How the election went at my house-

My wife attacked her about voting for Trump(they live in Zona) and how now our Type 1 diabetic daughter's life may be in jeopardy.

Unfortunately, the populace, as a whole, doesn’t give a shit about her healthcare. As a type 1, I can empathize with her.

Kamala wanted to do something about it. But alas…

They voted for a man who made fun of people with visible health problems, voted for a man who said police should smash the head of presumed until innocent arrestees on police cars, a man who only the stupidest human beings on earth would be able not to tell was a pathological liar and narcissist, a president who stole national security documents - and then lied about it and tried to hide them after he stole them, and a man who swore to take revenge on the news, political opponents, and anyone who opposed him.

You have the fucking gaul to question calling those people ‘stupid’ under those absolutely true and unquestioned facts

The fabric is coming apart because those fucking idiots are too stupid to tell that the fabric is coming apart, and support the least honorable or stable or competent or intelligent president in our history.

You’re pissed off, and with good reason. But it’s not my fault. So back the fuck off.

all kidding aside about his bat shit craziness, this is something I feel has been long overdue and something that's always puzzled me why the left didn't try to champion making food healthier i.e. removing unnecessary chemicals and shit from our food here. Lots of countries already ban dyes, HFCS, certain types of seed oils.  Yes, there are products here that cater to this but they often come at a large markup whereas you go over to Europe and the cheap store brand stuff can conform to those standards. It's why I do a lot of my shopping at Aldi because they do a good job on a lot of there branded products with this.

I do think it's funny that if you were to draw a Venn diagram of the maga folks now spouting Make America Healthly Again and the other circle being the right wingers losing their shit when Mayor Bloomberg wanted to limit the sale of large sodas in NY a decade ago as some huge affront to their freedom, it would be one giant circle.

Well long term interest rates are about to go way up. Cash is going to be hard to come by. Inflation is going to spike. All of this is pretty much baked in to the economic cycle. And Elon is going to throw austerity in like gas on a fire. And Miller is going to put us in a critical labor shortage to boot. glad the shit is going to land right in trump’s lap.

I plan on picking up some trumptard’s lake house on the cheap in about 24 months

We send our kids on 8th grade field trips to go look at giant statutes of and monuments to men who raped their slaves. Open my profile pic to see a pic of Bubba (a rapist/sexual predator himself) standing in front of modern slaves to pump up his tough-on-crime credentials.

Tons of family in UK and been to all those places.

My daughter is in the UK.  She is well aware that it is not paradise.  Shit, the UK has a shitton of issues.  But....she is safer there.  She is not actively targeted as an enemy because of her relationship status.  If she has an at-risk pregnancy, she can get care for it no questions asked.  Her concerns about an active shooter are about zero.

At the end of the day, people mostly want to be left alone, to be able to take care of themselves/get the basic help they need, and to feel reasonably safe from external danger.

The US is not one of those places right now.  Texas especially.

That’s fair. But I put a lot in there.

I take 4 shots a day of two types of insulin. High blood pressure and high cholesterol pills. And that’s before the annual flu shot, a couple shingles shots, covid boosters.

I’m a believer in modern medicine. Would be dead decades ago if I wasn’t.

I do eat pretty healthy. I cook quite a bit.

It will be interesting to learn JFK Jr’s take on things. I look forward to his roadkill recipes and insights on seafood skull autopsies.

A few thoughts.

The Dems "Big Tent" gives them a broad and diverse voting base, but it's clear that loudly progressing the platform of every demographic within that base does not resonate with those outside the tent. I thought it was absurd that the only ads Ted Cruz ran were about trans bullshit and "men playing in women's sports". I thought, "there's no way people really give a shit about this, right?" But boy was I wrong. They polled prospective voters and those voters said "we're tired of this shit." They knew what they were doing, and it worked. Identity Politics is a losing game. The path forward to protect and expand the rights for marginalized groups will probably require first obtaining a political mandate by gaining the public's trust on handling the meat-and-potatoes issues that do resonate with the broader electorate, and then passing legislation enshrining those rights for marginalized groups, even if the general public isn't necessarily comfortable with it. Dems need to stick to the meat and potatoes issues that resonate with voters and tune out the social issues that give middle America the ick. Jobs, economy, diplomacy. It sucks, but it's true.

