For example, last time Trump was in office, Stephen Miller was pushing a program to challenge the citizenship of Americans born in border hospitals in the 30s-40s.  The reasoning was "well, records were sketchy back then, and hospital birth certificates can't be trusted."  Cool.  That applies to....my father.  Who was born in a border hospital, and the only proof of that is his hospital birth certificate.

To be clear, Stephen Miller wants to deport my US citizen father, because he doesn't think my dad can prove he's American enough.  Yeah, y'all can burn in hell.

So another example, friend of mine who is currently filling up our group chat with Trump gloat was talking about an guy he works with who is from India and immigrated here in the 90's giving everyone fist bumps and high fives this morning and was shocked when I said "I hope he can prove he is here legally and all his papers are in order, cuz they are coming for everyone soon"

you forgot to explain how to not look down on racists when they are doing and supporting racist things.    I think you’re asking us  to be more tolerant of racists and not look down on them, but I’m not sure exactly how to do that.   “Deport all the Haitians, even the US citizens?……Lord knows Cletus, I’m not trying to be negative here, but some people are saying it would be better not to deport US citizens who completed all the requirements of immigration.   Yes, I know they’re black…”

More information would be appreciated.

lol they are not racist.  But keep going with that narrative and talking down to them and it will be another loss in four years.  There’s a serious disconnect between the working class and the democratic party right now. The numbers say as much. How do you fix it?  Idk but putting this blanket narrative about them out there non stop is definitely not going to help.

First of all, the states have the most control over elections. And term limits are a constitutional amendment.

There's a Constitutional amendment in effect right now that says Trump is disqualified from the office. Fat load of good that did us.

The list goes on and on.

Democrats need to get better at politics. It's really that simple.

Conversely, it's not going to be easy for Republicans to replace Donald Trump. He has turned out to be much more politically gifted than I expected.

I've always given him credit for that. I said it earlier, but he's the perfect candidate for our current social media/podcast/weaponized propaganda information sphere. He's a shameless self-promoter, he understands that there's no such thing as bad press, and he floods the zone like no other. All things great to attract the reality show/professional wrestling audience that makes up a sizeable chunk of our electorate.

I think Harris realizes this now.  She knows how important concession speeches are to Americans (kind of like the SOTU rebuttal).  Her speech will be cited and replayed for years.  Smartly, she is taking some extra time today to write a really great speech.  She will be a force to reckon with next round.

His only stated economic policies are tariffs and deportation. We’re also due for significant federal spending cuts or at least a normal recession so… stagflation with Trump behind the wheel? Should be fun…

The GOP candidate for governor in NC (the self proclaimed Black Nazi who wanted to bring back slavery and take votes from women) won 40% of the vote. 40%!!! This election isn’t about sober policy choices. Something is rotten in this country

Everyone have a good day.  Been spending lots of time walking the younger daughter off the ledge, trying to convince her today is not a good day to stop being friends with everyone who you suspect might have voted for Trump.  Especially her brother in law.

She just let us know she signed up for some volunteer opportunities at the local Planned Parenthood.  Not a bad way to do some constructive cooling off.

I suggested to my husband we find some hobbies and take some classes and volunteer more in our community like the food pantry or something. Take our minds off it, give back to the community, and remind ourselves how good we do have it even if everything looks bleak right now

Not being viewed as being looked down on…. It’s really that simple and Trump plays that up perfectly to an uneducated working class while the other side does the opposite and comes across as disingenuous. Just look at the comments above, it’s not hard to figure out.  Like I said I don’t have all the answers but this is an issue right now.

actually a lot of them are. my dad has blamed blacks, illegals, queers... especially lesbians in the military, for his failings. and he's a routine, normal, old white guy. the -isms are on the rise, it's really hard to dispute that fact. what do we do about it? I dunno. If I did I would be in office paid big bucks to run campaigns.

Grievance. Pure and simple. They are angry at the world and they don’t know or care to understand why.

That’s not the majority though and that’s part of the problem!  Everyone is literally labeling them because of the loud minority portion and then calling anyone who votes republican names ect.  That’s part of the problem.  I think it’s dumb as shit to vote for Trump because I think he’s a horrible person but a lot of these people feel more insulted by the Democratic Party because of exactly what you and other say about them non stop these days and in the media.

this one guts me like Bush's reelection in 2004. But this is far more terrifying and uncertain given the nature of the madman in power.

you obviously don't read my posts. I've got 20 years of avoiding name calling and being disrespectful. the only people I go after are those that come after me. Racism, queer-hate, and misogyny are a major problem in this country. I agree not everyone is a blantant -ism monger, but it can be ok to not abide with awful behavior and statements and also speak more respectfully to the common folk.

the reality is the poor and middle class need a younger Joe Biden, a white old but not too old guy that wants to get shit done for them.  Trump isn't that guy.

Good Lord, we have learned nothing. The Constitution will be meaningless when it suits the people with enough power to make it so.

The idea that he will EVER give up power willingly is absurd. He didn’t last time, and he won’t do it this time.

Who is going to stop him from fashioning a crown? The New York Times? Congress? The Army?

Bull. Shit.  I live in a very red area.  My buddies and I frequent a bar there.  Over the last few years, overhearing people dropping the hard "r" N word is becoming commonplace.  There's no shame in it anymore.  Trump gives them that permission.

They're racist as fuck.

The knowledge that seeking the favor of another
Means the murder of self.
This is the resolution
The end of all progress
The death of evolution
It bleeds all life away.
Silence speeds the path to the streams of solace that run so few and narrow.
Brooks that babble the sounds of torture.
Sounds of torture
You will one day rise
To flood the banks of the chosen.
This is the art of ruin.
This is the resolution
The end of all progress
The death of evolution
It bleeds all life away.
It bleeds all life away.
I will show you all that I have mastered
Fear.
Pain.
Hatred.
Power.

It’s fun to self-flagellate here and agonize over whether too many feelings are hurt I guess.  It is the only thing the center-left can do.  It’s notable that the party that won is completely devoid of introspection or empathy.  Can we stop pretending like this was some kind of policy election or adjudication of democratic economic policies.

The winning candidate provided stream of conscience gibberish that revolved entirely around petty personal beefs and conspiratorial vibes. One could not be more calculating with appeal to the stupid and angry among us, and it landed precisely with that segment of the population.  I am sorry that it is true,  but it is: Trump supporters are stupid or bad, there isn’t another choice.

The messaging problem is precisely a failure among the center-left to construct a compelling narrative of villains and idiots and to convince people they they were neither idiots or evil.  We have an entire right-wing hate machine dedicated to rabidly tearing down democratic leaders (small-d) and attacking our democratic system; and we have a centrist professional media establishment dedicated to doing the same thing but coolly and analytically.

Yep. Fire with fire. Should’ve flooded the zone with scary shit.

Probably still would not have worked, though.
