Not a criticism of Godfather II but a what if. I’ve read that The original script had no Frank pantangeli  but it was Clemenza originally in that slot.  Richard Castellano made some demands that were rejected and refused, and died offscreen.  I think The pivot to Pantangeli was masterfully written and was perfectly acted.  The scene between him and Tom at the prison was powerful stuff.  But what if it had been Clemenza in those scenes?  Different but I’m doubtful they’re better.

Andy Dufresne is beating on the giant sewer pipe in time with the thunder and when he breaks through a huge column of shit water shoots up 10 feet in the air, but when he sticks his head in the hole there’s only a few inches of sewage in the pipe that he crawls through until it dumps into that creek. How is an open pipe pressurized?

Shawshank, when he busts a hole in the sewer main to escape. Huge geyser of shit water...nope. Sewer main/ building drain is gravity flow. The only way it's pressurized like that is if it's plugged up downstream and holding back 3-4 floors of head.

It was dramatic though.

You seem to know your shit

Assuming we're talking about a 77 T/A.  The 455 was no longer available.  Engine choices were a Pontiac 400 that made 185 and an Olds 403 (the subsequent 6.6) that made 180.  The Pontiac made 325 ft-lbs of torque, though.

The Oldsmobile engines suffered mightily under emission controls, moreso for their displacement than other GM engines.

it's by no means my favorite movie but an entertaining as hell one...

but in the updated version of the thomas crown affair with brosnon, the most critical part of the heist of the monet in the first act of the movie is walking out with it in his briefcase that was also the heater to raise the temperature in the impressionism room. the monet did not fit into the transport briefcase and it would have required folding and breaking the stretcher that the canvas was on in order to close the suitcase. the shot of him loading it in the suitcase cuts away right before he goes to close the suitcase and walk out of the room.

always irritated the ever loving shit out of me. the whole god damned movie was predicated on this moment. just make the fictitious painting smaller you assholes.

scene in question...the moment i am talking about is from 1:55-2:00 below.

Moonraker is your favorite movie?

Favorite Bond and favorite goon of his era.  And also note the plural in the title.

I thought it was a loop the loop.

At the end of Office Space I get that the fire burned up the confession but it was a computer crime, wouldn’t the evidence still exist and the investigation continue? It can’t be that every balance and electronic record of transfers and deposits just ceased to exist. There was real money at issue.

Which should be unnecessary anyway because the universe is essentially infinite with infinite resources.

You have to remember how old that movie is. All the servers and data that had the evidence were likely in a small, badly-ventilated closet in that very building. Backups were probably in a drawer in a filling cabinet. Having things on servers in data centers someone else ran wasn't very common for businesses of that size back then.

Bridge scene?  Tom Hanks taking pop shots with his 1911?  P51's were not tank busters.  They carried either rockets (not hurting a Tiger tank) or 500lb GP bombs - that on impact or a proximal impact, turns Hanks into grape jelly.

things that bother me are typically small script issues, not plot stuff. there could be a 500 page thread about movie plotholes. stfu and enjoy your popcorn, it's a movie.

here are a couple that bother me when i hear/see them.

in jerry maguire, during the cardinals v cowboys game when cuba gooding gets hurt, one of the announcers (gifford?) says something like "well, at a time like this, you just hope his family is not watching this."

ok, i know he's not an actor, but come on. it's the end of the season, cardinals are hot, challenging the cowboys for the division, he's the star player having a breakout season, and they're playing a close game on monday night football. yeah, his family probably has a lot going on, they'll just read about it in the paper the next day.

another one is old school. they have a big party, and it's clearly friday night. will ferrell talks about how he can't drink because he has "a nice little saturday" planned in the famous bb&b/home depot scene. then the next day, everybody is back at the office, kids (both high school and college) are back in class. it's a fucking saturday and it's not that hard to write it that way.

also, for the "a few good men" mentions, he didn't need the big payoff to win the case. he had the two conflicting orders - that's where jessup got caught. "sometimes men take matters into their own hands", "no, you made it clear your men never take matters into their own hands, your men follow orders or people die."

In The Godfather, when Sonny blurted out his question about Tattagilia guaranteeing their investment, it didn't seem to me that it was evidence that Sonny was necessarily interested in the deal.  It could have meant the opposite--that he was skeptical of the deal.  I always thought there may have been a deleted scene.  Or maybe it didn't matter what he said, just that he spoke up at all.  Kind of wonder whether Sonny should have even attended the meeting in the first place and that Vito should have known better to include him.

I always have thought it was stupid that they tried to kill Vito after Sonny slipped up at the meeting.  Did they really think Sonny's alleged willingness to get involved with drugs would override his father being murdered?  He was just gonna show up after the funeral and say "hey guys not cool.  but anyways how bout them drugs?"  I never got it.

Jerry McGuire was a terrible movie.

Will never understand the love for it.

Should have been a Hallmark movie.

John McClane’s handwriting “Now I have a machine gun” in blood on the bad guy’s t shirt is perfect. Perfectly sized, spaced, straight, and way too legible to have been written with what, his finger?

I don’t think it was written in blood, was it? I thought he looked over and saw a bunch of Christmas decorations, including a red marker

I think Barzini implicates Solozzo and they allow the Corleone's to take him out. Sonny wasn't smart enough to know any better. Maybe Tom would sniff it out.

First you trash A Christmas Story and now Jerry Maguire?

Can't wait for your takes on It's A Wonderful Life and Shawshank Redemption, you soulless beast.

But yeah I do agree on Jerry Maguire. It was garbage.

Luke's torpedoes into the Death Star exhaust port take an unrealistic bend into the opening after being shot perpendicular to the port from quite some distance away.  I mean, why not just come straight at it and shoot into the exhaust port from above and avoid the whole "trench run"?

(other than the fact it was cool and was a great video game sequence)

I’m sorry, didn’t you hear how Luke used to bullseye womp rats in his T-16 back home? Also quite the assumption that these made up space ships that can travel through hyperspace have weapons that operate within your understanding of physics.

The torpedoes had to be drawn towards the exhaust, they do make an arc.

I thought Vader's fighter was a shallow choice.  The TIE fighters have zero armor and rely on speed.  So the Empire put their top field commander alone in a vulnerable ship and distinguished it so everyone would know which to shoot at.

If Luke had a T-16, why the fuck didn't they just fly that off of Tatooine?

Star Wars has an answer for everything....they've become very good at backfilling

T-16 Skyhopper

A high-performance airspeeder capable of reaching a planet’s troposphere, T-16 skyhoppers were fast and maneuverable – a combination that could be dangerous for young pilots. Luke Skywalker owned a two-man skyhopper, but burned out the instrumentation during a reckless trip through Beggar’s Canyon. He was left to play idly with a model of his beloved craft until he could make the T-16 airworthy again. The controls of a T-16 were similar to those of a T-65 X-wing, which allowed Luke to join the rebel attack on the Death Star at Yavin.
