Right now they’re all tied to international bonus money. So yeah, when the only difference between signing somewhere is a few hundred thousand or a million I might as well shave a couple hours off the flight home. It’s bullshit that the dodgers get this advantage over everyone else simply by pure luck of franchise location. When the difference can becomes millions or tens of millions of dollars, now other teams have more of a fair shot. Matsui played here, Kuroda, Suzuki, Tanaka, all played here and loved it. I’ve been to both and can’t imagine someone liking LA over NYC. But this new generation of Japanese players won’t give any other teams even a thought now. It’s bad for the game

Oh for fuck's sake.  Compare "franchise location" with fucking Cleveland.  Or Milwaukee.

O'Malley had the balls and brains to move west.  Yankee's could have beaten him to the punch, but they didn't.

And you've been to both?  Neato.   Go to "both" in January and report back.

Nyc is my favorite city in the world.  However, LA has much better weather and a lot of different things to do.  What did you do in LA?

Sasaki has ruled the padres out.  He’s down to Toronto or the Dodgers.  Stay tuned

The Blue Jays acquired $2 million in international signing bonus pool allocation from the Cleveland Guardians that could be used in its pursuit of Japanese pitcher Roki Sasaki as part of a trade Friday that also brought underperforming outfielder Myles Straw to Toronto.

Cleveland will send $3.75 million to the Blue Jays, offsetting some of the $14.75 million Straw is guaranteed for the final two years of a $25 million, five-year contract. The Guardians will receive a player to be named or cash.

Toronto boosted its international signing pool to $8,261,600 and had not signed any players since the 2025 window opened Wednesday, leaving the entire amount available for Sasaki.

It’s heart-warming to see a perennial underdog from a small market like LA land Sasaki. Guys if LA keeps this up they might just field a good team this year. I know, I know that’s crazy talk, but the Little Engine That Could looks like it’s really turning the corner with this signing.

LA has only about 64,000 Japanese and Japanese-American residents combined. A whopping 1.5% of the population. Enjoy being around all those familiar folks Sasaki.

That’s the most in the continental US.  That number doesn’t include OC as well.  There’s also this:

Quite hilarious how a guy from the rgv doesn’t understand why people would want to live in California.

I have a ton of family in Cali (Central Valley/San Jose area). I like it there alright. Is it better than NYC? Fuck no. Yes I’ve never been to NY in the winter but a ball player wouldn’t have to be there then either.
