A Yankee loss in the World Series and now this. Baseball orgasm is complete.

Too bad he didn’t take an early retirement … in September.

The teenager, who assumed the name Cesar Altagracia, verbally agreed to sign with the Padres for about $4 million, a substantial bonus that signified he was considered one of the top international prospects in his class. The transaction would have become official in January 2027, once Altagracia became eligible to sign as a 16-year-old international free agent.

I'm not understanding why he said he was 14, which means two years until he can get paid.

Well @Beau Vine, guess we know why Vogt wouldn't catch him now.

Guardians utilityman David Fry was known to be receiving consultation about a lingering right elbow injury, and MLB.com’s Mandy Bell reports that Fry had to undergo a surgery to correct the issue.  Fry will need 12 months to return to action as a fielder, so he’ll be limited to DH duty for the entirety of the 2025 season.  Even in that case, Fry will need 6-8 months just to return as a designated hitter, so he’ll be sidelined for at least the start of next season.

Dick Allen, Dave Parker and Luis Tiant are among eight men on the ballot for the baseball Hall of Fame's classic era committee that meets Dec. 8 at the winter meetings in Dallas.

Tommy John, Steve Garvey and Ken Boyer are also on the ballot along with former Negro Leaguers John Donaldson and Vic Harris, the Hall said Monday. The classic era committee considers players, managers, umpires and executives whose greatest contributions to the sport were before 1980.

The identities of the 16 voters will be announced closer to the meeting, and 75% of the vote is needed for election. Anyone chosen will be inducted next July 27 along with players voted in by the Baseball Writers' Association of America, whose balloting will be announced Jan. 21.

Parker, John and Garvey are the living candidates. Tiant died Oct. 8 at 83.

Unfortunately I agree with him to a point and said as much in the threads....the worst NL team was better than any AL team when it came down to the 4 mentioned.   I wouldn't have went as low as 8, but the AL sucked donkey boner this season.

What does that have to do with the World Series?

And then he'll wind up back in RF yet again.

Eight-time All-Star Mookie Betts is likely to move back to the infield, manning second base or shortstop for the World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers in 2025, general manager Brandon Gomes said Wednesday.

"It could be second, it could be short. We don't really know yet," Gomes said from the annual GM meetings. "We need to continue to have those conversations. But I think it's much more like, 'Hey, Mookie's looking to get back in the infield' than anything else.

"I know the toll on the body is less in the infield for him. So you can make arguments on both sides of it. But the beauty of Mookie is it's the most selfless superstar we've ever been around. And that permeates through the team."

LOL that Rays are "checking in" on Soto.  I'm also "checking in" on Aubrey Plaza and Margot Robbie.

Their owner is pretty close to being a billionaire. Like all other MLB teams that operate on a shoestring budget, they do so by choice

This could work

Fried was spotted having dinner with a handful of Dodgers on Saturday night in Los Angeles. Among the group was his high school teammate Jack Flaherty, first baseman Freddie Freeman, shortstop Miguel Rojas, reliever Daniel Hudson, second baseman Gavin Lux, right fielder Mookie Betts, and utility man Tommy Edman.

Looking forward to the hysterics when the Dodgers sign Roki Sasaki from Japan, simply because they schmoozed him for years, and saved their int'l free agent bonus allotment so have the most to offer by far.

The Miami Marlins are hiring former Los Angeles Dodgers first-base coach Clayton McCullough as their new manager, a source familiar with the situation told ESPN on Sunday.

McCullough, 44, spent the past four seasons on Dave Roberts' coaching staff in L.A., the last of which ended in a championship. He succeeds Skip Schumaker, who was not brought back at the end of his contract and has since joined the Texas Rangers' front office as a senior adviser to president of baseball operations Chris Young.

A career minor league catcher, McCullough managed in the Toronto Blue Jays' minor league system from 2007 to 2013, finishing six of those seasons with winning records. He was then hired by the Dodgers as their minor league field coordinator, at which point he worked under current Marlins assistant general manager Gabe Kapler.

The Dodgers promoted McCullough to their major league coaching staff in 2021, inserting him as their first-base coach while having him work with outfielders and placing him in charge of their baserunning program. In 2024, McCullough played a big part in helping Shohei Ohtani evolve as a base stealer, paving the way for the first 50/50 season in baseball history.

Taking first in the dumbshit award continues to go to Wander Franco.

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco was arrested Monday in San Juan de la Maguana, 100 miles west of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic after what two police sources said was an altercation Sunday in the parking lot of an apartment complex in which guns were drawn.

Police sources confirm that Franco and an unnamed woman are being held for questioning following the incident.

What a shame.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- A detailed assessment of the hurricane damage to Tropicana Field concludes that the home of the Tampa Bay Rays is structurally sound and can be repaired for about $55.7 million in time for the 2026 season.

The 412-page report released Tuesday by the city of St. Petersburg, which owns the building, found that the basic structure of the domed stadium "does not appear to have been adversely affected" by Hurricane Milton's winds, which shredded most of its fabric roof.

"The primary structure is serviceable and capable of supporting a replacement tension membrane fabric roof," said the report by Hennessy Construction Services.
