Trump’s America

Yep, and we’ve actually done this before.  Back in the 1990s a kid tending his goats got shot by a Marine doing anti-drug surveillance.  He was out with a rifle along the river to keep dogs and coyotes away and got blasted by a Marine he never knew was there.

And that’s not to blast the Marines. They didn’t belong there.  Combat units should not be deployed on American soil if there’s not combat.

I remember this very well.

100%, and to be clear I'm in agreement with @956 Worldwide . Not sure if that was clear before. I'm a Navy brat who's been around the military most of my life, and I think most people would be shocked at the level of disdain with which people like Trump and others are held in the military.

Re: recruiting, that's one of the first things I thought of. Gonna make it hard for recruiters to recruit if the sales pitch is "Hopefully you won't be one of those sent to the border, man the detainment camps, or sent to round up immigrants".

Sure, but that presupposes there won't eventually be an effort to start recruiting the exact types who would see heading down to the border to round up and detain brown immigrants as a positive. Trump created the "Space Force," after all, so I could see him making some similar executive order to carve out a "Border Force" from the Army/Marines to do just that.

I believe he means that MSNBC is about to happily just report the part line for Trump.

Trump will do anything if you are nice to him and say good things about him. I don't think they're gonna turn into Newsmax or anything, but maybe there's some strategy here. We know he watches Morning Joe. As dumb as it sounds, it could have an effect.

The emergency powers granted to the President are scary broad in that there are basically no rules about what defines an emergency. Sleep well, children

And, when people do have a problem with anything Trump does, who exactly are they going to take it to?

They control everything.  All three branches, the DoJ, and soon enough the military.

They're going to do whatever they want.

Because it takes a much longer time span than I think most people realize. Yes, he can make ot nominally shittier short term, but as @wood and @956 Worldwide and @InkaUtexas will tell you, there is also a shitload of inertia. It takes a long time to turn an aircraft carrier.

And the military doesn't take kindly to being told how to do things.

damn if there were only examples of history to show us how well that worked out.

Whats funny is these chuckle dicks want to deport the people we would need in time of emergency. You know the ones who can grow food, etc.

But, there is 1 group I see on my professional linkedin who are eating this shit up. Sadly, and no offense to the few we have on here, are the Marines.

Don't worry.  The Supreme Court will reign them in.

And thereby making everything an official act as well.

It gives you more power AND immune to all laws? What could go wrong?

I want to say that I am not a real big fan of the proposed tax cuts on tips. While that would add around 900-1100 to my bank account 11 months out of the year (I take one month and head off for a vacation as far away from Americans as I can get), it is a really unsound tax policy to undertake. This money is not going to go to savings for most of the people receiving this tax break. It is a farce and hopefully someone in Congress realizes that the math on this is going to hurt more Americans than it will help. I suppose the hurt part is part and parcel with Trump’s America though.

Take that extra money. It’s a drop in the well in terms of adding to the deficit. Plus giving tax breaks to the working and middle class has a multiplier effect on the economy. We want that money spent

That will just be a drop in the bucket verses every CEO’s bonus now being labeled a tip. The Supreme Court already held this year that a public official can take a “tip” and thus it’s not violative state of anti bribery statutes.

Basically all Americans are about to know what it's felt like to be non white in America. The systems are there to oppress you, not to help you, and you have virtually zero recourse for being oppressed.

I’d like to hear from white people on the plausibility of this theory. Some believe Maga voter  was animated by how much media attention was given to Kamala’s ability to galvanize support early on from various ethnicities and interest groups. I’m told that watching White women for Kamala, Latinos of Kamala, White dudes for Kamala, Black men for Kamala, Gays for Kamala, Republicans for Kamala, Evangelicals for Kamala…scared the crap out of Maga, and they turned out big time.

Thoughts?

using the military as a police force in a non emergency scenario is a horrible horrible idea

Now, imagine using a politicized military police force in non-emergency scenarios, and it's even worse. The purge of generals is coming. Look up "warrior boards" or just read this: https://www.surlyhorns.com/board/topic/4800-the-gqp-trumpist-death-cult/?do=findComment&comment=6654253

I forgot all about that. That's even better than whatever Article Trump thinks he can use to wield plenary power.

You can easily imagine Stephen Miller leaning to Trump's ear and taking a long sniff of the earwax with orgasmic delight. "Mr. President, sir, there's something interesting you might like to know."

Miller relishes the smell of the full diaper as he leaves the intoxication of ear wax.

It was never for the middle class or poor. The policy was always a Trojan horse by republicans to get in/retain power and pass tax cuts for the rich. That’s who republicans serve. They can’t be for the rich and middle class, one takes from the other. But if I toss you a cookie, maybe you won’t care that I’m taking the whole damn box.

Add it to the list of reasons why people were wrong to vote for Trump.

I'm unsure whether tax free tips will come to fruition or not. Honesty Trump doesn't have to fulfill any promise since his election days are over. I assume it wouldn't be a standalone change because 1, those rarely happen, and 2, since Dems would love this change, it will also be tied to tax relief of the rich.

If it is enacted, I would expect it would be tied to extremely low overall income. Do we really need to allow the vegas bottle service waitress or OF models to get their $200K tax free?
