I’m not making this up look at the numbers.  The common people do not connect to the Democratic Party these days at all.

it's a messaging problem then because on a factual basis, policy by policy, neither party has a lock on every issue, but the democrats have practical policies and platforms that help the most. the amount of voting against one's self-interest is staggering. I mean DJT said it in broad daylight, he's here for the billionaire class and the common people vote for him.

in the end it's tribalism and religion that I think is driving most of his votes. both of those are deeply ingrained in the human psyche and he has galvanized it better than just about anyone can.

While I understand what y’all are saying. The message doesn’t come across that way to most people these days.  It is viewed as the Democratic Party is looking down at lower income, uneducated people and a lot of that was started by Trump riling everyone up but they fed into it exactly like he wanted and the comments on national media and here portray that view of that segment of people.

Ok, you win.

Remember when Trump was a democrat?

Maybe that's where his looking down on people started and thus initiated his base of, according to multiple outlets, uneducated white males ages 18 - 29.

Exit polling reflects just a slice of the tens of million of people who have voted, both before and on Election Day, and the preliminary results are subject to change through the course of the night as more people are surveyed.
National exit-poll results provide an important window into the thinking of the nation, but may not directly align with the seven battleground states expected to decide the presidential election.
Exit polls capture variations among turnout in various demographic groups, such as men vs. women voters or college-educated vs. non-college-educated voters, and can provide insights into how turnout has changed from past elections.
One key advantage of exit polls is all the people surveyed, by definition, are people who cast ballots in this election.

The shifts of Latinx and black males won this for Trump.  Along with white married women going back to their roots of voting GOP.  Single unmarried women -- the Reddit demographic -- will never vote GOP.  Too much angst, mental illness, and anger in that group.

The black vote didn't change, even if black men shifted.

If those numbers are accurate, Hispanic voters won this election for Trump.

There is a theory, which I subscribe to, that American Hispanics are for the most part going to get absorbed into “White” in a similar way that all the White ethnics did.  It takes time and honestly only continual immigration has meant it isn’t noticed. But it’s happening.

Trump's horseshit resonates because the underlying truth, "the liberal/DC elites think you're trash", is true. Look at how far beneath us (we Internet liberals) we consider basically this entire country. Look at our patronizing ideology and our refusal to LISTEN to what this nation is telling us over and over and over and over again. Look at our dogged determination to write it all as a story about our Noble Open-Minded Beliefs vs their craven hatred and bigotry and ignore a $7.75 minimum wage, unattainable housing, and unaffordable healthcare.

Maybe Trump didn't win because America is ready to don one giant Klan hood and lynch every minority. Maybe Trump won because his competition has nothing to offer America.

I've noticed this for a long time.  Certainly whether they check "hispanic" on a form somewhere, those whose families have been here a while have essentially assimilated into the larger population and reflect that same variety of ideas.  It's what those of us who live with hispanic/latin communities have been saying forever.  It isn't a monolithic culture with monolithic thoughts.

Everyone have a good day.  Been spending lots of time walking the younger daughter off the ledge, trying to convince her today is not a good day to stop being friends with everyone who you suspect might have voted for Trump.  Especially her brother in law.

She just let us know she signed up for some volunteer opportunities at the local Planned Parenthood.  Not a bad way to do some constructive cooling off.

"Common people" is a euphemism for the Trump voter. They're no more common than the 70 million who vote Dem.

The demographic in question here isn't unhappy because the Dems don't "get" them. They're unhappy with the Dems because they are not the only group being catered to. Ironically, these young un-college educated white males feel entitled to more than their share.

Hate radio nurtured this into resentment of ebil libs who want to do fancy things like protect the environment, tolerate those whom are different, and not recognize what we all know about the superiority of the white race. These insecure fuckwads have to believe in some terrible threat hiding in the people they insist are pussies and snowflakes. Thus: guns out the ass. Thus: easy appeals to racsism because your nigras are driving around in white neighborhoods and demanding not to be shot for speeding.

These very specific "common" people do not connect to the Democratic Party for good reason. They're intolerant dickheads without a clue.

