I am not glad Kamala lost. It's unforgivable what Bibi was willing to do to influence this election. But at a certain point I just want the killing to stop.

Not yet. First I want Bibi to die.

There's a small part of me that has hope, likely misguided, that he's now vindicated in his mind about the 2020 election with the size of this victory and potentially the popular vote.  And that his grievances of being a victim are satisfied.  Then the question becomes what does he want the most?

It's always most about money and power and now he has those two in ways even he could have never dreamed of since he's clearly of the mindset to using the office to enrich himself.  Then there was going to prison.  That problem is solved.  Then I think it becomes a personality consideration.  He likes to be both the victim and the villain.  But what if he's too tired to be the villain now and doesn't have a whole lot of standing to be the victim anymore.  Is he docile and just plays golf and counts his money all day?  He doesn't care about legislation.  Will he rebuff the Millers of the world, telling him there's no reason to make people mad since he's got everything he's ever wanted?

I don't really believe anything I've just wrote honestly.  But maybe he's too lazy to govern or take any slight bit of backlash anymore.  He's transactional.  Who's to say he won't tell the Project 2025 guy or Musk to go fuck off.  After all, it's more powerful to his ego to tell guys like that to fuck off than deport people or whatever else.

But even if that reality comes to pass, it will birth a number of American super-oligarchs by blind eye so it wouldn't be all good.

Occam's razor suggests he's going to find something to be the victim of and then again after that.  It'll probably be on day 1 at his inauguration size.

If he's a good or non-destructive president, then great.  I'll take it.

It's an especially difficult thing to envision since we already had Trump as president and democracy did not, in fact, die. Or even mildly suffer.

Maybe, when Trump finally dies, the Democrats can be issues-focused?

Dare to dream.

If in fact that all Bibi was aiming for by killing all those civilians was to get Trump elected and now he will stop now that Trump has won well...good for all those people who would have died if Kamala won I guess.

I don’t read it as “he will stop now” … unless I’m missing something, Trump just wants bibi to wrap up the genociding by January 20. If anything, I’d expect an increase in violence so Israel can have a “stable” situation sorted by late January. Then in exchange for israel getting to freely genocide without the threat of the US cutting military aid (the path Biden was finally on as he attempted to thread his political needle), Trump gets to pretend to be a tough guy and “make” israel and Hamas agree to a cease fire. I don’t think it actually amounts to fewer dead people. Hopefully I’m wrong!

You're really living up to your name today. Democracy suffered a shitload under his first term and you know it did.

ETA: you really shouldn't be gloating today, given that we've pretty conclusively disproven the progressive left's theory of electoral politics. Biden prioritized wages and employment over inflation and enacted the largest domestic spending package in decades, which prioritized projects and a lot of blue collar jobs in rural areas. And it was a complete fucking failure in terms of gaining electoral support from workers.  Congratulations, you're gloating that everyone has just learned that neoliberal economics is the only electorally viable option.

90% of Americans aren't paying attention because they're too exhausted trying to eke out a living or they're too distracted by stupid bullshit. Either way, we're in Idiocracy.

My daughter is never coming back to Texas.  And likely never coming back to the United States, both for political and personal reasons.  She's a woman, and there are other things about her personal life that make her a target of Christian Nationalists.  My son isn't super keen on returning either.

You know, in case any of y'all were wondering whether it's personal.  My family had a pretty good run in the US.  Seems it will be coming to an end.

We also need a robust guest worker program that allows migrant workers to be vetted and to legally work here.  Many would be happy to work here seasonally and then return home if they could do so without hassle.  Like the old bracero program.

You mean like the one that George W Bush tried to get passed, but that the religious right watered down and then was defeated?  You mean like that Guest Worker program?

If there's one thing that we take away from all this, can it please be to never, ever care about political rally crowd size again? They're not the voters you're trying to attract. Normal people do not go to political rallies. The lunatics from your base following your every move go to political rallies.

I will always think he is a horrible, broken, shitty human.  But someone like that can be capable of doing good things, whether accidentally or on purpose, I don't much care.

And don't get me wrong, I have NO hope that he will do much of anything good, and even a few small things that may be good will be vastly outweighed by the pain and suffering he will cause.  But if he does X thing that's good, I'm more than happy to acknowledge it.  I'm sure there are some serial killers out there who are really nice neighbors and are considerate and don't park their car in the street to block their neighbor's driveway and such.  That's nice.  It doesn't make up for the fact that he's a serial killer, but at least he's a decent neighbor.

The GOP has spent the better part of a decade dehumanizing anyone who doesn't toe the line. Crooked Hillary, Let's Go Brandon, Lyin' Kamala ... these came not from local activist agitators but direct from the mouth (er, fingertips) of the guy you just put in office.

So kindly fuck off with your "democrats are the mean ones." Even if we cowtowed ALL THE WAY OVER and put the backs of our heads on the pavement, you assholes would find something else to fight about. Because you aren't negotiating in good faith basically ever. Every accusation is an admission; the soul of the GOP can't comprehend legitmate compromise, empathy, a desire to actually help folks who might disagree with them, and so they just assume everyone else feels the same way. He's not going to reach across the aisle because he doesn't know how, and he doesn't care to learn. HIs goal isn't compromise, his goal isn't noble, his goal isn't helping those less fortunate. I don't particularly know what his goal IS, other than chaos and personal enrichment, but along the way he's putting people in positions of power with very clear goals that will serve to hurt people.

Fuck you and your both-sides bullshit. It's never in good faith, and it never has been.

I assume that it won’t be an 8 year process to approve a yearly vaccine that’s designed to combat the handful of predominant strains in the given year.

Can I ask, what does it mean for DJT to do a “good” job.  Because if we define it as successfully doing most of the things he says he wants to do, I will be super unhappy.

On the other hand, he is sui generis as a candidate in that even his supporters often say he won’t ever do the things he talks about all the time.  So maybe that is what a “good” job looks like.

All his supporters really want him to do is feed the hate machine and fertilize their grievances, and I think he will do a good job at that.

Colin Allred disparaged all transgender girls when he put an ad out that said,  “So let me be clear. I don’t want boys playing girls’ sports."

You are only outraged with a R says stuff like that.

Allred’s ad has sparked outrage from LGBTQ+ activists. Erin Reed, an award-winning transgender journalist, posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Democratic candidate Colin Allred becomes the first Democratic candidate to capitulate to anti-trans ads and jump into targeting trans people as a result of anti-trans advertisements. Very shortsighted and a stinging betrayal for his potential future LGBTQ constituents.”

Ari Drennen, LGBTQ program director at Media Matters for America, was equally frustrated, sarcastically writing, “So glad that this is what he’s lighting all that money on fire for.” She added, “The trans folks I know (me included!) are very, very nervous that, given the pressure they are under, Dems will go the way of [Britain’s] Labour [Party] on trans rights. I do not think that will happen, but it feels like lots of campaign reporters are trying to manifest that outcome right now.”

Honest answer: your guess is as good as mine. I’m not a doctor but I believe the flu shot is dead flu strains that the CDC believes will be the predominant strains based on cases in Australia or southern hemisphere countries. These dead strains are added to the base vaccine and administered accordingly.

Again, no idea exactly. But we will find out soon enough and that’s exciting.

I think we agree on a lot of points.  Trump is just the symptom here.  Things will be mostly fine for the next 75 years imo then get bad, fast.  But the next 4-8 years won’t have us on the verge of a civil war.
