The dodgers Japanese pipeline is such bullshit. Is there even much of a flight time difference to Japan from non-California cities? It’s on the other side of the world. I don’t get why they’re all so fixated on playing on the West Coast

Nearly half of U.S. Asians (45%) live in the West, with nearly a third (30%) in California alone. California had an Asian population of roughly 6.7 million in 2019, by far the nation’s largest. It was followed by New York (1.9 million), Texas (1.6 million), New Jersey (958,000) and Washington (852,000).

If I was a regular person moving from Japan, yes I’d probably prefer living in a place like Cali or Hawaii. But these are superstar athletes. They don’t interact with everyday people. Ichiro and Matsui loved playing in NY, and I assume they loved living there too.

You ever been out to SoCal?  It's pretty nice and as someone else pointed out, it's teeming with Asians.  Not a majority, but they definitely don't stand out out here.  Nicer weather, nicer scenery, familiar faces and food, fewer how do I say this without CRing it, fewer people blaming you for the Ebola virus.

As for flight time, I'd bet LAX is one of the few airports with a direct to Tokyo

The Dodgers popularity in Japan is off the charts.  Shohei's contract is paying for itself.  And why wouldn't you want to come to play for an organization committed to winning, that is wildly popular in Japan, in a city with a large Japanese population, with teammates you can relate with?  I told the story in the NLCS thread that my son and I got stopped by not one, but two, Japanese news crews getting off the train at Citi Field because we were wearing Dodger gear.  Keep 'em coming!

So the A's will play in a minor league park in Sacramento and the Rays will play at the Yankees Spring Training field. Sadly both are probably an improvement.

And everyone talks about the “evil, greedy” Yankees, yet we have agreed to only charge the Rays $15 million to rent the Tampa stadium. That’s under $200k a game, which is fucking nothing.

Should've played in Oakland.

The fact there this is a dude for one of the Japanese media outlets (newspaper/website) who’s only job is to write a story about Shohei every. single. day. of the year tells you all you need to know about their popularity over there

Rockies offseason off to a tremendous start. The 2025 hype letter issued by the organization was drafted by Bud Black (the manager) because Dick Monfort (the dipshit owner) is too much of a coward to face any blowback.

Oh and Kris Bryant is still under contract for the next 4 years for 108 million and a no trade clause. Fuck me running this organization is a pile of shit.

WTF, how long does it take to replace a tarp roof?  Or what's wrong with playing in an open air trop?

the place was never intended to be exposed to the elements. Nothing is waterproofed inside. I’m sure that’s the bigger issue on the timeline.

They just need to condemn the place and take the measly insurance proceeds and apply it to the Yankees spring training rent for the next two years until the new place is open.

going to lose a lot more money on the mold and other assorted sickness lawsuits. And all for what? 81 games in 2026?

But I, for one, will definitely be rooting for the Rays this year to make it to the ALCS so the Astros can own the Steinbrenner Field in addition to Yankee Stadium

What are the odds this card is still on a shelf waiting to be purchased?
I’m guessing it was first packaged shortly after his debut in May?
Update just got released 11/13

Has over 250 rookies that all made debut and have 1/1s in there.

Be on the lookout for the elusive Blair Henley

Colorado Rockies third baseman Kris Bryant has been reunited with his 2023 Lamborghini Huracan after it was rerouted by thieves on its way to Bryant’s offseason Las Vegas home.

Detective Justin Smith of the Cherry Hills Village Police Department said hackers infiltrated the email system of a carrier company used by a broker that Bryant contacted about transporting the vehicle.

Cherry Hills Village police used license-plate-detecting cameras to track the truck that took the car from Colorado to Nevada, where Las Vegas police arrested a man suspected of being behind in a string of thefts.

“Me, and our chief, and our command staff all take auto theft very seriously, and any time we can get back somebody’s vehicle that’s been stolen, that’s a win for us,” Smith said. “We would treat it no differently if it was someone’s F-150 versus a Lamborghini.”

New models of the 2023 Lamborghini Huracan can retail for more than $340,000, according to Kelley Blue Book. Bryant’s car was also customized in a way that made it easy to identify when it was spotted by a Las Vegas police officer.

The car was picked up from Bryant’s home in Cherry Hills Village on Sept. 29. When it failed to arrive at the athlete’s Vegas home, on Oct. 2, Bryant and his broker both contacted police.

Members of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s auto theft team, U.S. Department of Homeland Security agents and Cherry Hills Village police worked together to find the Lamborghini. The car was spotted Oct. 7, and the driver told police that he owned a maintenance shop and was asked by a Texas man to fix the car’s computer system.

The man was later identified as Dat Viet Tieu and was confronted by police when he arrived at Harry Reid International Airport to pick up the Lamborghini. When police asked how Tieu planned to travel from the airport to the maintenance shop, Tieu directed police to a stolen Jeep that Smith said contained tools used to perpetrate motor vehicle thefts.

Smith said additional suspects have since been arrested in connection with the hacking and related thefts, whose victims also included a player for the Texas Rangers baseball team.

I'm glad Gil won.  I didn't want to see Helo go down the same dark path he went on when Michael Fullmer beat out Gary Sanchez.

Had to Google if Fulmer even plays still. He might need to go into his weird-ass side hustle full time
