AD, with his injury, is apparently healthy enough to be on the golf course and smoking cigars. So glad Luka was traded for smoking hookah. Cigars are way better for you.

Losers of 12 of the last 14 with 13 left.  It’s very realistic they don’t win another game the rest of the year.

gonna be hilarious when the spurs get the #1 pick in the lottery again.

Hookah = taking a vacation, fat, unacceptable

Golf+Cigar while injured during season = Mamba mentality

Did Michael Finley jump out of a bunker to knock the cigar out of his mouth?

Golf is the worst activity for someone with his injury. Which begs a few questions:

1. Just how injured is AD really?

2. If he's really as injured as they claim, who the hell is overseeing his rehab?

I had a feeling when this trade went down, AD would be mentally checked out and we'd hardly see him on the court here. He lasted less than 3 quarters and hasn't been seen since. He didn't want to come here, he loved his situation in LA with Lebron.

Great job, Nico. Fuck you.

I guess MacMahon's book got published. Dumb zone discussing it here. Warning: gonna continue to piss you off.

Too soon to watch things like this. I’ll wait for the 30 for 30 in like 10 years.

The video, which was discussing the book, seems to implicate Kidd a lot more than previously known. The further we get away from the trade, the more this stinks of Nico and Kidd being ego driven and Dumont just being a basketball dumbass who put his trust in the wrong people.

In public Kidd has said Luka could be the goat.

Kidd looked completely nonplussed in that PC. I don’t think you can fake that

Kidd could have been complaining a lot behind the scenes but still be surprised the move happened without him knowing.

Finley probably jumped in the bunker hoping to dodge all the missile strikes directed at the front office.

My wife complains about wanting new furniture and kitchen and bathroom updates, but I’m pretty sure she doesn’t want me to burn the house down

Mike Finley is a professional’s professional in everything he does and Jason Kidd is … Jason Kidd.
I have no doubt that both of those guys spent years frustrated with the fact that Luka didn’t focus maniacally on rehab/conditioning in the offseason and maintained some vices during the season in addition to being creatively irrepressible on the court. They probably talked about it with Nico and had some communication issues with Luka.
That said, both of those guys know what a GOAT-tier player is, the importance of working around them, and what they are worth.
I am 100% convinced they didn’t know this was happening until it was in motion and were very uncomfortable with it, whether or not they tried to stop it, particularly Finley.

You can't be a GOAT level player and not focus on fitness and conditioning, though.  Did anyone see Luka playing 70 games a season 10 years from now at age 35?  I certainly didn't and still don't.  All time talent, though.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the trade was unbelievably bad but they weren't wrong in their original reasons.

I understand you point,  but there’s a significant amount of personal maturing that happens from 26-30 years old.
And you were not making the comparison or defending the trade but it’s worth mentioning that Anthony Davis has only played 70 games once since 2018, when he was 25.

That's where I was even when it happened.  I get the logic behind wanting to move off Luca but you traded for him for......Anthony Davis?  M'kay.  Poetic that he got hurt the first game in Dallas.

Speaking of that, they're bringing him back last night to compete for that #10 spot.  Why?

They're out of players, dude.

But that fat Stooges look alike is still out there saying that it was a "win now" trade. I hope there is someone on the inside that is willing to leak the real motivation for the trade to either confirm many of our suspicions or if there is something we never even thought about. Literally nobody thinks that trade was anything but intentional to tank the franchise, period. OKC has built an arsenal of draft picks through trades of far less talented players, and we got jack fucking shit for one of the top 3 players in the world and likely a top 50 player alltime by the time his career is over. With nothing of note in return. There is not a single objective explanation that has any merit that the trade made any sense for anyone who truly cared about the franchise's short and long term success, period.

The explanation that they will never say, but is obvious, is that they didn’t want to pay him the $345 super max contract given his injury history, lack of conditioning, hookah and beer addictions, etc. Better to trade him now for what you can get.
That was their reasoning. Not saying I agree with it but there it is.

The moving to Vegas theory seems rather far fetched IMO.

Pelinka treated Nico like a dad treats his 6 year old in a family fantasy football league.

“oh, you really like the Cowboys. So I’ll trade you Brandon Aubrey for Ja’Marr Chase”.

This franchise loves to fucking step on their dicks.  yes Dirk(and to be fair Kidd, Sean Marion) saved us from the "no title" abyss but dick mashing is what it does.

HE said he was playing, and they can't upset him at this point or he'll want out, and maybe Kyrie too and that's all they really have going forward.

Nah they did the right thing 2 years ago by tanking, but there's really no reason to now.  They're 12th in lottery odds now, and won't get any higher.  Making the play in and getting bounce early or even the first round wouldn't make too much of a difference between 12th and 16th in the draft.

Remember, this team has NEVER EVER moved up in the draft.  Only stayed pat or fallen.  They won't risk the conspiracy theory angle by all of sudden making the Mavs get a Top 4 pick or they'll never hear the end of it anyways.

In this simulation we're living in? There's not a notion in the world, basketball- related or otherwise, that I would consider unbelievable.

I'd rather have a shot in the lottery, regardless of the history.

I get that...i just don't see them moving.  I've been watching since the lottery was a thing.  We'll get more out of seeing AD/Lively/Gafford healthy and with the team than not IMO.

Then why not wait until this summer to shop him? It would have been bigger than 2010 with the LeBron extravaganza, except with Luka, teams could actually control their odds by offering more than another team. There was no reason whatsoever to trade him for an aging, often injured player on the wrong side of 30 on a random Saturday night. Are you telling me that is the best they could do?

Just telling you what these idiots were thinking. Didn’t say they were right or they couldn’t have done better. I think everyone here agrees, they totally phucked it up.
