Sadly, this. Not even blaming Trump when China does. But he's about the last person I'd want to tackle it.

Trump is the final piece China needs to surpass the U.S. as the preeminent world power.

American soldiers will be in lockstep with Russia when they march into Western Europe.

Putin just got the men, equipment, and money to do whatever he wants.

People believed:

  • Trump will give them more money in terms of tax breaks especially for lower income people
  • undocumented workers are coming to kill your family
  • the money that we sent to Ukraine came at the expense of helping you.
  • Prices will be drastically deflationary without negatives impacts

harris and the Dems should have spend more time saying how all of these ideas are bs. And Biden should have been addressing the problems sooner.

Maybe, maybe not. I can tell you this is the third time I’ve voted for trump, and I didn’t wring my hands like a beta male pussy, call people fascists, or look to leaving the country 4 years ago when the most inept candidate ever won the election and ran this economy into the ground.

The best thing about this thread is that it identifies the absolute biggest pussies on this website.

Good thing tariffs on China and Mexico will increase inflation, bring low skill minimum wage manufacturing jobs back to America that none of us want, further separate our economy from china’s (increasing the odds of a Taiwan strike) and increase political pressure for Mexico to resist being our manufacturing center… right? Tariffs will make homes affordable on a high school education again right?!

Wait until their grocery bill triples when there is no agricultural and meat processing labor left in the US. I guess Tyson chicken will be good since they now have child labor in Arkansas.

The tariff thing was promised last time and nothing happened except very few small ones that didn’t make a difference in the big picture at all.  I’ve been saying we need real trariffs on raw goods for years.  But no way our companies that get things so cheap will let it happen.

And almost unanimously economists favorite Harris's plan over Trump's. That his is almost guaranteed to be inflationary. How do you convince people who have no desire to learn or listen to experts? If you have the answer, the Democratic party would certainly love to know.

There was nowhere near the emphasis previously on tariffs being the fix all elixir. I'm hoping there are enough sycophants with half a brain to make sure he isn't actually able to do this to the extent that he wants to. Same goes with the mass deportation crap. Don't give me the line "we are only getting rid of criminals". We are doing the exact same thing right now now.

And, even if convictions secured and appeals exhausted, which was wishcasting in any event, see how much the one conviction and Trump's civil woes changed things.

I dunno man. The D play might be putting forth an economic populist candidate next go around that spits fire for sound bites. I think Trump continues to prove that traditional American politicians are dinosaurs.

Of course the left doesn't have the new media presence that the right has so that could fail even bigger than Kamala did.

The country is divided, clearly.  We still clearly have millions of racist, misogynistic, undereducated people who vote against their own interests.

with that as the underlying condition, the Democrats nominating Hillary in 2016 continues to haunt this country.

Whatif time:

Whatif the democrats encourage/allow Biden to run in 2016?  He wins easily, and likely is reelected in 2020.

You want to hear it?  I gave that POS Cannon the benefit of the doubt early on.  I was wrong.  There were delays in his other prosecutions too, some of which were run of the mill and others---like delaying the onset of prosecution on the Federal level---which were inexcusable.  That happens, but it doesn't mean that I, then or now, wish it had not happened that way.  But this country (minus some of the good people of Surly) elected a 34-time convicted felon last night.  I'm pretty confident it would have done so whether he'd been sentenced and was sitting in jail or had a pending appeal.  That's how broken and fucked this all is.  So now that we have that out of the way, you can stop @-ing me on judical delay topics, and I owe you a beer at some point as penance for my prior incorrectitude . . . fuck face.

The delays were inevitable, we never said otherwise.  Getting final convictions in four years, even five, was going to be tough.

Subsequent events have shown that even bringing the cases in 2021, at the earliest feasible opportunity, would not have changed this outcome.  Even had the Supreme Court expedited the immunity appeal/bypassed the DC Circuit, we'd still be where we are.  Even had they ruled that immunity exists only for core constitutional functions (which I think was inevitable), we'd still be where we are.

The real kicker is gonna be as the justice system swings from uncertain inaction to straight weaponization and extremely fast prosecutions of trumps "enemies of the people", all driven by the fomer delayers.

I was making a joke. I don't automatically think high stock market equals great economy. Also, paywalled.

But, the fact is, everyone (who was being honest) knew that inflation was inevitable after 2020, ours is at least low by other first world country standards, and most believe that Trump's plans will make it significantly worse.

But none of that matters, of course. Because people generally can't connect the dots like that. I don't blame people for feeling economic pain, blaming whoever is in power, and voting accordingly. It's what we do.

You know damn well the GOP will be touting the same market and same current inflation rate as soon as they're able to.
