If he decides he wants to be president for life, who has the power to stop him?ย  You think the GOP will do anything but cheer?ย  He will control the military, barring a coup.ย  SCOTUS?ย  He will have appointed 5 of the judges.ย

Then you've got migrants shipped to Ohio that are receiving government assistance. Landlords have been kicking out poor white renters, fixing up their properties and renting them to said migrants. The migrants will then do the jobs the poor white people were willing to do, but for less. It's one thing to take jobs that no one here is willing to do, it's a bit different when we're importing cheaper labor and putting Americans on the street.

That's not at all what happened with the Haitians, if that's what you're referencing. The mayor was pretty damn emphatic about a labor shortage. They were taking jobs poor white people wouldn't. Only to then be targeted by them. But that's Trump's America.ย

If Trump managed to barter or force an end to the war in Ukraine, with little or no involvement, would that be a positive or negative?ย

That allows Ukraine to retain its sovereignty? Obviously a positive. Just like unicorns flying down from rainbows to attend my daughter's bday would be positive.

The people he is talking about are not migrants. They were asylum seekers and the government does have to provide them with some assistance per international treaty if we grant them asylum.

No, dipshit. Do you think anyone could afford to pay $30,000 a month for medication? Do you think if I was already paying that amount that I would be that concerned about the protections of preexisting conditions?

Then Iโ€™m glad you didnโ€™t lie to us you fuck. Anyone can charge whatever the fuck they want to an insurance company and this is the exact cry me a river, over exaggerated bullshit people canโ€™t stand when talking about healthcare.

Counterpoint, Trump and friends aren't the sharpest tools in the drawer.ย  Just lie through your teeth and swear unending loyalty and keep quiet until absolutely necessary.ย  Just watch some old Rudy press conferences as study guides for the vetting process...although you can probably do without the bad hair dye and flatulence.

Holy shit. I know who you are now. You think the prices Iโ€™m charged by the pharmaceutical and insurance companies are up to me? Youโ€™re a fucking moron. I have no control over the cost of the drugs that I am forced to take to stay alive. Fuck you again you stain on the world.ย

Well, to be precise, most recent Haitian "immigrants" (you're right they're not really immigrants), have Temporary Protected Status, which is not a pathway to permanent residency or to citizenship.ย  We mostly exclude from most government "welfare" benefits those whose immigration status is less than permanent resident.

You're probably right. Most of us in non-vulnerable communities, generally speaking, will be mostly fine. But we're banking on Trump being an incompetent liar, correct? I posted this in another thread, but it fits here:

ย

I get it, man. We're all blowing this "threat to democracy" thing out of proportion, and maybe none of our fears will transpire if Trump is reelected (you know, just like Dobbs). But, for that to be the case, you have to believe one of three things:ย

1) Trump doesn't mean, or is lying, about virtually everything he says. Because he blatantly says anti-Democratic shit every day. So nothing be says should be taken at face value. Who gets to decide what he does mean?

2) Trump and co. are too incompetent to carry out any of their radical agenda. Cool, sounds like someone who should be given the Presidency again with nothing but his sycophants this time at his side.ย

3) We have checks and balances in place to restrain his more competent attempts at fascist tendencies. Why the fuck do we have to keep testing our system to the absolute limit to see what breaks?

I really didn't like her as a candidate andย  had hoped for the mini Primary. Pelosi apparently thought the same. It's possible it wouldn't have mattered who the candidate was. Would Josh Shapiro have won? Gavin Newsome? What's hard for me to wrap my head around is how we all convinced ourselves Kamala was doing great and running the rest campaign she could while apparently falling completely flat with the electorate. Again, considering the ledge and all, probably wouldn't have mattered at all.ย

I think you are missing the point of how stressful and how trapped you would feel as an individual who's life legitimately depends on your health insurance continuing to pay for a medicine that is keeping you alive. His entire family is deeply affected by the possibility of ACA being repealed and then him being dropped off of any coverage and uninsurable due to his pre-existing condition. As soon as he doesn't have insurance he dies or has to come up with 30k/mo just to have a shot at living.ย

Could you even imagine your dread if you were in that situation?ย

Yeah, WTF. His situation could change overnight and then his family is facing crippling debt to pay for meds to keep him alive. My FIL has some
form of congestive heart failure. He did pretty well as a dentist for 50 years but now that heโ€™s retired and on Medicaid, itโ€™s a yearly battle to get one particularly expensive medication that is five figures a month covered by his insurance. Thereโ€™s no way he could afford the monthly payment out of pocket for this medication otherwise.

Biden didn't give them many options. Biden had absolutely zero shot post the debate (and probably similar before the debate, if we're being honest). Seriously, imagine him having to come out and speak in front of crowds on a regular basis down the stretch of this campaign. His cratered approval was going to start any replacement candidate in a hole. They chose what seemed to be the least shitty option. It is what it is.

I'm glad my wife is sleeping peacefully right now. I have to be in the office extremely early this morning. An employee died yesterday evening and it will be a horrific morning breaking the news to the team, dealing w/ HR to get answers for his family, etc.

I'm not going to be here to comfort my wife when she wakes up and promise her that everything will be ok . I don't know that I believe it myself.
