2024 - 2025 Dallas Mavericks Season Thread - This time we're not happy to just be here.

Wanted to keep track of ref crews over-asserting themselves last season post-ASB when there was a noticeable difference in how physicality was being called.  Gonna see if I can keep this up.

They called 28 fouls on us to PHX's 17.  We shot 18 FTs, PHX had 37.

There was a PHX challenge on a blocked shot that overturned a foul call late in the 4th based on the defender getting ball before the lower part of his body made contact with the shooter.

I ordered a $30 HD antenna from amazon and set it up on my samsung. Getting the tv to scan and find the channels took a bit of trial and error but I’m pretty sure I got ‘em. Channel 29-1 KFAA is coming through.

Production test is tomorrow night mavs vs jazz.

I added the mavs schedule to my iCal from this link.

https://www.mavs.com/schedule/full-schedule/

I’m liking the new management group.

Production test successful. Mavs game on TV via HD antenna. World series on ipad.

Antenna working great for me but I got a call from my daughter in college so my bitch ass has now bought both.

Got gangster on them at the end. Naji was good.

Kidd is gonna do Kidd roster shit for later on and lose some games early. It'll be aight.

For once I'd really like us to get out to a fast start. That way it's not as catastrophic when we have an injury to a key player.

Just tuning in. Luka appears to be playing like absolute shit but we’re up double digits. Go figure.

It'd be nice if he'd either hit a 3 or stop shooting them.  he's been awful the last 2 games.

Luka's in good shape, you can tell from his physique he put the work in.  I think that calf injury's still lingering more than he or Kidd are letting on.  His shot selection is not normal- lotta settling for fadeaway jump shots instead of of taking it to the hole. I don't think he can push off that leg. But it could also be that everyone's putting more of an emphasis on the defensive end this year and he's conserving energy or tired.   He's been so good on that side of the floor.

It's October, so if he's actually hurt as bad as you're saying, he needs to sit. Dude is shooting 36% from the field.

You can see some cut and definition in his arms for once in his career:

I think it's 75% he's focusing on the defensive end and 25% the calf injury.  He knows he's got a deeper bench this year who can take slack off him on the offensive end and he's heard the calls of him needing to lead by example on the defensive end.  But I can't get over his shot selection and his inability? unwillingness? to get to the hole.  Granted we've played SA (Wemby), Utah (how many tall white lane cloggers do they have?), and Minn (Gobert) so his paint shot % will probably go up as we get deeper into the season.

I'm pretty stoked with Luka's defense so far this year albeit with a small sample size. I think he's earned the benefit of the doubt in regard to figuring out his offense and this season the Mavs are lucky enough to have another option in addition to Kyrie to take some of the burden off while he does so. Put me in the "not remotely concerned" camp. If he is playing this type of defense in the playoffs I'll go out on a limb and say that Dallas is going to go pretty far.

Terrible way to end the game. Can’t believe they called that shit. Where was Lively tonight?

Perimeter defense and defensive rebounds have been such a problem this year.

No Lively tonight really hurt us. Dude is irreplaceable.

Lively's hurt. We didn't have PJ tonight either.  Even with both of them though our defensive rebounding has been problematic.  Luka needs to pull his head out and stop taking those fadeaways.  Kidd needs to say something to him but it's Kidd.  The same Kidd who has no other inbound play other than give it to Luka moving away from the basket so he can attempt a circus shot.

Kidd has not been able to adjust for losing DJJ. Naji has had a few good games offensively recently but he is not the rebounder or team defender that Jones was thus far.

Losing DJj has hurt more than I thought it would.  We also don't have anyone who can guard the team's best player like he could.

i'm watching the nuggets broadcast and even the nuggets announcers were shocked they didn't overturn that.  they brought up how we got hosed last game in phoenix the same way.  it's so frustrating.

I thought it was way too much iso the last 2 minutes and settling for long 3s.

It's the Jason Kidd way.  "Luka is the game plan." - Jason Kidd 2023

Jason Kidd does not make us better.  He's basically JB Bickerstaff.

Yep, getting fucked two games in a row feels bad, man. That said, Luka’s had some terrible shots in the clutch. He’ll pull it together, but it’s not enjoyable right now… and Kidd STILL not figuring out a better plan to close out quarters/half than Luka iso 3’s makes me ragey.

Also Luka's shot selection down the stretch is so bad.

The entire season his poor shot selection has kept us out of any rhythm.  He's being stubborn trying to shoot his way out of a slump instead of of being smart.  He's so IQ deficient in some ways.

At this point I would much rather give Ky the ball in the clutch, and this game those shots should have gone to Thompson…

Refs are fucking us late, but Luka has missed clutch shots down the stretch in the last three games… feels bad, man!
