Texas vs Vanderbilt - 3:15pm on the SEC Network

Our defense fucks so hard. Hill is a machine, and Sorrell is a dude you don't want to toy with. Saw him make this 360 turn on one of their linemen and it was a thing of beauty, right up there with Hill blowing up their player on the sidelines. His sideline to sideline speed is incredible. He's a sure fire first rd pick.

Rookie move. PTO on Monday after a trip, every time.

I know..   I'm a PM for a large sitework/development company.  Mondays are big around here, from a scheduling / "who broke what over the weekend?" standpoint.   If I had any way out of it, I would.    It's not so bad though - I'm in the home stretch, here on the east coast.

Question:

Does PK not run a bunch of twists and stunts? If not, how can the OL prep for stuff like if they don't see it very often in practice? Same for blitzes. Obviously not calling out the D - they've been awesome! Just curious how our OL can get better if they don't see it live in practice very often. I know with upcoming dual-threat QBs that the D will face, offense has someone in practice simulate that. But how do you simulate what's confusing the OL if the D line isn't about those concepts?

The second team defense runs a dummy version of the opponent's defense in practice against the first team offense. So if Vandy runs a lot of stunts and blitzes, then our starting offense will see a lot of stunts and blitzes in practice in the week leading up to the game. It's the reverse for the first team defense, who runs our defense against a dummy version of the opponent's offense.

Just because PK doesn't run those schemes doesn't mean they're alien to him or the rest of the staff. The chief issue is that our second string defense is probably not as good at running those schemes as Vandy's first team defense is, so the look our guys get doesn't quite prepare them for the game speed. That's part of why it's important to have talent at depth - iron sharpens iron. The better our second string defense is, the better they prepare of first string offense.

I have a co-worker who is a Nashville local and Vandy fan.  Apparently the narrative amongst some portion of the Vandy fanbase is that they were robbed because of the "bad call" on the 4th down illegal procedure and the lack of a PF on Jelani McDonald pulling the receiver back onto the field to try and keep him from going out of bounds. I brought up the 5 to 1 holding penalty ratio and he straight-faced told me that they don't hold.

Gerry’s football takes are often pretty bad. Glass houses.

On OTF, Gerry was dismissive of South Carolina's EDGE's ability to slow down A&M next week. This can only mean that they'll shut down the Aggies. I'd like to congratulate the Gamecocks on their upcoming victory.

Ah - makes really good sense - thanks for the info!

Not having watched Vanderbilt before this, I don't know if they previously ran shifts and stunts. But I'd expect everyone too until we prove we can handle them simply because it has been effective for OU and Georgia.

Hopefully PK and Nansen make some changes to defend that, since everyone has seen our tape. We'll smoke UF, but Arky does worry me for Quinn's soft mindset. Will it carry over from Georgia? We'll see. They aren't particularly good, but unlike aggy's "home field" adva, Arky actually has one. They're moonshine before dark insane.

I've tempered my thoughts on Kentucky, tho, so that's a win for me.

I highly advise you don’t give any more tips about where you work on this site.  Just trust me on this one…..

Are Florida, Aggie, and Arky all running QBs?

That is a curious comment by him.  Their edges are really good.  The problem will be SC's offense.  They could not run the ball against OU's defense.   I don't seem them running it on A&M, and their freshman QB is kind of a project throwing the ball.  I think they will have to get multiple turnovers to win.

Have they beat the aggies since joining the sec?

only once in 2022. 30-24 in columbia.

agros have won all other 8 matchups (all in sec play). they fucking own them. since 2019, other than the loss in 2022, they have crushed them in the other games. average score of 38-10.

they got lucky with South Carolina as the cross over prior to this year.. and ofc avoiding Georgia the most of any old SEC east teams

I feel like we just played the best dual threat qb in Pavia as far as run and throw altogether. Our defense wasn’t to bad. Plays will be made but I think we can hold up on all these running qbs. I’m only worried about our offensive slow starts in these road games. We should just run the ball and punt on our first drives if they can stop it. It’ll keep the defense from having to be sudden change 1st drive like these last few weeks. Fuckin a

it's not just south carolina...it's their entire former eastern division scheduling since they have been in the sec. in 12 years, they have played georgia the same number of times we have in four weeks of sec conference play. the teams from the east they have played by number of times up to this year:

south carolina - 10

missouri - 5

florida - 4

vanderbilt - 3

tennessee - 3

kentucky - 1

georgia - 1

and this year, they somehow avoided all of georgia, tennessee, ole miss, and alabama.

Nit sure about Lagway, but Arky has a running QB, and if aggy goes with Reed, he's another. But Reed is highly inconsistent. As is Taylor Green, but he's a good runner. Not to mention JQJ is a helluva RB. If we can live up to our potential, we *should* win by 17, but lets temper expectations until see how Ewers does against UF. If he can bounce back against them, I like our chances, regardless of oppoment. It may get his confidence back and we'll go from there

I feel like the Georgia game kicked everyone in the nuts including the team. Not physically but mentally. Wake up call type shit. I think the vandy game was great for the team to reset mentally and get a win in the process. I’d be shocked if they didn’t get better and finish strong. Vandy was our slump buster so to say.

Yep, they have an easy schedule and what tough games they have are at Kyle. This year just worked their way.

Nashville is safer than Austin? Seems dubious.

Less homeless in tourist areas. Nashville has murder rates similar to DC and Atlanta. Probably hovers in Top 25. Im guessing their meth and opiate abuse is greater than Austin.

Nashville also is one of the least walkable cities with poor public transportation so that would make it challenging for longterm homeless populations from moving around and sticking in tourist locations.
