Ticket prices dropped to $26 to get in so 2 tickets bought in section 12. Anybody else going to be out there?  Hard to place a bet without ever seeing either team, but I'll probably lay a few bucks on the Horns.

The offensive chemistry early is going to be interesting to watch. Only one basketball and a lot of guys who were the primary scorers at their previous stops + Tre Johnson being added to the mix.

I won't miss our lineups featuring Brock Cunningham, Dillon Mitchell and IT Horton trying to play offensive basketball together.

Hoops season is here: No. 19 Texas vs. Ohio State Game Thread

The 2024-25 college basketball season is here. Tonight in Las Vegas, the No. 19 ranked Texas Longhorns will take on an Ohio State team considered to be a top 30 level team in the country. Two NCAA Tournament level teams play to start the season.

There are two headlines tonight for the season opener. One, it's the deb ut of 5-star freshman shooting guard Tre Johnson. The 6-foot-6 scoring guard scored 31 in a closed door scrimmage against Colorado last weekend. He averaged 22.0 in two closed door scrimmages. Two, the availability of senior transfer Tramon Mark. The 6-foot-5 lefty guard is listed as day-to-day headed into the game with a minor ankle sprain suffered prior to the Colorado scrimmage. Mark is considered the best college player on the No. 19 ranked Longhorns team. He averaged 16.2 points per game last season at Arkansas.

Note: This will serve as the preview and game thread.

Hit a nice NFL parlay today. How much of that do I roll into a team I’ve never seen play?

Personally I am waiting to see if Mark is good to go tonight or not.  It is obviously a crap shoot either way, but everything I'm reading, he is going to be the engine.

No Mark means Tre will score 40. Got it...thanks guys!

Getting excited.  Definitely the most unique season opener I will have been to.

Right there with you.  I know myself and I will give in and play something on the Horns, it's just the way I roll.

Looking forward to seeing how they defend Thorton/Johnson. Diebler seemed to be able to connect with Thorton much better than Holtmann did. Texas won't see very many better 1/2 punches in the backcourt for a while.

Here's a writeup from a tOSU site I stumbled across. This dude's expectations for our squad rival any I've seen, lulz.

Prediction

I do think Texas will win this game, but it is not because I have too many questions about Ohio State. It’ more that I just really like this Texas team.

So much, in fact, that I have in them in my preseason Final Four. They have some chemistry work to do as well, but as long as Rodney Terry gets this team to mesh early, the Longhorn offense is going to be impossible to stop.

Match that up with Ohio State, which still has some early concerns on the defensive end, and I think this will be a scoring matchup that Texas wins in the end. But both teams are top-20 talents in the nation.

I'll throw a small bet down on the horns because why the fuck not. Hoping my book puts out some player props on our game to see their projection  for Tre, but so far they only have individual props for the Baylor/Zags game.

*CHRIS BEARD POST ALERT, HIDE YOUR WIVES AND CHILDREN*

one of the signs that a guy is a top tier coach is when his disciples can’t do the things that he was best at even half as well as he did/does. our three point defense under beard was outstanding, and at its peak it was every bit as good as sampson’s u of h teams. i really thought we’d be better at defending the three under terry, but we just haven’t been.
