Can't leave out Jelani McDonald's great physical effort.  Nice job by DT's in this game too.  Vandy was only 3 for 12 on 3rd down -- and several 3 and outs!!!

That was stupid. I meant McDonald. No idea where Roberson came from, maybe I thought this was the special teams penalties thread

Yeah. I don't have a lot more to say on the offensive issues that hasn't already been expressed in some way.

The defense played a really strong game today. What Vanderbilt got, they earned. The defense is a nationally elite unit that will keep Texas in every game and will likely win a couple more outright like it did this one. Wish it didn't have to, but the fact that it can is pretty cool.

I think all of Vandy’s drives were 30 or so yards, except the last one at the end of the game…those tipped passes interceptions gave them great opportunities…Quinn needs to stop those tips…somehow.

Yea, think I saw somewhere on Twitter that the defense has given up 1 score from a drive >40 yards the past 2 games

"Good" Quinn at this point is completing a 5 yard pass to pre determined receiver based on the defensive look and that receiver makes the plays.  The "Good" Quinn that was elite against Bama hasn't been seen since that game.

Quinn’s only as good as the offensive line doing their job.

Execution should be the word of the bye week!!
defense is championship level!! Offense can get there because we’ve seen it!! Special teams has to get better

This team still hasn’t played its best ball and that’s the best part about all of this.  I saw glimpses of Quinn getting back to his oldself. The running game looked really good and the O-Line is definitely run blocking better than pass blocking,, good thing though we have a veteran group who has shown they can do it, we just need to execute, communication has to be better as well as clean up the penalties .  We have some gamers at wideout and Deandre Moore & Gunner Helm are pleasant surprises. We’ve shown flashes we just have to put it all together.

Texas should have won that game yesterday 51-17 IYKYK

Rewatching the game now.

-I know it infuriates @BurntOrange&White but Michael Taaffe is going to play in the NFL.

-We probably lost about 50 rushing yards due to stupid holding penalties, several of which were iffy at best

-Pass pro was more of an issue than run blocking to the point above. Rough few weeks for Cam Williams.

-The 1H sack where a guy ran free between Conner and Majors was definitely on Jaydon Blue.

-This RB group has in the bottom half of the SEC. If a play is blocked for 4 yards, they get you 3 before tripping on a blade of grass. They also are guilty of contributing on a couple of the holding penalties where they needlessly ran around their blocking.

-Best game Trey Moore has played all year.

-Pavia’s first run went for 18 yards (TD). His next 15 carries went for 49 yards. Completely controlled his legs.

-Not going to the portal for a punter was egregious. We win this game by 17 if Ryan Sanborn is on this team.

-Warren Roberson needs to be removed from special teams until further notice. 3 penalties in the return game in 2 games.

Thank you for taking one for the team by re-watching that.

Nashville is a great city and I’ll go to every football game we play there.   if I was in my 20’s and out of college , I’d live there in a minute.  Feels like a cleaner, newer Austin.

Nashville crime rate is actually much higher than Austin.  I think the city and their police might do a better job keeping the tourist areas clean though, but the locals still complain.

Section S row 49, my nuts were splitting the 50.  The stadium amenities were a joke, very few consessions.  Missed 2nd half KO waiting for beer, of which you could only get 2 at a time , so we had to pair up for every round (4 in our party).  Had to go back in Q3 for the pisser,  not the end of world.

Entrance into stadium was a breeze.  Got a pre game picture with  The Rocket at the Marriott next to stadium.  Exited behind the Texas Visitors side and the route took us through the outfield of the baseball field which was cool. Walked all the way back to barstools for bar food and to meet up with our ladies.

Broadway was a major tourist trap but all the bars were packed, 3-4 stories each  and seemed fine for what they are.  There is very little “country music “ played on Broadway, nor any “2 -steppin” establishments.  It’s all rock and roll, dj, club feel.  Closest thing we could find to a traditional county bar was tootsies and it was tiny (in the front room), maybe we missed them  , but we hit up 5-8 bars over the weekend hoping to do a little dancin’

34th floor of JW was great.  Went to a cool hotel rooftop bar,  LA Jackson,  in the Gulch before dinner at Barcelona.  Hampton Social for brunch pre-game.  Walked from there to stadium , where we saw Rodger and one of his boys drinking beers.

overall great trip.

Is that BBQ joint that has all the Longhorn gear still there?

I remember this board being ecstatic with any kind of win. Good times. . .

Sometimes I wonder if this board remembers the Houston, K-State, TCU, and Iowa State games from *checks notes* last season.

Expectations are higher this season, and rightfully so.

I agree, but the OL did him no favors here. That includes the RB's when charged with protection duties too. Jake Majors completely whiffed a pass rusher, like immediately so, on the first tipped pass. It wasn't like the guy was on the other side of the LOS and managed to bat it down. He was in his face very suddenly. That's not on him or his throwing angle either.

The second one I'd like to have seen Quinn react and use his feet to adjust to or evade the rusher.

