🇺🇸 2024 Election Day 🇺🇸

i think the biggest issue (and there were several), was a lack of a primary. voters didn’t choose the democratic candidate. kamala was often viewed as an underperformer as vp.

and that issue came from biden, his handlers, the dnc, anyone that could have stepped in and said yo, you’re too old for another term. when there was plenty of time and opportunity to do exactly that.

it was too little, too late.

even so it’s still an utter shock.

probably moreso than 2016.

even trump supporters seemed not to believe in his chances and were ready to claim voter fraud or whatever the fuck.

you’ll hear no comments of voter fraud today after they spent months of diminishing and questioning the legitimacy of our electoral process.

This is total Monday Morning Quarterbacking but Walz wound up not helping much. We all fell in love with the guy but in retrospect, Beshear or Shapiro would've been better choices, I think.

I don’t think the VP pick mattered one bit.

So far for me, an NPR commentator said it best. It was a vibe or feeling election, but not like we thought. A lot of Trump voters who were polled expressed nothing more than a “feeling” that a Trump presidency would bring change. For the past two years they’ve felt the difficulty in buying homes, cars, groceries, and other items, and simply felt like a vote for the other party would be the best way to somehow change that, without any ability to articulate something they’ve heard from Trump that would specifically bring about that change. They don’t even understand the tariff argument. And some said they didn’t even believe the no-tax-tips thing.

The voters who swung for Trump simply looked at their own personal financial situation, felt a pinch over the past couple years, and felt like putting the other party in power could change that. For those voters, if it was the other way around and a Republican was the incumbent, they would’ve voted for the other guy.

Beshear or Shapiro wouldn’t have changed that.

I watched trumps celebration speech. I don't think he's the right guy, but it was noticeably different without all the negative parts - he kept the message positive which is somewhat new for him.

C'mon guys. Biden wasn't winning this thing with his approval rating, having to be in the public eye daily, and widely unpopular economic views.

Speaking as someone that was freaking out about the freak out, he is Andrew Johnson, his inability to guide the ship after the war was won in 2020 is inexcusable. Instead he maintained course.

Gen Z men also lied about who they were voting for, prepare for the incel invasion, only true hardship will end the bubble of "he is not that bad" "we survived last time"

Wait, there's going to be a next time?  The MAGA fascists have packed the Supreme Court with their stooges and have already essentially made the President a king.  Trump has already promised that his followers won't have to vote again.  He's absolutely going to stuff MAGA loyalists into every position in government while getting rid of anyone who isn't.  The Republicans own the House and Senate now, too.

Anyone thinking there will be any kind of free and fair POTUS election in 4 years is kidding themselves.

This is the kind of paranoia that causes the dems to throw everything against the wall (Russia!) and see what sticks. Throw in a bunch of fake prosecutions, hammer identity politics and sprinkle in some Nazi references and… voila…another Republican victory!

The democrats didn’t run to win. When they pulled Joe, they ran to not lose.

What a strategy.

A lot more Gen Z are further to the right than people realize. Dems either need to find a way to get the Rogans, Vons, and twitch bros to like them or create their own space for that because that’s absolutely where people are today.

Dems think traditional campaigning is what America wants and wants to go back to and America is repeatedly telling them that’s not what they want. Dems don’t listen.

there’s also an age problem with Dem leadership

Did I mention Biden?  Run Newsome next time and it will be the same results.  They need a candidate that is viewed as more central to have a chance to win.

When is the last time a candidate from California won a national election on behalf of the Dems? I heard Dems doing self analysis like yours this morning and they get it wrong they don't even come close to seeing it. Listen to Joe Scarborough and Bill Maher they have been giving dems the answers for years they just don't care to listen.

Some random White lady tried to warn the public (mostly tried to warn other Whites) about what she was seeing with her son because of YouTube and what he was watching. She wrote a really great article. It got a few thousand retweets. She was spot on though.

I believe this is the case, but I will never not think it's absolute insanity. It's just incomprehensible. But it's definitely true, and the lack of critical thinking is why so many people just absolutely tread water in life.

I have gen z sons and the number one thing to do with gen z men is get them off social media. it's toxic for them in ways we aren't really discussing. we talk about toxicity for girls with insta bullshit but it's just as bad for the boys. our number one civic duty as parents is to keep them out of an echo chamber.

