickets on stubhub recently that clearly were labeled aisle but were not when we got there. Called next day and they said computer error…blah blah blah.

Adios.

Been happy with SeatGeek and never had issue with Ticketmaster.

I could probably become president of the United States based solely on a pledge to make sure the executives of these ticket broker sites are assfucked to death by a rabid rhino. they are getting away with these bullshit astronomical fees and yet still cant guarantee a fucking ticket?  thats some bullshit. Figure out your technology you fucking clowns. I use them maybe a couple of times a year and havent had any bad experiences, but its usually for low demand events like UT Men's basketball vs southwest texas bible college in Dec. Goddamn that would piss me off if I dropped hundreds for a game like OU or UGA.

I used to buy tickets all the time on stubhub. Only a few times in the last few years. I would always make sure they were Instant Download, which meant they were all ready to go. Not sure if it the same these days.

I didn't know any better so I used stubhub.  Bought two in the Texas end on Sunday night.  They were delivered and downloaded within 10 minutes.

Will use SeatGeek or TicketMaster going forward.

I bought Georgia tix on StubHub last month. I didn’t look closely enough to see that they are mobile tickets, not mobile transfers. So all I have are 4 QR codes. Which made me very nervous since I’ve always got the transfer and then downloaded them into my Apple wallet. But you can’t do that with regular mobile tickets. So I got on SH’a help chat and I was assured they will work. Still, I called customer service and she assured me they are fine and I can scan them at the stadium. She also said the actual tickets will be delivered Saturday morning. I’ve done a lot of research and it looks like I’m in the clear. But I’m still nervous as fuck they won’t work.

Sounds like you'll be okay but probably not a bad idea to get to the stadium well ahead of time and beat the crowds just in case there's an issue and you have to go to will call or something.  Luckily the stadium now sells overpriced beer for your waiting pleasure.

I sold tickets on Stubhub when Alabama played here. I got a call in the 1st quarter from them. They said the buyer said the tickets wouldn’t scan. I hung up.

The following week I called Stubhub and informed them that they need to go and fuck their mothers and give me money. I got it about 10 days later. I bet the buyer was shady and tried to say it wouldn’t work in an attempt to get the money back. Whatever.

The guy standing  behind my niece (no pics - she’s 65) at the game said he paid $500 each for two tickets that turned out to be fake.
I do not know what source scammed him, but he used the $100 handshake to get in.

The comprehensive switch to e-ticketing is fucking bullshit on about a thousand levels.

True. On the other hand for a game like Texas OU, you don't have to worry about having the time to either meet the person to exchange the money or to have them mail you the tickets. So a last minute purchase is an option. It's also a little nice to not have to worry about losing a physical ticket. I think one thing all these sites needs to do is have you sign into a Texas Box Office account to get the tickets transferred to you. When I bought from a Surly poster last season, he transferred the tickets from his account to mine. I bought from Seatgeek this year and the tickets were sent to my Seatgeek account. Maybe adding an additional layer would snuff out some of the BS and scams. You have to have a Texas or OU account to buy a ticket to the game any how.

StubHub is also a pain to deal with if you deserve a refund (e.g. your team was eliminated from the playoffs before it got to the game you bought tickets for). That should be instant but takes them multiple 'we are processing your refund emails' and weeks to actually do it.

I remember when scalping was illegal. Now we have so many ways to enable it. Which is fine or whatever but there are so many issues with online ticketing. My favorite part is the “fees” that don’t show until you get to the cart.

Criminalizing scalping was always a stupid idea.

A couple of years ago had the same thing happen on SeatGeek. Bought tickets a week before the game and they never arrived. Day of game and no tickets. Was walking around outside the fair the morning of the game trying to get my refund plus 20 percent from SeatGeek and scrounge around for tickets on other sites. Found 2 on Texas side on StubHub that worked.

That's the last time I went to the game. It was crazy hot that day and after all that I Don't want to deal with it when I can just watch it on TV and go about my day. Almost nobody I used to go to games with in my time on campus goes anymore so other than my family not anyone to go with these days anyway.

We saw Beyonce in Toronto last year since her show there fell on my husband’s birthday. We got floor seats that would have been like 2-3x as much here in the States because of those fucking fees. I understand companies have to make money and they are providing a service that cuts out a lot of hassle. But still, fuck em

You may have seen me post about it, but for sports you can use the autograph app to buy tickets and they will back it with their fulfillment partner too.

I have a direct line to their CEO and COO that I've never had to use and everyone I've personally sent there has gotten their tickets immediately and with no fees (but it may be similar to tick-pick, similar pricing but no fees on buyer side)

Give it a shot if you haven't and want to try something new I can recommend and back.

My experience also is to not wait until you are at the gate as the internet connection (data or wifi) can interfere with downloading.  Ran into that at an Auburn a few years ago.

I would love to waste some time explaining this to you but just look it up. Monopolization, exploitation. See the 2005 Rose bowl, or more recently for a guy like you, Taylor Swift.

If you’re the first vendor it should be first come, first serve, not dynamic pricing for starters. Dynamic pricing or scalping should be for the secondary market.

Lookie there, you’re smarter now that you’ve learned this.

No. The ticket vendors don't set the event prices, the event organizer does. If the prices are set too low below what the market will bear, the prices on the secondary (i.e. "scalping") market will be higher than the face value.

That is NOT screwing the ticket vendors - they still get their cut either way. It's a missed opportunity by the event organizers by setting their prices too low.

And, in any event, why should I, as someone who bought a ticket, be restrained from reselling my ticket?

You can’t fucking read, I get it.

You are the secondary market. I specifically said you can have dynamic pricing or scalping if you already bought it you brain dead fuck.

Ticketmaster has set dynamic pricing all of the time as the first vendor which is why they’ve had so many lawsuits against them. There’s been legislation introduced to allow more control of this.

You don't think the artist or team consents to dynamic pricing at the initial sale and taking a cut?  They are trying to capture that profit instead of scalpers

First come, first served is the biggest part of why there are scalpers in the first place. There’s no reason why dynamic pricing should be limited to the secondary market. Fixed pricing is why it’s such a pain in the ass to get so many things with high demand because it utterly ignores demand.

Particularly when scalpers have consistently managed to get around whatever bot protection is put in place to buy out all the mispriced inventory ahead of the general public. I  have no issue with up front dynamic pricing at all.  Now if people want to bitch about tickemaster up front fees or 3rd party resale fees being exorbitant then I'm here for it.

This. Dynamic pricing allows for lower start prices. Artists can set lower start prices without worry that they will miss out. It just looks bad, but prices would have been set higher to start without it.

Yeah, being able potentially to abuse the market because you’re the only source and there’s no competition on fees is a separate issue.

Maintaining artificially low prices in the face of high demand — whether it’s tickets, game consoles, or whether — is the biggest chunk of why scalpers even exist.

Good to know about SeatGeek, StubHub has fucked me over twice last year with transferring issues, once for a Euros game in Stuttgart (seller didn't transfer until like seconds before kick) and once for the Ole Miss - Wake Forest game (transferred tickets had no QR code). Dogshit customer service as well.
