2024 - 2025 Dallas Mavericks Season Thread - This time we're not happy to just be here.

Wanted to keep track of ref crews over-asserting themselves last season post-ASB when there was a noticeable difference in how physicality was being called.  Gonna see if I can keep this up.

They called 28 fouls on us to PHX's 17.  We shot 18 FTs, PHX had 37.

There was a PHX challenge on a blocked shot that overturned a foul call late in the 4th based on the defender getting ball before the lower part of his body made contact with the shooter.

I ordered a $30 HD antenna from amazon and set it up on my samsung. Getting the tv to scan and find the channels took a bit of trial and error but I’m pretty sure I got ‘em. Channel 29-1 KFAA is coming through.

Production test is tomorrow night mavs vs jazz.

I added the mavs schedule to my iCal from this link.

https://www.mavs.com/schedule/full-schedule/

I’m liking the new management group.

Production test successful. Mavs game on TV via HD antenna. World series on ipad.

Antenna working great for me but I got a call from my daughter in college so my bitch ass has now bought both.

Got gangster on them at the end. Naji was good.

Kidd is gonna do Kidd roster shit for later on and lose some games early. It'll be aight.

For once I'd really like us to get out to a fast start. That way it's not as catastrophic when we have an injury to a key player.

He looks out of shape. I know he was hurt in preseason, but still disappointing to see.

every year...probably get worse now that he's married.

and another brick.  thank god for Kyrie

Luka's in good shape, you can tell from his physique he put the work in.  I think that calf injury's still lingering more than he or Kidd are letting on.  His shot selection is not normal- lotta settling for fadeaway jump shots instead of of taking it to the hole. I don't think he can push off that leg. But it could also be that everyone's putting more of an emphasis on the defensive end this year and he's conserving energy or tired.   He's been so good on that side of the floor.

It's October, so if he's actually hurt as bad as you're saying, he needs to sit. Dude is shooting 36% from the field.

You can see some cut and definition in his arms for once in his career:

I think it's 75% he's focusing on the defensive end and 25% the calf injury.  He knows he's got a deeper bench this year who can take slack off him on the offensive end and he's heard the calls of him needing to lead by example on the defensive end.  But I can't get over his shot selection and his inability? unwillingness? to get to the hole.  Granted we've played SA (Wemby), Utah (how many tall white lane cloggers do they have?), and Minn (Gobert) so his paint shot % will probably go up as we get deeper into the season.

I'm pretty stoked with Luka's defense so far this year albeit with a small sample size. I think he's earned the benefit of the doubt in regard to figuring out his offense and this season the Mavs are lucky enough to have another option in addition to Kyrie to take some of the burden off while he does so. Put me in the "not remotely concerned" camp. If he is playing this type of defense in the playoffs I'll go out on a limb and say that Dallas is going to go pretty far.