At least on Saturday Quinn Ewers will show us he’s back to his A game and will lead Texas to the championship, right?  . . .  Right?

The Dems walked into Tuesday thinking they were gonna kick ass the same way Texas walked into DKR and got their shit pushed in by Georgia. All hype in the media doesn’t mean shit because Kamala Harris is no Barack Obama and Quinn Ewers is no Vince Young. The big rallies and consecutive completions stats don’t mean shit if your leader’s performance creates divisions from within and they can’t even take a few questions from the media when shit gets real.

That is why shock therapy is needed these people need to learn that treading water was a best case scenario for them, once economic collapse happens and it always happens during shock therapy that Musk is horny about, only then will they learn how good they had it. The slow decline is unmanageable.

Sean Hannity said that the republican party was going to have to pass immigration legislation after the 2008 loss to Obama in order to win again. Who knew that calling Mexicans criminals and rapist was an opening winning line back in those days. This morning no one knows where things will go or need to go with the Dems in order for them to win again.

Not sure how one could possibly underperform as a VP. It's pretty much a do nothing job. People generally just flat out didn't like Kamala.

Why do we have to cater to the opinions of people who are here illegally?  I live in a very red county and used to have a job in the AG industry. Obviously, tons of illegals at the work force. Many times illegals were pulled over and given speeding tickets and sent on their way despite no license/ registration/ legal ID. Now the ones that were arrested on violent charges were gone. Immigrants are needed in the work force for plenty of varying jobs. But it should still be done legally and by OUR process of obtaining a visa through a thorough background check.

If you really believe this, then hold the party you just elected accountable.  FYI, they won't do anything. They had a President and majorities in Congress in 2017 and kicked the can down the road.  You know why? Becuase they know people like you will continue to vote for them when they tell you it is a problem.

Good luck with that it’s a losing battle in the scheme of life. Trying to detach kids from new media and ways of consuming information in this modern digital world and the AI world moving forward is a lost cause. For every person like you that tries it there are countless more just letting their kids be iPad kids and growing up within that realm

How long have we been making NYT/CNN "Here's how Trump saying he'll shred the constitution is bad for Harris" jokes? If you're tuning into the "news" chances are you're either going to see him getting his dick sucked or you're going to see both sides/normalization of all the insanity.

I was terrified of the Michelle Obama speech in Michigan and it was not even that bad, women love toxic masculinity 45% don't lie.

Here's the problem I see with Gen Alpha, Gen Z, and Millennial men: there's no way to change them. They are driven by entitlement. The have been force-fed propaganda about how they're failures unless they have trad wives and nuclear family to rule over. This has fundamentally changed who they are deep down and what their values are.

Once the GOP accomplished that, the only thing they needed to do was make clear appeals to those values. The details never mattered. Trump is the guy who "fights" for those values, and everyone standing in his way is the enemy.

They don't know or care what Project 2025 is, and the few who did look into it said "that sounds great!"

Just something I found helpful/comforting via Rebecca Solnit:

They want you to feel powerless and to surrender and to let them trample everything and you are not going to let them. You are not giving up, and neither am I. The fact that we cannot save everything does not mean we cannot save anything and everything we can save is worth saving.  You may need to grieve or scream or take time off, but you have a role no matter what, and right now good friends and good principles are worth gathering in. Remember what you love. Remember what loves you. Remember in this tide of hate what love is.

You can be heartbroken or furious or both at once; you can scream in your car or on a cliff; you can also get up tomorrow and water the flowerpots and call someone who's upset and check your equipment for going onward. A lot of us are going to come under direct attack, and a lot of us are going to resist by building solidarity and sanctuary. Gather up your resources, the metaphysical ones that are heart and soul and care, as well as the practical ones.

People kept the faith in the dictatorships of South America in the 1970s and 1980s, in the East Bloc countries and the USSR, women are protesting right now in Iran and people there are writing poetry. There is no alternative to persevering, and that does not require you to feel good. You can keep walking whether it's sunny or raining. Take care of yourself and remember that taking care of something else is an important part of taking care of yourself, because you are interwoven with the ten trillion things in this single garment of destiny that has been stained and torn, but is still being woven and mended and washed.
