Tommy John: a mediocre pitcher for a very, very long time.

This fucking asshole thinks he didn't get in the hall of fame in the 90's because he would go on to support a certain candidate for President decades later.

Veteran reliever Aroldis Chapman and the Boston Red Sox are in agreement on a one-year, $10.75 million contract, sources told ESPN, bolstering a Boston bullpen in need of a power left-handed arm.

The deal, which is pending the completion of a physical, adds the hard-throwing Chapman to a bullpen that finished 24th in ERA last season and went into the winter prioritizing late-inning left-handed help.

Chapman, who turns 37 before the coming season, posted a picture of himself in a Red Sox cap on social media.

In 61⅔ innings with Pittsburgh last season, Chapman posted a 3.79 ERA and struck out 98 while walking 39. With an average fastball of 98 mph that topped out at 105, Chapman has maintained top-end velocity and an elite strikeout rate into what will be his 16th major league season.

are vegas evenings cool ?  *never been

Vegas evenings in the summer are "cool" like Fonzie, but they are hotter than fuck as far as weather goes.   I actually love walking around Vegas on a summer night, if dressed appropriately, but I love the desert in general.

Hot and dry, usually with a hot breeze.

Manfred pondering trying to implement “golden at-bat” rule. One at-bat a game where a team can send any player they want to the plate.

I love it personally. I know it’s not “traditional” but if you want to grow the game, get people excited, this would be a BIG draw. Who wants to watch Jose Trevino bat in the 9th with the bases loaded while Juan Soto sits on the bench?

Stugotz from the Dan Lebatard show literally suggested this rule during an interview with Manfred years ago. Manfred acted as if he was crazy and gave it a resounding no. He is now publicly stealing the idea. They're hammering him for it.

The Savannah Bananas already do it and everyone loves it. I assume that where he really got the idea.

"We wanted to make something of a statement coming into a new city and coming into a new ballpark," Forst said. "But more than that, to improve on what we have. Signing someone with Luis's experience to be a leader was important to us."

Severino, a two-time All-Star, toured his new ballpark and clubhouse to get a feel for the location before the news conference. Sutter Health Park is being upgraded to prepare the Triple-A facility for the major leagues.

With the help of his sports agency, Severino said he researched the area to learn more about what it's like in the summer. The deciding factor for Severino was the notion that the organization was going to be a strong family.

"When we talk about family, you talk about my teammates because you're going to be in the same room with the same guys for six months," Servino said. "You need to have that chemistry."

Insane.  The Shohei contract looks like a bargain.  And the Dodgers figured they made $120 million this season just due to Ohtani.  Soto won’t generate shit for extra revenue.  I knew Cohen was going to do something stupid.  And he did.

I mean it makes me wonder how much extra value Ohtani turned down from the Mets. Didn't people report that they never made an official offer because it was too high? What the fuck? If you're willing to give Soto $765M in current money then Ohtani is worth a billion.

None of it is deferred, that deal is worth a LOT more than Ohtani's deal.

That is kind of insane, but I'm sure they expect those last few years to be like a deferment. 51 million a year for 15 years. He's only 26 though, so he still has several prime years ahead of him.  Ohtani counts for 46 million a year towards the luxury tax line, which is not that much higher. Good for the Mets, but they better get some good pitchers if they want to beat the Dodgers when it counts.

And they won’t.  We’ll be better next year.  The Mets may be as good as they were this year.  I’m more worried about the Padres.

The Yankees heel turn on Bregman is going to be hilarious as they pursue and/or sign him. They'd blow Altuve given the chance.

No one in the yankee kingdom wants either of those washed up cheaters. Bergman is in no way being seriously pursued, it’s a smart play by Cashman to drive up his price for the Astros. The Yankees have certain character standards for their players that he does not meet.