My very real concerns about Trump's legislative and personal-retribution agenda are somewhat mitigated by the fact that he's too fucking lazy to do any real work, although spite is a great motivator. My concerns is who will be the person(s) setting and executing the legislative agenda. Donald Trump is not a fascist because of his political philosophy. Donald Trump has no philosophy. He's a political nihilist. (I mean, say what you will about the tenets of national socialism. At least it's an ethos) He will support anything that he believes is popular and will get people to vote for him. He's the very definition of a puppet. The question then becomes, who is he going to let put their hand up his ass and make him dance?

But he is a fascist in the sense that he believes the presidency gives him absolute authority. And his stacking of the Supreme Court and their ruling that the executive office is immune to prosecution only reaffirms that belief. How motivated will be to go after his enemies, and what will that look like? I truly don't know.

I'm also very nervous about diplomacy. This man is so unstable. It's terrifying that he could literally order a nuclear attack at any time. Also, hey Ukraine - you're fucked. You should probably start walking west if you live there.

As a straight white man, I try to reflect upon, appreciate and understand the incredible privilege with which I've been blessed. My life wasn't dramatically impacted by the first Trump presidency. And if my daughter were to need access to exercise what I believe is her right to get an abortion, we have the means to facilitate that. But I do feel for marginalized groups that will be affected by those setting the legislative agenda. Buckle up buttercup. It's gonna be a terrible fucking ride. It'll be like when those people boarded an architectural boat tour in Chicago on August 8th 2004 only to have Dave Matthews Band's tour bus dump 800 pounds of human waste all over them as the bus passed over the Kinzie Street bridge.

Trump isn't "selling" you anything. He really is a misogynist. He really is a racist. These are all things that have long been in his history. He is simply letting the freak flag fly and people can feel his authenticity. And this is where people go very wrong. The very large number of xenophobic racists in this country that love what he says. Then there are the people that just voted because "the economy was better under Trump". Blindly.

Truth is we are going to have to hit rock bottom before people finally repudiate this movement. Then the pendulum will finally swing the other way. The question is how much will we have lost by then?

You ever think maybe your constant hysterics contributed to her desire to live overseas?  Assuming you’re like this in real life?  You need help.  Life is good.  Your team has taken a loss.  Dust yourself off and get back to it. Politics will swing back. They always do.   We live in about the safest and most prosperous time in history.  Being born healthy in this country = privilege.

Who gives a fuck.  If that is your problem, ban that.  But let women control their bodies.  And, you know, when they have life-threatening complications that have to be treated by abortion, don't threaten the dr. with prison time.  That doesn't seem like too much to ask....yet our leaders are fighting against that tooth and nail.

This is our new reality. People with no real stake in terrible decisions making light of it and judging. Garbage humans will be emboldened. They crawled out of the cracks and have been dunking on anything they can all day with their twisted drivel. Not civil Americans, no real idea of solutions to the complex issues, just schoolyard insults.

I can close CR and live. I will not be impacted by anything this hate filled regime will levy. I am one of them, well off, white male with boys that will live on. I chose to break because of people like this cocksucker. 0 human decency. When things go sideways, and they will, I will be standing next to you and you won't know I am a wolf in sheep's clothing. The idea that folks will let civility and the American dream go quietly into the night is naive.

I hate rude behavior in a man, won't tolerate it.

Trump killed shame. As evidenced in this board, people no longer feel shame about expressing things or behaving in a manner that puts the worst of human behavior on display.  It’s all about “I’ve got mine and fuck everyone else”.  In essence, he has given people license to be their shitty selves and kind of be proud of it.
Roger Stone said it last night when asked about Trump’s appeal. His response was that Americans view Trump as being just like them.  I believe it.

From 2017 for those who forgot:

CNN - North Korean leader Kim Jong Un had some choice words for US President Donald Trump Friday, accusing the American leader of "mentally deranged behavior."

But it was Kim's use of the term "dotard," that has set the internet alight. While not widely used today, the insult is centuries old, appearing in medieval literature from the ninth century.

Searches for the term have spiked in the wake of Kim's address, according to dictionary Merriam-Webster, which defines the term as referring to "a state or period of senile decay marked by decline of mental poise."
