I'm 10000% out on this franchise.  Are these owners this fucking retarded?  Do they not know the reaction in this city?  Fuck these clowns.  Good riddance.
Poverty franchise.

Either Nico or the Adelsons just severely underestimated the ability of Dallas fans to not care.  I find it hard to believe that Nico, after his decisions about Lively, Gafford, PJ, and Klay, would go out and do something as wildly irresponsible as not soliciting better return for Luka than AD and a first round pick 4 years down the road. A future first rounder is the same price we paid for PJ and gafford.

The team in its current form won't work.  With the exception of Lively and Hardy, everyone was brought in to support Luka. PJ, Gafford, Naji, Kyrie, Klay, Grimes, Omax... So many of them have personal bonds with Luka.  Gafford wanted to play for slovenia! Kyrie's wife hangs out with Luka's wife. Klay came to help Luka win a championship.  How do you find the same joy and motivation to continue when the guy you thought was untouchable #1 is gone?

Staying under the tax is important for billionaire owners. Paying the tax for them is like us losing on a $20 prize pick parlay. And we know how that sucks.

To stay under the tax. They are 600k under now

Does that signal we're not considering any other moves where we could get back under the cap?

I think they could still move gafford for a 3&D guy. PJ doesn’t really work as a 3.

I'm out. Unless the NBA vetoes this trade and puts Nico in a nut house, I'm out for good.

Worst sports moment of my life.

This. They'll never see another penny of mine. Ever.

Gonna be a real pleasure talking to my son about this in a few hours.

Luka is one of those players who, as a fan, you don’t give a FUCK what you get in return for. You ride it out with him good or bad. I would’ve hated this trade if we got 7 1sts in return.

Borderline fandom ending move.

I can't find it in print anywhere, but the clowns on CBS Sports Network were saying that Luka had informed the Mavs that he would not be signing a Supermax, and that they should try to get what they could for him.  If that is true, then the trade at least becomes understandable from a motivation perspective.

What are not understandable in any way shape or form are the terms of the trade.  What the holy fuck?

I’m a fading NBA fan, and a Rockets fan at that… slight rooting interest for the Mavs because my sister is a Mavs fan.

I don’t get this trade at all. Mavs literally traded the franchise.

Just like Mavs didn't trade Dirk

His reaction to this trade...

You guys will love Christie.   Young two way player

His career game highs for points, rebounds and assists are less than Luka’s career averages.

He might be good or he might be Josh Green 2.0. But he will never be Luka.

I think this is the league trying to make Lakers - Celtics fun to watch again I guess.

But damn the NBA is STRUGGLING lol

I said at the time when Cuban sold the team he must have gotten himself into debt of some sort. I wonder if this trade is about hurting Cuban as much as anything else

It's an up and down sport that gets very very repetitive.  My least favorite of the big 4 as a sport.  I didn't really love Luka (loved Dirk of course).  Recognized and massively respected the talent but there has always been a piece missing with him and frankly he can be a bitch.  That said he is one of the most talented guys to ever play the game.  At least Herschel Walker this shit

All of this.  I did not enjoy rooting for Luka the way that I did Dirk.  I can easily see him becoming a player I hate, especially if he told the Mavs that we would not sign a new contract with them.  What will be interesting is whether LeBron's work ethic, especially when it comes to taking care of himself, will have any impact on Luka.

The Mavs and Luka were really the only reason why I turned on the tv during nba season.  Now it’s really gonna be a long death knoll between Super Bowl and fall workouts in football

I've always been a Cuban fan/defender, but it's become crystal clear that he sold us out to an awful family. I was having a hard enough time with that before this shit. Now, I can't imagine ever rooting for them again. But then you have guys on the team still (for the next few days anyway) that I absolutely love like Ky, PJ, Gaff, D-Live. They don't deserve any hate whatsoever, but here we are.

Hell, I told my son this morning to feel free to root for the fucking Lakers if he wants. The fucking Lakers. Maybe that will change as more info comes out, but the bullshit spin Nico is already feeding the press leads me to believe it's all them and not Luka. If it was Luka they'd be saying he wanted out from the jump.

The Mavs ain’t the Cowboys, people will stop showing up, the franchise is all but dead now. I honestly don’t think it’s hyperbole. Especially if it’s true that the family are Lakers fans and engineered this to help them be good again. It would ordinarily merit a massive investigation and criticism from Silver but we all know he’s good with it maybe even helped. It’s unfathomable to even think that an owner would sell out their own franchise to a competitor because of a childhood fandom. The lack of return is what makes this whole think just incredibly suspicious.

l’ve always been a spurs fan first and Mavs second except for 2011, but this move makes me feel really sorry for Mavs fans and not excited that it should benefit the spurs slightly by taking one team out of the long term race for the top of the West.

You know what Miriam Adelson likes more than the Lakers? Money. She did this for pure monetary reasons. Now what exactly those are, I haven’t a clue at this point but she’s got her fingers in a lot of pies.

This.  Fuck Cuban.  He got his Championship and a big pile of money and turned the franchise over to fucking assholes that don't understand anything about sports or sports fandom.  I have no doubt that he's shocked and pissed off about this move, but he enabled it after selling the fanbase on loyalty for his entire tenure.

I'm sure McMahon would be happy to.

He would be the most likely candidate, given his recent history, which includes some clashes with Luka.  That said, that piece would be so much easier to write if the Mavs had gotten something more substantial in return.  In this case, it's gonna have to be full John Gotti style middle of the street assassination type stuff.

Like "we have learned that Mavericks leadership were concerned with reports that Luka Doncic strangled puppies to death with his bare hands in his spare time" bad

This feels like someone moved the Mavs to another city. I can't think of anything else to compare it.

I wish they would go ahead and do it at this point.

When the Adelsons bought this team, I felt it was an angle on the potential for Casino Gambling in DFW, and moving the team to Vegas was plan B. Now that it appears the Dunn/Wilkes wing of the GOP*  apparently won't allow casinos anytime soon alienating the fans will make moving easier, so phase I is complete.

*DON'T give me the "NO CR" bullshit, it's relevant to this moment.

Nico just said Luka gave no indication he wanted out or wouldn't sign an extension moving forward. He also said the Lakers were they only team he talked to. He's saying this directly into a microphone.

Just a stunning level of incompetence. After all the trades he’s done so well the last couple years, this just makes zero sense.

They gave him away. On purpose.

In terms of lopsidedness, this deal is a thousand times more voidable than Paul to the Lakers.

No CR here, but anyone who objectively follows the Legislature would know that casinos have never been close, it's not a priority in the short 6 month session and there is definitely a portion of the R's that would never vote for it under any circumstances. You gotta figure the Adelson's were aware of this.

On paper pau to the lakers looked like a landslide. Memphis got Marc for a few years of good basketball but LA had already won their championship I believe so
