2024 - 2025 Dallas Mavericks Season Thread - This time we're not happy to just be here.

I think it’s most likely this team would take a couple from OKC, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if this was the year OKC swept Dallas if they were to meet. I can’t muster any emotion for OKC but I’ll be supporting them this post season. Will probably join some watch parties I’ve been invited to in the past by rabbid OKC fan friends and coworkers.

Agree, but I think they have a legit gripe on this one. Dude has been averaging like 30 mpg and his over under on points was 9.5.

Does Dinwiddie play defense?  how you gonna win without defense?  I mean, fuck will somebody play some defense!

You’re literally the only person here standing up for Frau Adelson. Gee, I wonder why? Every accusation… I thought you and your rich friends were leaving out of protest?

I’m sorry you’re into conspiracy theories you little cunt of a man. I hate Adelson and Dumont, okay?  The difference between us is that I’m not gonna let my political leanings convince me of something that isn’t true.

The Mavericks are actively shopping for land, development and deals in/around Dallas for the new arena and entertainment build. They 100% aren’t moving to Las Vegas. It’s fan delirium and conspiracy.

That said, Go Lakers. I hope Luka gets a ring this year.

No. Dumont is a basketball moron. This was 100% Nico. Dumont isn’t going anywhere. Nico will be fired very soon.

You're the one who went CR, dipshit. I called her a vile cunt, because she's a vile cunt, specifically for allowing this bullshit trade. You're the one who came in "akshually just nico" and went full CR. As for the topic at hand, I'll bet you $100 right now that Nico is not fired this offseason, because I believe she instructed him to do it or at least was happy to let him go to LA.

JFC dude.  Nico not getting fired this offseason is not fucking evidence of your tin foil hat conspiracy theory.

I didn’t go full CR. At no point have I mentioned her politics, because I don’t care. You do. It blinds you to absolute fantasy. I won’t bet you anything because you’re a total dipshit.

If they keep Nico beyond this season I will be surprised. But I don’t care because until they sell the team, I simply do not care and will not watch.

It’s not tinfoil hat stuff, owners tanking their franchises to support a move has a long history in pro sports. If that’s not the reason, it’s something else to curry favor with the league. There is zero chance it was Nico didn’t like Luka and therefore made the worst trade in pro sports history. If he was unloading he would have gotten something in return. Nobody is incompetent enough to believe the return here was anywhere close to value.

Why r you two arguing over something neither of you knows?

Because his contention is an absolutely absurd one. Adelson, for all of her political power, is extremely straightforward. She is a Zionist in the classical definition and is an extremely staunch defender of Israel. She is also been extremely straightforward about gambling in Texas. This is the entire reason they bought the Mavericks. It is an unbelievable trade, so I understand why conspiracy theories exist. But taking the team to move it to Vegas given all that we know makes absolutely no sense, and Miriam Adelson does not do things that don’t make sense. Unfortunately for her and her dipshit son-in-law, this was the most incompetent bozo trade that in my mind it was driven by a guy that had had enough of Luka internally. He was in emboldened by Cuban’s departure to act on his own and he did so with tacit approval from Dumont, who remains a basketball idiot.  If he was forced to do it against his will, he would’ve resigned.

I could see a chance of a sweep, but i think it's much more likely the Mavs snipe at least one game, and make them work for 2-3 more IMO.  If they had Kyrie i'd like to see it more..

There is more than enough high quality reporting over this entire fiasco that the picture of how this went down is pretty fucking clear unless you are wearing a tin foil hat.   And that is besides the point that it flat out wouldn't make sense economically considering a Dallas franchise (top 5 market) is inherently more valuable than a Vegas franchise.

Funny, I don't miss AD as much as I thought I would.

you actually thought you would miss him?  I assume you realize the dude is on the backside of his career. was a game time decision after one game in the play-in.

Pretty fun watching the mavericks get butt fucked on one tv and the rangers getting blanked on the other.

God why did you make me a Dallas fan

Just hold on for the Cowboys. 2025 is the year

If defense wins championships then why would you trade for Kyrie? Clearly he is not a defensive stopper. He is a great offensive player.

Why then the change of philosophy after making the finals? None of it makes any sense.

Posted

Legler is funny.  you can't really evaluate the trade because Kyrie got hurt and AD got hurt.....uh, yeah Tim, that is the problem you dumbass, they are 33 year old NBA players with a history of injuries.

Posted

gonna be hilarious when AD finds out how hard it REALLY is to drag this group of spares to a Conf Finals much less an NBA finals.

Jason Kidd is a fucking awful coach as well. Luka was covering for his ass constantly.  The glasses aren't working.

Fun fact: The Mavs allowed 120 points zero times in 22 games played in the 2024 playoffs.

Well yea, how were teams supposed to dribble around Luka’s big fat beer gut?

I’m really surprised yall watch the game last night. Are yall gluttons for punishment?  This team is dead to me until Nico is fired and the team is sold. I will actively root against them.

Yep, while I’ve always been a spurs fan first, living in Dallas for so long turned me also into a Mavs fan. But now, they are as dead to me as the Rockets. Eff em.

I sort of made my peace with this last night. I am and will remain a Mavs Fan For Life, and I really like a lot of these players. But this organization is not the Dallas Mavericks anymore. They are Las Vegas Sands Corp, and I don’t have any more of a bond to that than LAs Vegas Sands does to us or to the city of Dallas.

It would be like trading Dirk for TMac after the 2006 finals run. There's not a single person on earth(besides Nico/the Adelsons apparently) that thought this was a positive move.

Just out of curiosity, is the Rockets part just due to being a rival or was there a specific move that made them dead to you? Just asking because "dead to me" isn't usually something I think of as part of a rivalry but also can't think of any super-traumatic player transaction like Luke trade.

Good point. Mavs and Rockets aren’t the same.  Here is a better rating system that is more reflective of how I feel

1. Passionate about them - Spurs

2. Don’t even think about them - Rockets and most other NBA teams

3. Root against them - Lakers, Celtics

4. Wish for nothing but failure - Mavs

The biggest L from the Luka trade that doesn’t seem to get any chatter is that Derek Lively looks like an absolute spare offensively (shades of Dwight Powell) and looks lost offensively without Luka (and to a lesser extent Kyrie) doing all the hard work for him. He really benefited greatly from Luka and it opened up his game to be a dangerous offensive and defensive threat which is amazing for a 21 year old not yet in his prime, but now he looks like it’s first time dribbling the ball since high school when he has to do more.