We just seem like the same team and didn't learn anything from last year, even after adding a top 5 class. Sark is still scared for Quinn to make any mistakes. I don't care who starts at QB (Quinn, Arch, whomever) we need a reset and Sark needs to stop calling pussy plays. We don't need to throw the deep ball to be successful.

Quin at one point was like 17 for 17 after the 1st pic.  Late in the game he hit a pass to convert 3rd and 19.

Quin's biggest issue yesterday aside from the tipped balls and at times holding the ball too long, was our RBs wiffing on blitz pickup.

Man, I really wish CJ was playing right now.

I also wonder if these guys are still self-doubting.  Sure a lot of the busts and malcontents have attracted, but these guys are not far removed from really shitty and pretty marginal seasons.

We exorcised some demons last year, but it was in the Big XII and not the big, bad SEC and I wonder if some of the players are still doubting enough to get headfucked.

Not excusing Majors, but that was not easy. Vandy brought double A gap blitz from the ILBs. #10 came on the delay. Majors helped the guard on #4 blitzing (who went right Majors by design) and came off late to get a piece on #10 (right A/B gap). With RG widening out with the DT, it left a lot of room for the delay blitz. Nice cut by the RB to avoid contact with #10 on the play. I dont think he has much pass protection responsibility on that, but being a football player would have been helpful there (not easy though).

What do you mean by "22 film"?

yeah all 22 film is the camera angles where you can see all 22 players on the field. You can see all the routes the receivers are running and the endzone all 22 angles makes it easier to see line play (I have a harder time parsing line play from the game angle). NFL All-22 film is available with an NFL+ subscription and is great, but college football All 22 film is treated like it's classified intelligence. It's pretty annoying.

Thought our D played really well, especially considering Vandy's all upperclassmen OL. The backup QB is a burner.  The trick play on 4th down was clever and would have worked if the WR had his shoulders square with LOS.   I didnt realize that was a thing.

Game could have turned on the Ant Hill dropped INT.  Think they scored on that drive, he got a hand on it and looked like he could have secured it.  The roughing on our DL was huge too, that makes the game look more lopsided.  Overall pleased with the W.  On the long ball to the left, that was ugly, looked like he threw it to the outside and our WR was more inside, looked like a duck.

Texas gave up 14 points on short fields after turnovers and 10 points on end of half/game situations so the only real complaint is that Pete K just doesn't understand that rushing 3 and dropping everyone else deep at the end of the half or game is a shit plan that leads to points.

One of the stat gurus, Parker Fleming (@statsowar on Twitter) has a quality possession measure that goes beyond redzone. His definition of quality possession is reaching at least the opposing 40 or scoring a long touchdown. He hasn't updated his numbers yet this week, but entering the Vandy game Texas was 2nd in quality possessions allowed and 2nd in points per quality possession. I still think the best offenses Texas is going to face are on the back end of the schedule, but thus far it has been extremely hard to drive the ball and turn long drives into points against the Texas defense. That side of the ball has been solid.

Yeah, PK prevent defense struggles...

it wasnt that bad. Actually brought 5 rushers out of the 3 DL look, if I recall. The only one I hated was the double spy look on 3rd and 10 (bringing 2 in the rush). I believe that was the only one he brought less than 4 on that drive, but I didnt go back and look.

if that pick 6 doesn't get called back this game thread has a completely different feel.    / captain obvious

Sounds like you guys had a good time.  Took my GF (huge UT girl) for both of our first trips to Nashville.   Our seats were 10th row of Section R; we were behind the bench on the (left) 40.   That's a tight stadium and seating - it was packed, but we'd been warned ahead of time, so made it okay.  Got some pregame drinks at The Local and then walked across the street to the game.   The beer/bathroom situation is a bitch with all the lines, but it was alright.  Where did you see Clemens?   That'd have been awesome.

A quiet walk from the stadium afterward didn't really feel like a win, but luckily we escaped that place with the W.  After the game, we walked down to Broadway - set up in AJ's and their bar bands were alright and playing some older country, but being hit up by the bands for tips gets old.  By the time we left there, we stopped at the food trucks outside of Barstool - what a shitshow that was..

Amazing food we had at Harper's Steakhouse Friday night and then yesterday brunch at a place called Mockingbird, I'd highly recommend either for anyone headed to Nashville.

The main reason I responded - talking about living in Nashville.   I'm in my mid-40's, took my gf for her birthday trip.   We were in BNA waiting on our flight yesterday evening, both of us were exhausted, spun out feeling and all around trying to wrap our heads around the weekend.  I asked my gf, "so, what'd you think?"   She responded that it was crazy, but fun.  And then immediately said with a smile,  "I'd definitely come back!".  She'd said on Saturday, that was the first time she'd felt "at home" since moving from SA almost 20 years ago.   That place is crazy, but it's a good time.   It's very much like a mix of Austin and NoLa - but cleaner and safer than both.    In a different world, I could see me living there as well.  Looks like there's always stuff to do and overall, a really nice city.  Likewise, I'll definitely go back if/when UT plays at Vandy again.