They’ve made slight gains and I think the problem is that the working class collectively believes it’s not coming fast enough. Look, there’s a lot of truth to the statement that there’s barely any difference between the R’s and the D’s. I’ve been saying that for 17 years. But two things:

1. There are small differences and small differences have a way of translating into large outcomes for the exact people you’re talking about.

2. The rare few times those small differences have shown up to the benefit of the working class has certainly been when the Democrats were the policymakers.

Esto. It's not that we look down on them. It's that we don't baby them.  We couldn't possibly look down on them more than Trump does, but he also flatters them with the idea that they're the only people who society should value.

I really don't want to participate in this thread - or any others - very much.  BUT, I do think it's important to do something before he takes power: create a scorecard.  And I invite Trump supporters to contribute to this scorecard.  It is a list of things that Trump says he will do, or will not do.

For example:

Will not do:

1) Implement Project 2025 plans, because "he's never heard of it."

Will do:

1) Mass deportation, on day one, of all people here illegally, and many here legally.

2) Bring prices down on everything.

3) "End the war in Ukraine in 24 hours."

4) Protect women.

5) Leave abortion to the states.

There's plenty more.  Just stuff he actually said he will/won't do.  Then, let's keep score, shall we?  Building the scorecard today eliminates any fudging or revisionism later.  Those of you who voted for him, I presume that you expect him to follow through on his promises, right?  So this not only shouldn't bother you, it should excite you.  Finally, a leader who will follow through on his promises, no more bullshit.

So, add to this, then we'll make a master list and maybe sticky it somewhere.  To watch over the next four years.

I'm sure the world will be shocked when he's found to be lying. Again.

Biden offered progressive economic policies that have actually borne fruit and Harris was promising to continue them and expand upon them. Nobody gave a shit.

It's not me the Democrats are trying to convince. They've got me. If what you're saying is true and the Democrats actually do care about working America and actually do help them, why, with all their billions and experts, are they so bad at convincing them?

Is there an answer that doesn't involve us inflating our own sense of self and superiority?

I said at the beginning it's a messaging problem. republicans are literally anti union without apology and yet union members vote for Trump. it's nuts. Trump says mass deportations and owners of trade businesses employ illegal immigrants because they are the only ones willing to do the work, and yet those business owners vote for Trump. Trump literally says Israel should be able to do whatever it wants and muslim voters in Dearborn vote for Trump. The list can go on. It's just nuts.

I think I answered my own question, it has to be the online echo chamber. I don't know what they are getting in their feeds, I honestly don't know but it has to be that, nothing else makes any sense. Republicans here think this board is an echo chamber, well views are predominately pro-democrats that's true but the variety of news sources on this board make it decidedly not an echo chamber of news and supposed facts. the online stream that some have, however, is an echo chamber of news and supposed facts. I think that is the fundamental problem. It has to be, there is no other logical explanation.

The answer to that question is a combination of oligarch propaganda that favors Republicans (both MSM and social media), shitty Dem messaging (they need to hire some fucking marketing majors and not just policy dorks), and yes, lots of stupid voters.

My personal favorite is the whole "repeal obamacare" thing. The main reason that plans on the public market ended up being so expensive is because of all the capitulations that Obama's team had to make to the R's to get the thing passed, most notably the lack of a public option "because socialism." By not being willing to share the risk amongst all US citizens, R's ensured that those who needed coverage the most would be doomed to continue to pay rates set by the insurers, who are fucking FOR PROFIT companies.

Oh the middle class gave a shit, and was vehemently against the working class succeeding.

I don't disagree obviously, but as to the first sentence, I mean, after 40 years of no gains at all, seeing some light at the end of the tunnel has to be better than the darkness that Turnip is offering.

Just go look how the votes breakdown by income.

My oldest sent me this text along with a few others: “It is that bad it shows every girl everywhere that she can’t be successful in the face of a rapist felon man.”

My only response is that they still vote for him. It’s crazy.

If I had a genie that gave me one policy wish, it would be single payer healthcare, no questions asked.
